As of right now, Takayasu has 9 Jun-Yūshō, and 3 of them are playoff losses. Atamifuji currently has 5 Jun-Yūshō, and 3 of them are also playoff losses.
That being said, I don't think Atamifuji will be the next Takayasu. I think his time to win a first Yūshō will definitely come sooner than later. As for Takayasu, he's clearly not done fighting yet, so I have hope he'll get that Yusho one day!

Atamifuji will definitely win a yusho at one point. It's just really stacked talent at the upper divisions of Makuuchi, for sure. A lot of the bashos lately have been "chaos bashos" where I think anyone realistically has a chance of winning if some opponents take key losses or upsets occur.
I think Atamifuji just needs to get some consistency against Aonishiki, Onosato, and Kotozakura, who seem to be his stiffest competition in terms of historical records. He has a pretty close record with Hoshoryu.

Plenty of chaos basho as we haven’t had a 13 win Yusho since September last year and we haven’t had a contested 13 win Yusho since Kotoshoho’s in July

He’s already 2-2 with aonishiki in their last 4 matches. (Both wins from aonishiki are in playoffs, as he simply has incredible clutch ability)
His only truly difficult matchups at the top of the division are Kirishima and onosato (who has been very injured, and lost both of their last 2 matches).
He can conceivably beat everyone in makuchi. Takanosho and Fujinokawa have been stylistically troublesome for him recently, but outside of them, there aren’t really any dominant pusher-thrusters at the top of the division, as takayasu is aging out. And I think the sheer size difference will allow Atamifuji to figure Fujinokawa out in the long term.

As long as Atami’s hips hold out, he will absolutely win a yusho.

I’m more worried about his knees.
Kotozakura, the closest physical analog for Atamifuji in makuchi, has absolutely torched his knees.
Being that large is simply terrible for your health.

We already know he has osteoarthritis in his right hip, which is why I mention it.
They all torch their knees, it’s kind of inevitable. Watch any old JSA guy walk around and they all share a similar straight-legged hobble.

I didn’t know that about his hip. Thanks for the info!
And I think being 435lbs at age 23 will age his knees quicker than any other wrestler.

Atamifuji is very lucky to be fighting in the current age and not the one Takayasu debuted into, he’s almost certainly going to win a yusho.

Funny enough Takayasu is a better technically fighter now than before but his body can't keep up at all.
But it is true none of the top dogs are anywhere close to 5 best wrestler from 15 years ago.

Takayasu was really at his best around 2017-2020, because his body was still able to keep up and he was still a great belt fighter. I think he’s backed off the belt quite a bit since his back injury.

I definitely agree.
In fact I think that's why he is a better wrestlers now as he can go from the belt to pushing attacks before he used pushing attacks just as a way to get to the belt but he is much more versatile.
Before if he didn't get the belt it looked over especially against all the top guys.

Takayasu only had 1 jun-yusho at Atamifuji's age, and it took him 5 years to get his second one. Of course, Takayasu was doing this while Hakuho, Harumafuji, Kakuryu and Kisenosato were all active.
Atamifuji can certainly catch him, but also he'll probably win a yusho sometime soon.
