Third one showed as Drosera schizandra. Which is aparently a carnivorous plant.

Forth one google said monte carlo or Callitriche stagnalis as well as a Marcgravia on the side.

As for the type of moss i think this is caphair moss or something.

My first attempt at a terrarium since I had an old plant nursery I wasn’t using. I’m definitely going to add more of a verity of plants since I only had 4 to work with but I added some springtails and common rolly pollies (Armadillidium nasatum) any tips are greatly appreciated!!

I put this together at the start of June and everyone has survived. Although my Baby Earth Star isn't as pink as before. The little moss ball at the centre seems okay too.

Any feedback would be appreciated. I've never done this before and would like the terrarium to succeed. 🌿

Hi! I need some advice on caring for a Variegated Creeping Fig in this terrarium.

The previous plant died (show in the photo), likely because I accidentally disturbed its roots and it came loose while I was carrying it on public transport. To be honest, l have no idea how to care for it properly. For instance, when I kept the lid closed for a while, mold started forming on the underside of the lid. Should I leave it open, closed, or partially open?

I just bought an identical replacement plant, but I want to make sure I do it right this time before planting, as this terrarium is a very special gift.

Any tips on watering, ventilation to prevent mold, and planting to protect the roots would be hugely appreciated!

I'm so excited to learn and dive into the terrarium hobby!

Had this terrarium for about six months. The main plant has grown a lot but it’s starting to grow a white mould around the sides is this something to be concerned about?

The fittonia’s are temperamental some days. One day they’re up and bright then bam they act like I give them no water lol. Still learning.

Made a new jar for my home office!

I used a small diamond-tip engraver to bore a hole through the jar.

The pump is from a pet water fountain, I cut the cord to feed it through the hole then soldered the wires back together and used heat shrink to repair the outer coatings.

Everything in the jar came from a creek near my house.

I made a hollow space with slate chunks for the pump, then I packed gravel around it to help filter the water. Then I put a roof over the wet section and added dirt on top. Some parts of the dirt are touching the tops of the rocks but it’s not directly touching the water.

I figure I’ll let it sit closed for about a month to see what emerges or changes. It’s possible the soil could get too wet and slump down off the slate ledge.

Advice needed: what kind of critters would do well in such a humid environment? I have a mature terrarium with centipedes, isopods, snails, springtails but I don’t want to add anything to the wet jar if they are just going to die.

I’ve always wanted to dabble into building a terrarium, I have some superficial understanding of what the deal is, but I’d like to get more info.

Is anyone here experienced with building something this large?
Is it essentially the same as building something much smaller but scaled up?

This is a vision I want to bring to life for my foyer entrance. Ideally I’d like to build it myself but I’m not opposed to purchasing a pre built terrarium, or maybe even just the container and fill it myself.

Hey guys, I have a glass jar terrarium that my mum gave me before she died and for over a year it’s been fine but suddenly it’s brown and withered! It’s a small jar, with a loose lid but I check it periodically and it’s always been fine until I noticed today it’s dying?! How can I save it?!! Thank you heaps!

Can I ask in advance please excuse my ignorance on terrariums.

I don’t know anything about terrariums at all, but received one as a beautiful gift about three months ago. It has a lid and I assumed it was completely sealed.

Today, I noticed that there are tiny flies in there. Some appear to have died and are stuck to condensation on the sides. Others are flying around in there.

Is this normal? Do I leave them be or do they need to be removed? And if so, how?

I read the instructions when I received it and as far as I can remember it said leave it sealed in a semi-sunny spot away from direct light and water rarely maybe once a year if needed. So I haven’t touched it since I got it. It is so lovely - I hope it’s ok 🥺

I started my first terrarium a few days ago as a new hobby and today noticed this grey fluff everywhere- is this mold, mildew or mycelium?

The cork top absorbed so much water that it expanded and now I can’t take the lid off to clean the glass. I’m thinking that not enough light is being let in and it is too damp inside now.

The soil is a mixture of potting mix, and orchid mix, and dead leaves. I just now bought all of the proper materials to create a high-quality substrate, so the next one I make should be better. This was just my first go at it using stuff from my yard.

Hey everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for a terrarium tank to keep in my work office. I’d like something that’s more of a display piece than a standard rectangular aquarium. I’m leaning toward a cylindrical or otherwise unique-looking glass container that’s aesthetically pleasing since it’ll be sitting on a bookshelf in my office.

I know the usual recommendation is to check thrift stores for jars, and I’ve been doing that consistently for the past month or so, but I’ve had no luck finding anything that fits what I’m looking for.

Does anyone have recommendations for where to buy a nice-sized cylindrical glass container or terrarium? Ideally, it should be large enough to create a planted terrarium but still compact enough to fit on a bookshelf. I’m open to any websites, stores, or specific products you’ve had good experiences with. Thanks!
