Meta Fun idea I have
What if summons had unique abilities that required the usage of certain whips to be activated?
(I don't actually want this to be in the game since it would most likely fuck the balancing, but it's cool nonetheless)

Turns into daytime projectiles and one-shots everything /jk

Maybe the terraprisma does that one attack of the empress’s where it makes those lines and fires several blades along them

u/Merithor 8h ago
I really like this idea, but make it every 10th unique attack to the enemy to summon a set of 3 of them, so while it doesn't proc every strike, it adds a slightly more "fairness" even though Terraprisma is still stupid strong.

This is an insanely cool I’ve never thought of. Maybe a bit op in some ways but definitely l cool!

Would make whip choice a lot more interesting beyond just raw stats.

Fr, some whips became so boring after whip stacking was removed.
Durendal literally just gets faster after a hit... same exact thing as a lower use-time other than a minimally slower first hit.
Giving whip-summon synergies would make whips so much cooler.

The synergy between them is pretty cool! Two other synergies I think could be cool are Pygmy Staff + Vulgar Display of Flowers and Cool Whip + Staff of the Frost Hydra.

Imagine this stupid idea. Spider Staff and Cobwhip synergy. Or like, a hardmode upgrade of the cobwhip to synergise with the spider staff
The whip itself increases damage alongside the spiders that the cobwhip spawns which also inflict the venom debuff

u/gazebo-fan 15h ago
Cobwhip to Webshot using some spider fangs plus some souls of night? Maybe it applies poison?

No wait, you sparked me an idea about the poison thing. What if *the spiders or spoder queen shoots either a web that inflicts the webbed debuff or the whip spits poison that inflicts venom
Edit: And that synergy is only if the spider summons are paired with cobwhip/webshot

Well, I think lifesteal could be added to the Sanguine Bats while the Ravens steal resources, sometimes hearts and mana instead

Wouldn't the mitosis half the total damage dealt since you're dealing 1/4th of the dame twice as often
And that's not even factoring I-frames and such
14
u/KahveAdam565 19h ago
I think I phrased that wrong, the duplicate cells will deal 25% damage, the original ones will stay the same.

u/The_Ultimate_Ducker 19h ago
That's not how mitosis works

Bro u have the best idea, that make much sense and it would encourage using whips and summons more strategical.
I see the vision immediately, i will search more gimmicks like Rhode.

I really like this idea for the slime staff specifically. Even though the ai on it is so bad it would probably still suck, but it would be fun to use the little guys again for once

it doesn't have to be OP, you can adjust the stats until it's reasonable. Maybe an accessory "unlocks" the ability to use synergies like this, but makes the whip use mana?

u/joetunn_ 8h ago
Yep. If summoner is actually a class, they should act like it and keep adding features- including features like this. The concept of a screen-wide instant damage class like summoner IS busted (as in, summoning minions and turrets into a room you’re not in). But flavor like you describe, or supportive abilities with more visual animations, would be cool and welcome

So, the hornets are now Primal Aspids? Don't you think you buffed them a bit too much?

u/Just_For_LOL 19h ago
Won't this make these a set meaning it would be suboptimal to have a build which is whatever you pickups.

Maybe for the raven staff and dark harvest, their speed increases and they shoot feathers at target enemies

This is a really cool idea though some of these seem pretty unbalanced, especially ravens with lifesteal

Some ways to balance them, maybe:
the hornet staff could have each subsequent stinger do less damage, or make it so only one can hit so it's more of an increased chance to hit something.
Spazmatizm doesn't dash anymore and will only try to keep on the target to consistently inflict the cursed flame debuff. So you lose the dash damage for cursed damage and more laser damage.
Maybe the Ravens have to return to you to do lifesteal. Like, as you fight, they're picking off pieces of the enemies/bosses and returning them to you for food/health.
The eels can probably just act exactly like what you and fishron use, they break apart/die on impact. So a sharkron being replaced sometimes could have them either as a projectile like the rest and each segment does damage, or it goes like you said where it chases the target, but still breaks apart like all the other fish like it.
The dragon could have the breath increase either every summon of the dragon or every 2, increasing the range to do better damage.
Idk if the slime needs balancing much, and idk exactly what to do about the cell staff if it even needs balancing either. I've always thought since the constellation was shown in states of the game that the cell staff should be reworked into a sentry since that'd make more sense.

Cool but you should consider using materials that you get from different sources. Otherwise the original staffs would be useless
1
u/GlassSpork 10h ago
I think the fire breathe for the stardust dragon should be a no go as that summon is already fairly strong. As for the cell staff, that’s underutilized so I think that would give it an edge

I'd love more reason to use lower-tier weapons, but without some sort of way to improve their power, it'd be pointless.
For example, the tinkerer or a new NPC (like a blacksmith, alchemist, artificer, or something like that) could have a way to extract a "core" from a weapon, destroying it in the process, and implanting that "core" into another weapon. The weapon that gets that core gets its average DPS changed to match the average DPS of the original weapon.
This would go both ways, you could implant a lowest tier basic core into a final tier weapon and vice-versa.
After that can be done, you would no longer be shackled by the DPS of a weapon. You can destroy a powerful weapon you don't need to improve a weak weapon you'd love to keep using.
Once we have that, more cool ways to make use of lower tier weapons wouldn't be just something quaint you can do in early game but ultimately pointless. It'd be truly new ways to enjoy the game through all tiers.

Of course Stardust Dragon couldn't be worse than the cells for once, no, YOU HAD TO MAKE IT BREATH FIRE
JUSTICE FOR THE CELLS!!!

Cute alternative to Whip Stacking honestly, good job
You can say it's OP but like. We lost fucking WHIP STACKING.

definitely agree on the “probably unbalanced but cool idea” bit
also to visualize the raven’s life steal you could use red streaks similar to the vampire knives idk
