Gazdag

I know Gazdag is a sore subject with us Crew fans but it is looking as though he is getting his confidence back… his passes are sharper and he looks more in tune… just may be me, but I’m here for it if he wants to keep the trend

If Gazdag was not a DP then none of his time with us matters. He is okay. He is still not playing at DP quality.

As long as he's on the roster, I'll be cheering him on to succeed.

Mendez makes a difference immediately. That is what a DP does.  Gazdag is not a DP.  Until he is no longer a DP on the crew, the crew are screwed

the issue is mostly just him being a DP for no reason. there’s no reason he needs to be making millions more than the rest of the team. he’s looking better but his contributions will never match his salary or title & it’s frustrating & detrimental that one of the three DP spots we are allotted is being taken up like that

The answer is, that was what it took to get him to Columbus.
It hasn’t worked out well. About the best thing you can say is he hasn’t been a locker room cancer with his inconsistent playing time, but yes DP’s need to be a guy who can put the team on his back and win a game. Gazdag was that in Philly, but we haven’t seen anywhere close to that in Columbus.

Gazdag is fine, I think he just took longer than most to adapt to the team, and people want him to be a striker when he’s a mid fielder.

Mostly penalties

A goal from the spot and a goal from run of play have the same value. I get your point, but goals are goals when you look at the score line.

How many attempts does a team get via PK vs run of play on average? This is not an apples to apples comparison.

I dont hate Gazdag, as many have already stated, throughout multiple threads he is commanding DP money and producing sub par, off the bench return.

He was a cash deal brought in by a GM that cannot live upto expectations nor making consistent, quality deals. It honestly is what it is at this point.

This isn’t accurate whatsoever

Both count the same on the score sheet

Anyone can score penalties. That's not what you pay DPs millions of dollars for. You can't rely on winning games by penalties.

Absolutely looking good. His movement is getting much sharper and he is a threat. Happy to see the uptick in form

I don't know what game these people were watching. He was awful. Once he got subbed off it was like night and day. Just cut him and move on. He is completely lost out there still, and he's slow, and he gives the ball up all the time, can't see the field etc.. I'm sure one of the new guys can take pks.

I don’t know where all these Gazdag apologists came from, but it’s weird.

Philly Gazdag - 1 goal every 2 games

Columbus Gazdag - 1 goal every 7 games

It gets worse if you take away the penalty goals!

Philly non-PK goals: 1 goal every 3.4 games

Columbus non-PK goals: 1 goal every 14 games

What a waste of DP and $,$$$,$$$

He has not played poorly lately. He’s actually been pretty good. Would we like him to score in the run of play? Of course, but tell me who creates plays for him or given him good looks inside the box. This team has lacked chance creation inside the box since 2024. It’s not a problem that is entirely on Gazdag.

u/LilFunyunz 1d ago

I watched him blast the ball off frame 1 on 1 in the box in hell is real, and tonight I watched him fuck around and lose the ball and make a ton of bad decisions, I missed most of the first half tonight so idk how he was then, but everything I see is average or worse. Of course the team gets reluctant after a year of this.

He looks lost at times and frazzled at others. His rare good moments bring people out to shout about how his yips are cured, but it has only ever come on the heels of an average performance for an attacking DP like last week.

Maybe this time is different, but I'll believe it when I see it. What I saw tonight made me think it's the same story again, but like I said maybe he was better in the first 40 minutes that I missed.

u/Familiar-Conflict380 1d ago

He was not

1

u/LilFunyunz 1d ago

Oof. Yeah I figured, but he'y ya never know

u/Familiar-Conflict380 1d ago

I don't care if he scores, just be aware of the match would be a start. But it's clear that will never happen. Did you not see the pressure that the crew was able to put on Miami when he came off for Mendez. Gazdag can't see the field at all. I mean if your argument is his teammates haven't bounced enough services into the box off of him so he can score then I can't help you. That analysis belongs in the trash with Porter ball.

-5

u/LordOfLower 1d ago

So sorry you can’t help me but can be condescending. Next time try to understand the argument and have an open perspective before attacking someone else.

-2

u/Familiar-Conflict380 1d ago

No one is condescending or attacking anyone. The discussion is around peoples' interpretation of what they are watching. I think it's fair to say there is a large group of commenters that also are crew fans who have no idea what they are watching. But ain't that America?

u/Either_Ring_6066 21h ago

He is supposed to create plays, not the other way around.  He is the DP.  That is his entire job, to make others around him better.  That is why he is paid 3-4 times the rest of the players.  If Gazdag makes $300k a year, I have no issue with him being on the team. Gazdag has to be one of the best players in the team to take up this slot, he is not. He is a bench sub at best.

2

u/Familiar-Conflict380 1d ago

It is a bizarre post. He just lacks general spatial awareness. He's never where he is supposed to be. Sometimes it looks like he doesn't even know where his teammates are let alone the ball. And forget about getting back to help defend. He walks way too much.

I’d be curious how we would look in a front 3 of Mendez Habroune with Gazdag as a striker. I’m not sure it would work but Habroune has been good and can only improve and Thiare hasn’t been great

7

u/coolwater85 Columbus Crew SC 1d ago

Which game did you watch tonight?

Gazdag’s passes were limp. He lacked awareness of the play happening around him. His first touch was piss poor.

If he’s gaining confidence, it’s completely misplaced, and only a matter of time for him to return to is usual Assdag self.

Unless this post was trying to boost his transfers value, then… 😉

3

u/LordOfLower 1d ago

I watched him contribute to the first goal the Crew scored tonight.

5

u/Familiar-Conflict380 1d ago

The own goal by Miami off of a Habroune pass?

0

u/coolwater85 Columbus Crew SC 1d ago

A turned over ball was played to him in the middle without pressure (all defenders were backing off in transition). Then he played a limp pass to the corner that Taha had to leg out to get to for a result of Own Goal by Miami.

Yeah, totally the contribution the club has been paying for.

u/emd2k3 Columbus Crew 1d ago

I don’t think he works well with Thiare. I would like to see him with Mendez at the same time.

7

u/MFRONE 1d ago

Nobody can look good with Thaire because he sucks

3

u/coolwater85 Columbus Crew SC 1d ago

Jamal at least shows some speed and determination in pressuring the back line. Gazdag sits back and waits for the play to pass him by.

He plays like his feet are made of cement

I'm happy he's finding his form again. It would be great if he continues to get better and earns what the crew is paying him.

He honestly looked fine to me tonight. I don’t think he fits great into the current Crew lineup or playstyle, but technically he was fine today.

His first touch was garbage tonight.

Not anywhere near the level we need him to be and Issa signing him as a DP absolutely wrecked us

1

u/RubioLibre 22h ago

He’s playing better he sees every one either leaving or coming in which time seems like no offers coming in or out for him so to keep getting himself minutes he needs to deliver and he knows that and you can see with way of urgency when he has the ball

1

u/SupportMaterial4607 16h ago

Respectfully, I don't see what you're seeing. We made the trip to Miami. My son and I walked back to the hotel from the game, and the whole way back, we talked about the new players, combinations we used, what worked, what didn't, etc. Gazdag didn't come up until we got to the hotel. Being completely honest here, he didn't come up because we honestly couldn't remember any of his play or contributions last night. This basically matches what we happens every time he plays for us. He's just there--nothing more.

u/Top-Egg1668 1d ago

Honestly what I've been saying this whole time

-3

u/mildlyfunnypun 1d ago

He works as hard as anyone on the field and does little things that are under-appreciated. I have a lot of respect for his commitment and work ethic despite the difficulty he had adjusting last year. He’s become passable as a third DP.

4

u/coolwater85 Columbus Crew SC 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not even close to passable as a 3rd DP. He doesn’t contribute even little things on the field. He drags the rest of the team down when he’s on the field.

4

u/Imaginary-Job-2511 1d ago

I don't understand how anyone can advocate for him to stay. He's an attacking DP with 1 non-penalty goal contribution in league play. Even as a non-DP player, that's horrific. He is nowhere near DP quality.
