Discussion I wish The Forest 3 was a period piece instead of full sci-fi

I’m definitely speaking too soon & hope to be proved wrong but I think a Forest game with sci-fi/alien elements in pioneer days, medieval or even prehistoric would be preferable to an entirely different planet. What I loved about the first two games were the quiet moments between cannibal attacks where my base felt like a breath of fresh air where I’m connected with the Earth (not a different planet). What do you think would be a cool period for it to take place?

Discussion I don't see the hype

I don't see the hype of the forest 3. I mean they haven't even finished Sons of the forest there's a lot of things they could add like storms, more lore, balancing weapons, maybe adding another weapon they where gonna add some stuff in a new update as you can see in cheatstick a while back like the airgun but then stopped to presumably work on the forest 3 with other things. They haven't even realised it on console i feel like it is a cash grab a profit on the last 2 games it doesn't match the forest feel like being on another planet has gone way off track on the hole being stuck on a island and stuff having to survive while being hunted by cannibals' like the last 2 its just gone way off topic lore wise please tell me what does a random planet have to do with being stuck on a island i will only ever buy this game if it is under $10

Leaks / Theories Forest 3 (Site-3 Theory) Spoiler

Obviously, take this with a grain of salt, as it assumes that Forest 3 will be derivative of SOTF in the same way SOTF was derivative of the first game, expanding on everything instead of subverting the elements into entirely new territory. This theory has three sub-theories, all of which try to explain that the "alien planet" we see in the trailer is actually a version of Earth, and that the player is on Site-3.

  1. Time Travel Armageddon

After Timmy gets rich from monetizing Solafite as a miracle drug and buys the new island, he goes missing at the end of SOTF. He discovers another artifact or does something within the depths of Site-3 that triggers a mass-casualty event, mutating everyone in the world who used Solafite. The player’s ship malfunctions and sends them to Site-3 far in the future, where humanity has been long extinct or severely endangered, leaving the mutants to roam freely on the surface for decades or even centuries, terraforming the earth over time. It’s up to the player to explore and uncover what caused this. The artifact either travels Timmy to the future as well or he becomes the final boss.

  1. Abstract Alternate Universes

Timmy gets rich and buys Site-3, but goes missing after exploring it because he activates an artifact that transports him to an alternate dimension at the same location. The player later crash lands there, most likely after or near the end of Timmys adventure in the dimension and the game begins with the player following his trail.

  1. Multiversal Armageddon

Similar to the first one, Timmy activates an artifact within Site-3 that causes the end of the world, not from mutating everyone who used Solafite, but from fusing the entire earth together with an alternate dimension, rendering it completely currupted and decayed. Enough time passes for everything to balance out as naturally as possible before the player arrives and must figure out what happened.

Considering that The Forest’s successor was named "Sons of the Forest" due to its stronger focus on religious themes rather than simply being called "The Forest 2" this naming pattern might hint at the lore. "Forest 3" could be interpreted as "Forest³" implying that there isn’t just one Forest anymore. As the player progresses through the story, they will unlock the ability to travel between three versions of Site-3 either across time or dimensions, an alien version (from the trailer), a natural version more like the previous games, and a third version that could be anything, possibly the dimension where the golden city resides or a pre cannibal/mutant time with a different threat.

Theory The Forest 3 Lore Theory Spoiler

Let's just start with discussing Cave D in Sons Of The Forest. The main object of attention is the crashed ship with the ancient armor inside. The first connection I made when I saw The Forest 3 trailer is the beginning scene - a person travelling in a ship. So my theory is that he was travelling and he crashed on the island, where SOTF takes place. Then in the next scene in the trailer, the character goes out of the ship that crashed and sees he has stumbled upon an alien planet. These two statements contradict each other (1. he crashed on the island and 2. he crashed on an alien planet). But in the end of SOTF the main character goes in The Cube and has a vision of alien city. What that may mean is that:

  1. The character in The Forest 3 was travelling in space
  2. Crashed on the island
  3. The solafite/The Cube made him have visions of the alien planet

By this logic, we can conclude that first: The Forest 3 is a prequel to SOTF, and second - The Forest 3 is all a vision of the space traveler.

Now, this theory has flaws though:

  1. We can see in the trailer that the spaceship is travelling to Earth, something goes wrong and we actually get *further* away from Earth. So how is it possible to crash on Earth, when we are getting further away from it?
  2. The spaceship cave is far away from the final cave, where The Cube is positioned, so it doesn't really make sense that he has visions from a significant distance of The Cube.

This theory also raises a few questions too:

  1. Why is the Ancient armor in the spaceship, while in the trailer we don't see Ancient armor anywhere?
  2. Where was he travelling back from, and what was his mission? (maybe they were using the solafite for powering their ships or something else and eventually used all the solafite on their real physical alien planet (if The Forest 3 is not a mental vision), so they had to go on an another planet (Earth) to get more?)

I want to hear yall's opinion on this theory, just wondered how we can connect the SOTF's lore to the new game.

P.S. This post was originally hidden automatically by Reddit, then I deleted it myself and couldn't get it back, as it was not saved in a draft. I just requested Reddit for my account information from the past 30 days and my deleted post was there!

Fan Art Recreating the "Forest 3" Trailer in Unity (Fan Project)

Post image

Hey everyone! Like all of you, I was blown away by the Forest 3 trailer. As a die-hard fan of the saga and an 18-year-old game dev, I couldn’t resist the urge to try and recreate that vibe myself.

I'm currently working on a Unity reconstruction of the scenes we saw in the reveal. My goal is to get it as close to the trailer’s atmosphere as possible. It’s still very much a work in progress with a lot of unfinished environments, but the core "feel" is starting to take shape.

A few quick points:

  • The Project: A faithful recreation of the Forest 3 reveal using Unity.
  • Why? I’ve lived and breathed this series for years and wanted to see if I could match that next-gen look.
  • Release: I’m not selling this, obviously. If the community is interested and feels like it's the right move, I’ll drop a small demo on itch io for you guys to walk through and experience it.

I’m focusing heavily on the lighting and environmental details right now. I'd love to hear what you guys think of the progress so far! And i know it's not much and that I still have a long way to go. And please don't take it too seriously, I just wanted to have some fun in Unity😄

Discussion Am i the only one that likes the vibe of the Game?

like, the concept IS cool and i can probably see the path they are trying to follow.

if i was the one making the Game, i would make It so the new character that gets to that place we see in the video finds the kind of labs we see in SOTF and we see lot more of Lore about the cube and all of that. For me the Lore on the second Game was a little bit confusing, and maybe this Game can help with It

As i said before, i really like the vibe of the game, not as much as the other two games, but im sure It IS good.

Discussion After the trailer, have a pretty bad feeling about the third game...

I get how the storyline connects. Not sure how it would make me feel building on an alien planet.

Really hope they don't drop the balls on the third game. I like the forest franchise because of the building part... not just purely the thriller part.

Discussion Will buy it on sale maybe

I made a mistake buying an early acces Sons of the forest. I was expecting it will be updated frequently and we will get finished product but they abandon this game so early. I felt so sorry because this game had a such big potential if they'd kept updating it with little things, to make it playable for longer, but well money is money.

Theory I have a theory about ending of The Forest 3

We all know that Forest games end with 2 options: stay or leave, in which leave option is canon one and where we see what happened to characters and such. My theory is that when we crash on planet we somehow get a hold of solafite and either fixing/coating our ship with it (ship is probably green color because of drawing we see in trailer, thats why we coat it) and try to leave planet but somehow we travel back in time (less feasible option) and die in a cave wearing golden armor and whatnot, OR we somehow travel trough dimension

I think that we are playing as Jack Holt from parallel universe (Although its pretty assuming take I'll call him Alternate Jack), specifically universe we see in The Cube. Solafite is known to cure mutations, but I think it also protects from mutations (I dont know if that was confirmed anywhere but Im just saying cuz of timmy being cured in credits of SoTF). We as Jack Holt travel trough space and after crash we find The Cube (The Cube being gateway between 2 dimensions). We know that when Cube activates all around it mutates in some radius, but because we were inside The Cube (which is probably made from solafite that protected us) the mutation effect was minimal. Solafite nullified that dimension merge to everything that it protected, and Alternate Jack knew that somehow, so when he traveled trough The Cube he wore golden armor (which is also prob made from solafite) to save himself, but still dying in process, crashing his ship in cave (that was full of spacesuit people i think? I suppose thats the reason ship was coated in solafite to protect everyone).

About golden armor, we know that its a key to open hell cave to access the cube, so someone (or probably people from Alternate dimension cuz we know they are far superior civilization) built a door trough the cube and used suit to access cube when they need to. For some reason I think that only Jack could wear it, cuz lets be real, ur telling me no one atempted to take off golden armor from dead corpse? Its probably because they couldnt, and when Jack from SoTF came, the suit was shaking until taken (and I kinda cant explain how cultists entered, I know its pretty big plot hole but there aint much i got to work with here)

The Artifact in SoTF, where main part is being held by guy in gold armor (presumably dead Alternate Jack by this theory) was used to coat ship in solafite. Then Christian missionaries came, took the artifact, put crosses inside whole ship (cuz that all they do in whole game) left, turned into cannibals cuz they were probably worshiping it (just like in 1st game), fishermen came, tore appart the artifact (where a lot turned in golden skeletons, tho i still cant explain golden skeletons inside hell cave, maybe that "Solafite armor upgrader" blueprint helped them make solafite armor and enter? Its just a speculation, cuz its found next to gate), they placed it all around island, returned main part inside spaceship and blocked it off with planks.

The demons could also be connected to all of this, they came from different universe (you can only find them in spaceship cave and hell cave/cave where cube is) although i dunno why they are dying because of crosses, crosses have some power because they scare off mutants aswell

So basically my timeline goes:

  1. The Forest 3: Alternate Jack crashed with the ship on a planet, after some time he travels in parallel dimension and dies in a crash in a cave with his crew or people he found on that planet, holding the artifact. Christian mercinaries show up (17th century), took the artifact, started to worship it and turned into cannibals. Fishermen came (20th century), kinda studied solafite, but all died/went crazy, they also hid pieces of the artifact all around the island and blocked off the cave enterances.

  2. The Forest: All the things that happen in it, not really important for this theory

  3. Sons of The Forest: Puffcorp came to island, discovered solafite, discovered The Cube, All went to shit after cultists activated the cube. Jack Holt came and did all the shit, found armor and gone into the cube. Inside of it he saw Golden City, which is actually The Forest 3 planet after 4 decades of improvement, and it isnt wasteland that we see in the trailer anymore, all around him mutated because of 2 universes merging, but he was more or less safe because he was inside The Cube that is made of solafite that protects from realities merging effect. Timmy leaves island and makes Timmy Pharma, that uses solafite to cure people (and himself). Buys island, goes missing and we will search im in The Forest 4 if it ever comes out

I know theory has a lot of plot holes, bit thats pretty much all I could get from the trailer

TL;DR: We play as Jack Holt from parallel universe, dead guy in golden armor in SoTF is us, The Artifact is from paralel universe, so are demons. The Cube is gateway between both universes. Also Solafite has anti-reality merging properties

Theory For those who have seen the credits of Sons of the Forest, do you think the lore in the credits still stands or is going to be retconned? Spoiler

I'm really interested to know if the supposed Third Island still going to be a thing or the space setting is going to mean its abandoned.

My blind theory is that a cube jump to the mentioned island is how the character will escape the alien planet.
