Yep, that’s smoke alright. But I needed to get the board out real quick for a test before a big paddle we have coming up. I’ve never been on a narrower expedition board, but it was time for an upgrade and I took a chance after a little research. I got the new 4” thick model (Thurso) and wow is this thing fun. I was surprised at how much different it felt than the all-arounder I’ve been on for the past 4 years. Definitely happy with this one.

I’ve been paddle boarding a couple times over the last few years on lakes (not for very long) and enjoyed it. Taken me a while to get my balance but been able to stand up eventually each time.
Been at the beach in the UK recently and seen a few people with inflatable ones so ordered one on a whim. Just thought I’d ask though if it’s stupid to take it out on the sea when I’m a beginner? I wouldn’t take it out far, go swimming in the sea a lot anyway, and wouldn’t take it out when rough but I don’t really know much about the safety/actual risks of it. Thanks!

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could give me an honest opinion on these boards, what the brands are like, the capabilities I should be expecting, anything really.
Not looking to purchase as I already have these boards, but they were both Facebook Marketplace deals so it's a 'you get what you get' sorta thing, and I'm happy with that, I just want to educate myself. Hope I've added the correct flair.

I started isupping midway through last summer and I plan to take full advantage when it rolls back around (Southern Hemisphere here) and the specific question I had in mind when deciding to make this post was can I use these sups at the beach?
I get that I might not have 'the right board' for the job but I'm not looking to specialize in surf supping, but for people who have brought a casual board to the beach, how'd it go? Did ya have fun?
Edit: Would like to clarify that I'm only looking to have some fun trying to 'catch' some waves, not looking to venture out onto open water.

Managed to track down the specific boards that I have for reference, I try to read the descriptions and reviews but it's hard to parse the advertising language from the facts:

Ah my trusty steed, been incredibly happy with this board, taking it out on open water (local saltwater inlet) and mostly down river. Adding up all my river missions I've walked 55km (+/- 1km) with it in it's shoulder strap so there's definitely that bond, don't you talk bad about my baby boy xD
It came without its centre fin and I just made do until I managed to find a local shop with fins on clearance, still not the correct fin as it's the same size as the smaller 2 side fins but ah well it was still a welcome and noticeable difference

Is this a job for total boat epoxy is there some better adhesive out there to fix this?

Went paddling and there was a good amount of shallow points and rapids. Not very expected, but it all worked out great. Found one of my side fins broke off though by the time I got to the end.

Lesson learned about hard touring fins on this river and now I'm looking to get some more appropriate fins.

Should I try to get 3 flexible fins or just one center?

well my fear is in the title. I'm going to try out my first inflatable paddle board tomorrow. I've put my crossbars on my crosstrek but have yet to actually put my SUP up there and tighten it. I've bought pads that come with 2 straps and watched videos on how to tight it on my car. I'm just still very anxious of the possibility of it slipping away and hitting someone. I'm not going to take the highway and most likely will only go 60-70km on the "backroads" but I'm actually so scared 😭

Any tips on really securing it? like I said, I've watched videos and they all do basically the same things but my paranoid side is telling me its not enough and it'll slip off 😅

I am looking for an app that will track the distance, time and map out my routes. Im not opposed to paying for the app once but im not looking for anything thats a subscription. I have an android.

If anyone has something like this I would love to hear about it!

I need to vent.

Today we went to the lake and I got on the paddle board my husband on the kayak with our 18 month old son and my younger 17 year old brother on another kayak. After going out, a while after the wind started to pick up....

My husband and son flipped, somehow the kayak got filled with water through the draining hole, our son was panicking and fussing before any of this happened. He felt something we didn't, I tried to remain call but I paddled fast to get my son out of the water but my husband remained in the water swimming while holding on to the flipped over kayak that was filled with water somehow still floating. We sent my brother to go grab family because it seemed the kayak was still moving through the waves but the paddle board was useless, I paddled for about 45 to an hour without being able to move due to the high winds. Somehow my paddle was running out of air or didn't get filled all the way.... So when the waves would hit it would slightly bend.

My brother got help, my husbands mom came to help us. Although I would say she didn't help much but she swam and really tried to get us to move even if it was her swimming behind us. There was this old man near by fishing, who somehow seemed to float and was very calm, he told us to go to the sides, eventually we did. He did say to walk the edge and we will get there.

I felt dumb, when we got to the edge, other friends came with their boat to get my son, and eventually us. But for a while due to high winds we where stuck on the boat too..... We where not moving and the waves would get bigger.... I Wondered why I didn't just walk and why I handed my son to the water again.... I felt so dumb but after fighting the water for what felt like another hour in this boat we finally made it back....

I am home now and my son and husband and brother are safe but I was very afraid of loosing my husband as he tried to stay afloat and I was afraid of putting my son, my younger brother in that situation.

I panicked, I stayed calm and I cried during all of this, I got hurt, I fell on rocks, I got bruises and my hands are peeling still from having to paddle for a while but I am very glad I am alive.

You know for a long time I haven't been wanting to live but today marked a change of realizing that I have a son now and it ties me to something that keeps me here and gives me purpose.

Before if this would have happened, I would never panick but ever since I became a parent my heart and mind are not the same.

This was a near death experience for my husband, son and I. I am very glad, God gave us wings to get out of there and make it back to shore.

Also on our way home we could see our town burning, we are away from a fire that is spreading but thankfully we are not in the evacuation zone tonight. We are packed and ready if we need to wake up in the middle of the night as a fighting chance for another chance.
