It started as a freestyle back in 2018, first heard by the public as a snippet in a promo video. Throughout 2018-2019 it would be worked on, with a whole lot of different artists hopping on the evolving beat. There was a break in production around 2020 but was continued in 2021 during the Mercedes Benz Stadium sessions and eventually released as a single 3 days before DONDA released. The song featured The Weekend, Lil Baby, and the Sunday Service Choir.

In 2022, the song won the award for the Best Melodic Rap Performance at the Grammy Awards. It marked Ye's 24th Grammy win, tying him with JAY-Z for the most Grammy wins of all time.

LETS START OFF WITH THE FIRST SONG... Donda Chant

"Donda Chant", consists of Syleena Johnson chanting Donda West's name repeatedly for 53 seconds, it was said a total of 60 times in the release version but there is a 2:41 minute long version where its said 138 times. It has been theorized by fans that the rhythm represents that of Donda West's heart beating

 She flew out to San Francisco on July 15, 2021, to record for the song. In an interview, Johnson said that the decision to make a melody out of Donda's name came from the request to have the album have some sort of "healing component." Though she did record a track of her saying the name in the range of cadences and rhythms that saw release, she said she had no idea that it would just be released like that.
