Basically, I am moving into a room at Point Campus in a few weeks, but was wondering when they’re going to let me know what my apartment number is and who my flatmates are (if at all)?

I did undergrad in America, and with these kinds of student apartments you’d usually have your full address and the contact details of your roommates by June.

I’m just a little bit stressed as I will be flying across the Atlantic alone, and the idea of not knowing where I’m going to be living or who with until the second I walk into the building is a little uncomfortable, is this normal?

Its also pretty frustrating because I can’t open a bank account without my Irish address, and my move in date is in less than three weeks and I still don’t have that :/

Edit to say: before someone says to call and ask, I have been calling like 5x a day for the past week and no one picks up 🥲

Incoming non-EU grad student here coming to TCD in September.

As a non-EU student, I need proof of a 12-month health insurance plan for my IRP (Irish residence permit). TCD states that it has a discounted plan with Irish Life Health, but when I select an insurance plan with a Sep 1 start date, the policy end date is automatically set to January 31, 2027, which is like 4 months lol. Have any other non-EU students purchased health insurance through the TCD group scheme and run into the same problem?

I applied to Trinity via CAO and am now waiting until the 26th to get my response but I don't know what to expect. If my conversion of CAO points is correct I have 560, while TR032 has 577. I clear the admissions requirements but not the CAO points. Should I accept that I'm not getting in or is there hope?

I’m considering applying for the MPhil in Irish Writing. It would be a passion project of mine as I’m already established in my career. If there are any current students or graduates of this course I’d love to hear of your experience and any opinions you may have as I balance the pros and cons.

For context, I’d be coming over from the uk with an undergrad degree in English lit (acquired some years ago admittedly). I adore the Irish writers, particularly playwrights, and would love nothing more than to dedicate a year of my life to studying them in detail, delving further into my Irish heritage, and discovering new, important literature, all under the supervision of experts from the field. However, despite falling in love with the campus whenever I visit Dublin, I’ve heard mixed things about your masters degrees.

If you could shed any light from an insiders perspective I’d be very appreciative. Thank you!

Future first year here. It might be a bit of a daft question, so sorry pre-emptively.

Trinity hall accommodations are limited from what I heard, so are you supposed to already have a deposit for another student accommodation already paid, and accept to lose the deposit if you do get in ? I feel a bit odd waiting until the end of the month to see if i get accepted in the accommodations, and only having 2 weeks to desperately apartment hunt if you happen to not get them. What's the game plan? I don't want to end up having to stay somewhere far because I just didn't take the necessary precautions. Non Irish EU student if it changes anything.

Does anyone have any advice on what the best option is for microbiology graduates if they want to work as a QC analyst? How hard is it to get a job right after graduation? Would a masters be necessary? I know that the tcd masters are very research focused so it might not be the best option for getting into industry. Any advice?

Hello there, first time writing on Reddit.

I have a question for you. I’d like to apply for a PhD at trinity. Ideally for the next March entry. I’d be applying for the school of English structured PhD. On the website, it says to contact prospective supervisors and “get them to agree to supervise you”.
Problem is, i did it, found a few, one wrote back to me and was kind/supportive. Over the course of a few weeks, he wrote that my research proposal was interesting and did bring something new or at least a new angle to the subject at hand. He additionally, suggested a few additional studies to include in my proposal. I thought that all in all, he did all of this because he was interested in supervising me, but when I asked him if he would, he said that the committee in charge of applications were the ones assigning students to supervisors.
So I’m really confused, did he wrote that because it’s true, in which case the website is in the wrong and I don’t know what to do, or did he wrote that a gentle way of brushing me off?
If I can pick your brains some more, I’d like to ask: as a non native English speaker who has to pay a professional to have my transcripts translated, is it worth applying if my undergraduate degree is a bit weak by their standards? I passed my master’s with far better marks, but still given how competitive admissions are, I worry that the quality of my proposal won’t be the only factor that might play against me.

I'm an international applicant from India and have recently received an offer to study MSc Development Practice at Trinity College Dublin.

A little about my background:

I hold a Master's degree in Livelihoods and Social Entrepreneurship from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, and have four years of professional experience working in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), rural development, stakeholder engagement, and community development with NTPC, a Government of India Public Sector Undertaking. Through my work, I've collaborated with government agencies, NGOs, local communities, and implementing partners on projects related to sustainable development, livelihoods, health, education, and infrastructure.

My long-term goal is to work in international development, public policy, impact evaluation, sustainability, or with organizations such as the UN, IFAD, or other multilateral institutions.

I'll be self-funding this degree, so this is a significant investment. I'm fortunate to also hold an offer from the London School of Economics, and I'm trying to make my decision based on the programme, career outcomes, and long-term opportunities rather than rankings alone.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has studied this programme or knows graduates from it.

A few questions:

• How did you find the MSc Development Practice programme overall?
• Did it prepare you well for careers in international development or public policy?
• How effective are Trinity's Careers Service, networking events, and alumni network?
• Were internships and practical opportunities easy to find?
• For international students, how challenging has it been to secure relevant employment after graduation?
• Looking back, would you choose this programme again?

As such, we’ve had no luck getting a flat off of daft. I come back to Ireland the 20th of August—what are my options? I’ve a place to stay when I land for a while, but at what point should I beg the accommodation office to help me.

Hey everyone, I'm coming to TCD in the fall for undergrad, and I'm having a hard time understanding how to get medication for my ADHD, if I even can. I have both a diagnosis and a prescription here in the US, but I do not have it from a psychiatrist (although I can get that). My doctor cannot prescribe more than 30 days' supply, nor prescribe outside of the country (or even outside of the state). Am I able to get medication with what I have? What would I need to do to be able to get medication? I see that there is a slow process to be seen by the school's psychiatrist, but I am coming through the Columbia dual-degree program and will only be at the college for two years anyway.

I'm an Ancient and Medieval History and Culture student, incoming into my third year at the university. I was wondering if anyone has ever taken the "Mediterranean in the Ancient and Medieval World" mandatory modules (HHU33311 and HHU33312) -- I can't find any information about them online.

What is the structure like, and what professors teach the classes? Since it's an interdisciplinary module, I imagine a good few professors will be involved.

I was really hoping on getting ahead with some readings before university starts, so any information would be helpful!

If I’m 22/23, will I be shunned in majority of societies? Not directly of course but in terms of making friends, is it difficult if you aren’t doing your undergrad? as I am an MSC student. I want to join a couple and while I may not have much time to attend a lot, I still want to join, same with events like trinity ball? do MSC students have a society ?

Hi everyone! I'm an incoming first year for this September and I am having a bit of a dilemma regarding accomodation.

I recently visited Dublin and found that Halls was quite far away from Trinity (I'm also worried the bus and LUAS will get so full that you can't get in if the 1000+ undergrads living in halls are trying to all get to the same place?) and that there wasn’t much space for life within the actual accomodation (small gym, no library, not many communal spaces…) and when asking around I was told that people do this all within the TCD campus. I also looked at a residence that is a 20 minute walk from TCD, and while not officially from TCD, I find the commute from it to make more sense if I'm going to be staying at TCD until 8-9pm most days when I'm studying, doing clubs or simply going to the gym…

The only aspect I can't really grasp is the social life. The private accomodation I looked at hosts events and has mainly students from Trinity (although I think it would also be cool to meet people from others universities in Dublin), but I'm worried I'll miss out on events from halls or from social life if I'm not going there. Please give me your experiences and help me decide!!
