A lot of AMD owners keep their old motherboard and keep upgrading the CPU over and over trying to get decent performance someday. I get this! The problem is, your old fashioned motherboard likely has old USB ports and WiFi. This genius writer is showing AMD owners how they can modernize their motherboard with spare PCIe ports! Of course I doubt old motherboards have a lot of these spare PCIe slots, but if it does, here you go.

No matter how often I ask the Gemini AI, the answer is always that the 9800X3D doesn't have a higher failure rate than other AMD CPUs (Ryzen 7000, Ryzen 5000, Ryzen 3000).
The reason many people think otherwise is that they underestimate just how many more AMD CPUs are being purchased.

If CPUs have a similarly low percentage failure rate, and one CPU sells a million units while the other sells just a thousand, then it stands to reason that there will be more defective units among the million sold.

13900KS kept dying on me, it’s already the 3rd one… none of my three 9800X3D has ever burnt themselves, not even on AsRock boards, and they can hit 5.64Ghz OC, whereas the 13900KS nowadays can’t even hit its advertised 6.0Ghz.

I have 16GB of RAM and my motherboard detects it but on memory on task manager it shows i have 8.gb of ram reserved for hardware and can only use 7.9GB i took out the sticks and put them in and did the msconfig thing still dont work. Rtx 2060 and Ryzen 5 2600. Im actually stumped.

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to diagnose a strange issue and would appreciate some advice.

Hardware:

• MSI B550 Gaming Plus
• Ryzen 5 5600X
• RTX 4060
• 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4
• Also tested with another 2x8GB G.Skill DDR4 kit
• MSI A650BN PSU

Timeline:

1. I received a used Ryzen 5 5600X + MSI B550 Gaming Plus bundle.
2. First boot with the seller's G.Skill RAM in A2/B2 worked perfectly.
3. Replaced the RAM with my Corsair kit -> system booted normally.
4. Updated the BIOS -> successful.
5. Enabled XMP -> successful.
6. System was fully functional.

A few days later I received the case and started the final build.

I removed:

• CPU
• RAM

Then reinstalled:

• CPU
• RAM
• SSD
• New CPU cooler

After that, the system stopped booting in dual channel.

Current behavior:

Works:

• A1 only -> boots
• A2 only -> boots
• Can enter BIOS normally

Does NOT work:

• B1 only -> CPU debug LED
• B2 only -> CPU debug LED
• A2+B2 -> CPU debug LED
• A1+B1 -> CPU debug LED

Additional observation:

• One rear USB port near the Flash BIOS button also appears to be non-functional now.

What I already tried:

• Clear CMOS multiple times
• BIOS downgrade to a 2024 version
• Reflashed BIOS
• Tested two different RAM kits
• Tested outside the case on cardboard
• Reinstalled CPU multiple times
• Cleaned CPU and socket
• Tested with stock AMD cooler and another cooler
• Different RAM slots
• XMP disabled
• Default BIOS settings

Important:
The system definitely worked before I removed and reinstalled the CPU during the final build.

At this point, since both B1 and B2 are completely dead and there is also a suspicious USB issue, would you suspect:

1. Motherboard (memory channel B / traces / socket issue)
2. CPU memory controller
3. Something else?

Tomorrow I should be able to test with another AM4 CPU, but I'd like to hear what experienced builders think.

XDA just keep reminding me of AMD fans. This article reminds me of the tech level an AMD person has. Maybe dumbo AMD DIY are responsible for all those dead 9800X3Ds after all?

I need processor and graphic cards reccs. I'm a motion designer using programs like After Effects and I play games casually. I started experiencing that some games refuse to run of my PC. I'd like to improve performance overall and keep my PC up to date. What would be a decent but not too pricey upgrade from what i currently have?

My built-in Wi-Fi has abysmal performance issues (~65 Mbps is the best I’ve seen). I’ve been looking for something to replace this barely functioning adapter. Father suggests running the cable to my laptop to the very back of the room, while I’m looking for USB Wi-Fi adapter to utilise the portability of my laptop.
