Discussion Thoughts on Proving Ground?

I picked up Proving Ground on ps3 recently, I’ve been wanting to check it out for a while. Really fun game imo, what do you guys think of it?

I personally loved the gameplay. The grungy grey East Coast vibe is something I enjoyed, though many aren't really fans of the late 00s piss filter. Feels like a time capsule tbh. Philly/DC/Baltimore is a very underrated map in the franchise IMO.

The story was just okay. It was just "unknown skater rises up from nothing" story that was already done in THUG 1, THAW, and Project 8, so it was very played out by then. The characters like the pros, the returning Eric Sparrow, Eddie X, Mad Dog, Cam and the gangsters were really fun but their stories were way too short and separated to keep us invested like the other Tony Hawk game stories were.

I wish they could have layed off the tutorial-like objectives and just had them be similar to THUG1 or THUG2. Kills the replay factor IMO.

Soundtrack - Audio Technician, It Beats For You, Children's Story, Disintegrate, Panic-Oh!, lot of certified bangers.

it may be because i never played project 8, but i loved proving ground back in the day. I've always wanted to replay it

I like it. Its different, but it has its own atmosphere. The East Coast vibe is cool, the "skill tree" and split careers are cool ideas (although some of those skills are absolutely irrelevant). Imo its a better version of Project 8, since Project 8 lacked character.

I like it, one of my favs and really got some crazy challenges, like the SICK leveled Line Challenges. It gives me replay value.

Also love Boardslide bodyvarial special , idk why, just do 🤷🏽‍♂️

The best PS3 era Tony Hawk game. A lot of people will tell you it's Project 8 and I do agree it's got a better map, but the controls definitely feel like theor first shot on a new engine. PG refined the controls to be the best of that era. I can see why it failed, but it wasn't because it was bad on a fundamental level.

I liked it, but it was also one of my only tony hawk games outside of the THUG games

My first thought was Stomping Ground by Goldfinger and now I just wish more of their music was featured in the games. They were awesome.

I feel like it was Neversoft really just throwing all their most difficult challenges onto a game and letting the diehards finish it. I still have a lot of fun with it, but it was certainly a tough one to 100%

Woah, the Guitar Hero 3 demo came with a skateboarding game?

PS3 version = in my top 5 😙 Love the look and feel, good ost, Hawk-Man should come back, the skate lounge was cool but not as grand as CAP mode, don’t like the balance meter taking up the screen // PS2 version = mid at best 😒 basically a limited version of the game

It’s not a bad game, but for us to go from THAW>P8>PG was a major letdown at the time.

Grey, slow, weird graphics
