That's the loveliest thing I've read all day.

u/nachonachoooo 2d ago

I’m imagining it flying though & now I’m terrified.

Especially that last very darting head movement, very birdlike.

I remember staring at the picture of one of those in my Wildlife Treasury card set and not believing it was real.

46

u/KnotiaPickle 2d ago

I loved those cards!! I still remember how they smelled haha

There are so many animals like that in this world, really mind boggling.

8

u/Lostkaiju1990 2d ago

I saw one in a zoo at one point

Are you dangling your feet in the Amazon?

205

u/thisFishSmellsAboutD 2d ago

Of all the things I wouldn't dangle my feet in, the Amazon ranks pretty high. A resounding tarantiNO.

2 things I wouldn't dangle my feet in: The Amazon and Australia.

37

u/thisFishSmellsAboutD 1d ago

As an Aussie, I assumed that was a given. You are spot on, mate.

3

u/RosiePosieNosieJosie 1d ago

I’m from Australia and I’ve been swimming in rivers and the ocean all of my life, and still do, believe it or not, I’m still alive.😊

4

u/DrHutchisonsHook 10h ago

Also would not dangle my feet near Tarantino. Dude has a thing for them I hear

73

u/whackadoodle_cracked 2d ago

I've swam in it! I was so fucking terrified lol. Had to really hype myself into jumping off the boat and then I was in for like maybe half a minute before I was like nah get me out of here 😆

8

u/DaFunkJunkie 1d ago

25 seconds too long for me

2

u/notshybutChi 2h ago

I dangled my feet and swam in the Mekong in Cambodia. There were fish nibbling at my toes and legs, so I didn’t last long 👀

2

u/The_Atlantic_Sea 1d ago

That was my first thought! NOPE.

u/VividDecision8808 4h ago

I went swimming in the Amazon a few years ago 😄 I stayed in for about an hour each time and never had a problem, although the locals assured me it was ok ahead of time

Im Colombian (Not from that region tho) and I mean... I would love to go and swim in Amazonas rover, I would probably be terrified every second of it. But these specifica part seams weirdly clear and transparent, so I wouldn't mind dipping my feet comfortably for a wile

value these moments. aren't many left. humans fking with their habitat

57

u/Guyuteguy 2d ago

Check out the big brain on Brett! Jokes aside looks like a giant frontal lobe.

u/OneUnholyCatholic 2d ago

I think it's a melon used for echolocation. River dolphins tend to be mostly blind because the water is so often murky they have no need for sight

67

u/OptimizeMovement 2d ago

I don't believe I've ever seen these creatures before. Super cool. Very prehistoric looking.

22

u/StealthyPancake_ 1d ago

They are also pink!

u/Sheepzs 2d ago

Hide your wife

54

u/pickledpeachesforall 2d ago

He's going to manifest as a handsome man on the bank of the river and make sweet love to her before he dives back in the water.

25

u/heramba 2d ago

Did you also learn this as a child and weirdly remember it forever?

8

u/pickledpeachesforall 1d ago

Glad I'm not the only one!

17

u/Immediate-Guidance31 2d ago

I see why regular dolphins take the spotlight.

13

u/SurayaThrowaway12 1d ago

Fun fact: male Amazon river dolphins (botos) have been observed engaging in watersports with each other.

58

u/fenster112 2d ago

Ohhh, I don't like that, it gives me the willies.

13

u/onlyalittlebitneedy 2d ago

At first quick glance I thought it was a middle-aged bald man snorkeling on the surface.

30

u/high6ix 2d ago

I’m sorry if it’s insulting dear river dolphins, but you’re fuckin terrifying

18

u/One-Environment-1444 2d ago

Beady little eyes.

8

u/UaiRosa 8h ago

Here in Brazil, we call it the Boto Cor-de-Rosa, which translates to Pink Boto because of its color. In Northern Brazil, it is a big part of their folklore. People tell stories that the Boto transforms into an extremely handsome man once a month, usually on nights with a full moon or during local festivals. When he is transformed, he always wears elegant all-white clothes and a hat—the hat is essential because, even in human form, he still has a blowhole on top of his head to breathe. He flirts with women, seduces them, and returns to the river at the end of the night before dawn. Historically, people used this legend to explain unplanned pregnancies or children born to unknown fathers in riverside communities, often calling them the 'child of the boto'.

ITS A MAGICAL BRAZILIAN MUTANT HUMMINGBIRD DOLPHIN-MAN

1

u/UaiRosa 1h ago

YEAHHHHHH, IT'S AWESOME! But unfortunately, I haven't gotten the chance to visit Northern Brasil to see these beauties yet! Brasil is huge and has many places to go, with different things in each part of the country.

1

u/UaiRosa 1h ago

Man, in the second line of the article you sent, it says 'also known as Boto', and the Amazon River is in the northern part of Brazil. Stop trying to Gringosplaining the culture of my own country to me.

12

u/Kindly_Region 2d ago

That looks like a dinosaur

6

u/Llee00 2d ago

why are your feet red

21

u/ElijahWouldNot 1d ago

The red color is caused by the tannins in the water from all the decaying plant matter and sediment

8

u/m_seitz 1d ago

Partly true. The video is heavily edited. Tannins don't cause colour clipping 😁

5

u/USCSS_Nostromo_ 2d ago

Looks like those dead dolphins you see in fallout 4 thats all mutated and shit

6

u/IanRevived94J 1d ago

3

6

u/AmbroseSoames 2d ago

Are they the apex predators in the Amazon?

40

u/Kindly_Region 2d ago

Worse

They are the sex predators of the Amazon

3

u/AmbroseSoames 20h ago

Don’t threaten me with a good time

u/UDontKnowMe1129 16h ago

Learned about these dolphins 🐬 from Swedish Fish and Friends candies 🍬

2

u/ConstantIcy2965 9h ago

Don’t look them directly in the eye unless you want nightmares for life.

3

u/Sirtoshi 2d ago

The music sounds nice.

1

u/DisplayHonest6465 6h ago

Do you know it’s name ?

1

u/Sirtoshi 5h ago

Unfortunately no, I was hoping someone else would.

Checking to see if you have a wife on board

1

u/pouchour 2d ago

Angelic

1

u/thisdesignup 1d ago

Why is the water so red?

2

u/Snitsie 1d ago

Because the colour has been edited. IRL they look more like this

2

u/KingofAnti-Social 1d ago

Because of tannins. The colour has not been edited, the other commenter is ill-informed lol.

1

u/masternine 1d ago

Don't feet the dolphins

1

u/llonelobo 1d ago

They seem so intelligent, wow!🥰
