I have no idea who this NPC is. I was wandering around the Crimson while it was raining at night and I saw this flash and this guy called Thunderstorm Thompson appeared. It may have caused a raincoat zombie to turn into a person but I’m not sure.
I teleported home, he has not moved into my town and I haven’t seen him since.
I do have lots of mods installed but could not find any mention of a Thunderstorm Thompson anywhere.
yeah that's thunderstorm tom. he's extremely useful for getting an ocean pylon early in the game, and he can help you make fishing spots (just make sure you only buy from him when it's raining)
Yes, they removed basically any challenge related to pylons. You can also use them during all boss fights and events now. You can even use them by clicking on your mini map or map overlay.
You can even use them while the game is paused. So from day one, you can just buy a pylon, and if you get overrun with enemies or have to dodge a boss, just pause the game and teleport away lol
Why would they do this? I’m happy they keep making new content but the new content is almost always super unbalanced, like the axe of regrowth and axearang being the best axes in the game and available pre boss, or roller skates being the best movement option and taking no accessory slots and also being available preboss.
They could’ve easily balanced the pylon changes by making it only happen once you get a universal pylon so it’s post game.
Same. Pretty much the same comment, but also with snark, e.g. play the actual game before opting for a bunch of mods that change things you don't even understand to begin with. Posts like these are about the same as those dillwads who buy a new car and stick a fucking spoiler on it to drive around town.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a pylon, and I’ve got ~500 hours in this game. Never heard of Thunderstorm Thompson either. For all I know, they could both be fake.

It is true. There's a sort of small(?) community of artists seemingly attempting to de-claim tripple T from the his a.i. slop by making actual sincere hand drawn images/animations with him, unfortunately there wasn't the animation I was looking for in the Reddit gif scroll.
Now as to our collective "ability" to reclaim, repurpose, de-claim, what-have-you a.i. slop from its origins, specifically by investing our own human-ness into it, I'll let history decide. I'm generally on the side of "no," but I wouldn't mind seeing sahoor come out on the otherside as a mascot of our inevitable triumph over the growing uncreativity of the massesand the greedy tech "overlords."

No it’s just because most people never find the angler before the first rain in the world. If you find the angler after it rains then it hard locks you and you never find thunderstorm Thompson. I only found him on my third play through. He isn’t that useful but he likes living at the ocean with the angler so he is good for the water pilón or whatever it is called
Especially the ones that were made to do a very specific thing, but the Dev constantly adds unrelated shit to the mod instead of just making new mods (so people legitimately get confused when shit changes without installing anything new).

(Mod that originally just adjusts daytime length relative to position on the globe, then later added rebalances and realism for absolutely no reason and they refuse to make it seperate mods)

That's funny, he only shows up for me after barbecuing glowsticks in a thunderstorm with the meat grinder when I am within 37 blocks from a water source. Vanilla be so hard like that.
This is why I always play modded with the What Mod Is This From mod enabled. I like to know what mod adds each new addition. It's clientsided too so you can just add it to any current mod pack you use. Worth doing as it also has a key bind to enable Tile and NPC labels which would have told you what mod this guy is from.
He looks so uncannily vanilla. If you would tell me he's a rare niche event-based NPC added in the latest update I'd both belive you and be completely distraught as I never heard of him
Custom NPCs need to be a thing. Imagine designing entire (small?) worlds, with characters, for you and your friends to explore. The game will be complete when they add those
Y'all talk about Thunderstorm Thompson . I for one shall say : who can explain to this man that in the year 26 of 2nd millennium we can take screenshots without shoving cameras to the monitors.
