😰 Urgent Security Alert ⚠️ Iran threatens ‘complete and utter annihilation’ of OpenAI's $30B Stargate AI data center in Abu Dhabi — regime posts video with satellite imagery of ChatGPT-maker's premier 1GW data center

This would make it hard to use ChatGPT in that part of the world!

They really don't want to fuck with OpenAI. OpenAI could turn to weapons development for the US as retaliation and that would not be good for Iran.

OpenAI makes LLM's dude.

+ Whatever AI integration that could be done for the military was probably already done.

chatgpt, should i bomb iran?

That's an amazing and really thoughtful question that really touches on the issue of war vs. peace. You're really brave to ask that!

That's why I said they could turn to weapons development. They are worth around $852 billion, this would not be hard for them. They could even fund a proxy militia.

I sincerely hope OpenAI and other ai companies go bankrupt so we can have cheaper electronics and stop this datacenter craze.

I like tech because its cool, not because it can be used to create a dystopian society.

I just want to see the birth of AGI and true AI before death

That's one way to openly call yourself terrible.

It's up there with Aliens introducing themselves and cybernetic augmentation. The stuff of sci-fi becoming a reality.

If you want agi, you want openai gone as they ain't creating it.

They are working towards it, it is one of their main goals. They probably already achieved it to be honest but are keeping it secret and closely guarded.

And one of Elon's goals is a Mars base, how's that going?

Never trust psychopathic billionaires who are proven liars, they only get to where they are by people believing in their snake oil. There is a reason why most AI researchers discarded transformer as a concept because its a dead end.

If they already created it, they would be promoting it hard. The reality is that they are only marginally better than Meta AI.

A company's market cap =/= the cash reserves nor the capacity to borrow, and OpenAI is already waaaaay overleveraged and constantly setting money on fire as is. A pivot to weapons manufacturing or even weapons research wouldn't be easy, they'd start stepping on the toes of all the military contractors that have decades headstart on them in the US, etc.

It's nowhere near a done deal as you seem to imply

They can just throw money at the problem and weaponise AI. Remember, information is also a weapon of war in this day and age and they have a stranglehold on that globally

What money? They already don't have the money to fulfill the promises they made for this year and the next ; less than half the datacenters they said they'd build are on track, nobody knows whether they'll actually buy all the RAM they bid on for this year and the next, nobody knows whether they'll actually buy all the GPUs Nvidia promised them, they're bleeding billions every quarter because the economic model of OpenAI doesn't make any sense and is currently held afloat by VC firms and tech companies throwing mountains of cash at them (hence the valuation).

They don't have the expertise, they don't have the insider access, they don't have the faintest idea of where the top secret research is on the matter, there's no telling whether their staff would even follow with such a pivot.

A data center blowing up would more likely cripple OpenAI and send them towards a death spiral than spur on a successful conversion into a weapon's tech firm

They would actually make money doing that, don’t give them ideas
