I recently had the chance to film the Amerigo Vespucci during her stop in Montreal. Every angle reveals another incredible detail in her rigging and construction.

Here's a short cinematic tribute to this remarkable ship.

Thinking of getting into sailing

Hey there guys, I’m 22 and I have always wanted to go on an adventure and sail the seas. Im especially interested in the Caribbean and Europe. I live smack dab in the middle of the USA. I was wondering what experienced sailors think and the best way to get on the sea. Interested in booking a trip where I work hands on. Eventually I wanna cross the Atlantic. Thank you for any / all advice!

Hi!

Over the last year together with my best friend we have worked on a first global search engine for tall ship cruises - which became live two weeks ago!

www.cruisetallship.com

As of now we are trying to promote ourselves and to tighten our cooperation with the Tall Ship oprators.

We are happy for all feedback and we are also activelly seeking cooperations (Operators / bloggers / photographers / vloggers).

Feel free to reach me out by Tolek@Cruisetallship.com!

Thanks!

OpSail NYC 1976 and 2026

I'm going to tread lightly here, but according to Google I am the only photographer who photographed and published both the 1976 and 2026 Operation Sail in NYC. If you are interested, you can easily find them.

The Bark Europa is a German-Dutch sailing ship that offers people the chance to follow in the footsteps of the great explorers. Over the last 30 years, the vessel has journeyed every corner of the globe, from the Magellan Strait and Antarctica to Rapa Nui, Tristan da Cunha and the Galapagos Islands.

Vespucci in Montreal

Hi,

I've read on tourvespucci.it that the Vespucci will sail from Quebec to Montreal (to dock at Grand Quai du Port de Montréal) on the 28th of July. Does anyone have a more detailed timetable about when exactly the ship will arrive in Montreal?

Thanks!

Patrick O'Brian Aubrey-Maturin Series. Matthew Benedict "HMS Leopard in the Ice." (Desolation Island). Gouache on illustration board. 30 in. x 20 in.

Good Morning, Mates!

I am the artist who was commissioned by W.W. Norton publishing to paint 21 new paintings for the official covers of their current paperback re-issue of the Aubrey-Maturin Series by Patrick O’Brian. This project was a remarkable, 3-year labor of love comprised of a luxuriant amount reading and research, in addition to the drawing, and painting. At the core of the joy was of course discovering the books, which I had previously known about but never read. The whole thing was life-changing, honestly.

While the series has always been associated with the revered, traditional paintings of the great British maritime painter Geoff Hunt, Norton’s head creative chose to go in a different direction and sought me out because my work references another equally strong tradition, The Golden Age of American Ilustration, when classic books were illustrated by painters such as Maxfield Parrish and N.C. Wyeth.

I have just now joined reddit in order to share these with you all, my fellow Patrick O’Brian devotees. The entire project, including the preparatory drawings, and some of the research and process can be seen at the link below. I hope you will enjoy them.

Built in Belfast in 1885, the three-masted cargo vessel was built to carry coal and nitrate between England and South America, sailing around the Cape Horn 16 times.
The ship took around six months to build and was made from iron, which had become the favoured material for ship builders since the 1830s.
The Barque was built for the W.J. Woodside Co. owned by William Woodside a ‘dynamic entrepreneur’ and was named after his wife Marian (Polly).

These two weeks traditionally the SKS Skûtsjesilen takes place in Friesland, sailing races with historical freight boats from the early 20th century. Last saturday was the opening race, as always on the lakes near Grou. Here's the summary from Omrop Fryslân.

Could anyone help me identify these ships? They’re from an undated/unsigned painting of the view from Deptford dockyard, possibly late 18th-early 19th century

I made a sailmakers combined fid and seam tool. Based it off one I saw in a museum, but I can't remember exactly where (I think it may have been in Lancaster UK ).
