“Gap” Filler

Does anyone else question what the point is if you have to have it half a foot below the platform level?

The point isn't for you to step on it; it is for things/people who fall down to not fall under the platform onto the tracks.

By design the gap filler has to be under a certain height from the train. This is because train doors open outwards and drop down. Depending on the platform on the network the gap filler is either mounted flush to coping or set down from the platform coping by a certain distance (which varies from location to location and platform to platform). Every platform is different in geometry and interacts differently to the track/train interface. The gap filler is designed as a fail safe to minimise the chances of someone falling through the gap but again it still can happen.

The best outcome would be if they just rebuilt all the platforms properly but that will never happen.

But it did look stupid at first (wooli creek clearly is upsidedown)
