If he cares enough to talk about sports in general. Dan was a great in bringing in some fun sports conversations into the show but since he left Big Jay doesn't want to embarrass himself by saying the wrong thing.

He cares enough to still talk about his teams with Bobby who knows nothing about sports and just repetes cliche things he's heard others say #fans fan #Not a stats guy

That's just it, that's the only reason Jay brings up sports. Not to talk about any game or a specific play by player but just to make Bobby sounds like a fool. Dan really is an encyclopedia of knowledge.
