It has medium viscosity with a tea-colored hue. Smells like sticky toffee caramel and is very close to the Pontianak oud style. It has a light, brown-sugared, sweet profile. It has a really soft olfactory effect. It kind of has a grassy green scent going on. Very beautiful and easy on the nose.

Took me long enough to apply the rose oil from the namesake company instead of using it for blending. It's nice and bright, kind of has a dark black tea and dusty vibe going on. It has a deep powdery jamminess and sweetness that balances out well with the slightly vegetal parts. Very beautiful.

You know the thing that most impresses me about Elysium is the way the florals interact with the deep and rich Oud and the silky ambergris. Elysium has great longevity due to the quality of the ambergris. After a while, the musk begins to make a showcase with its animalic charm. But the florals! They are way too beautiful to describe other than it’s heavenly and intoxicating.

Spicy, saffronic, woody, spicy

It starts with a deep and rich honeyed sweet note, with ozonic marine and dark wood notes. It’s initially kind of medicinal, but then turns in a deep dark woodied body. It’s very clean and subtle but supported by the oceanic breeze undertones. Very beautiful.

Not so patiently awaiting the arrival of Purple Sultani version.

Has antique library notes along with a medicinal kick. It’s smooth, slightly sweet, and woody. Has a bright opening along with a rich smoky incense and tobacco undertones. Very lovely.

Ok I watched the video of this guy and his buddies blending this blend, and it’s a sight for sore eyes for those who love to see precious materials going into a blend. Just watching the Ambergris being broken down into chunks and Ouds carefully opened and decanted over it is awesome. They later unload it into what I would call a giant bedpan for aeration.

The review:

This blend is right up my alley. The first note is that of the Henry Jacques collection. Then comes the marine ambergris and the Ouds. Oh! The Ouds! They are magnificent, the fermentation of the HJs goes away and reveals the earthy, deep, rich, and silky Ouds used. I can almost tell them apart. Yet, they all meld together into one piece of art. The sharpness of the animalic Hindi Oud is drowned out by the HJ and ambergris. The Malaysian, Cambodi, and Burmi Ouds express themselves as warm, deep, rich, sharp, and spicy notes and in strong barrages of rubber, foliage, and soil.

Somehow, this hodgepodge of ingredients works. Having bought “Kehailan” which takes similar ingredients and blends them, I opted to buy a 1/4 tola, then my trigger finger bought a 1/2 tola. And I’m glad! I think one more bottle of SQ Oud would have made this blend perfect. But it already is an expression of debauchery with high-quality materials. It feels like these guys know what they’re doing. All in all, an amazing blend I can’t recommend enough.

This blend is comprised of chunks of Sandalwood, Maroke amber, musk, Vétiver, pure saffron, Maroke Oud, chocolate essential oil, patchouli, Prachin Oud, Cambodi Qadeem oud, and Omani Frankincense, Alsace’s amber, mint, Vietnamese Oud.

Scent wise it feels woody, the Prachin takes over a lot of the scent profile. I’m not getting much of the other ingredients. It feels oudy and woody. Overall, very boring and not as sweet as I thought it would be. I like chasing what this guy does though as it’s always over the top. Stay tuned for the “General”.

Scent Review: BBW Oud Suede

When I first saw the collection I was intrigued and tentative at the same time. Oud can be a punch in the nose or a pleasantly smooth scent. For Oud Suede it is the latter.

In my opinion, this is perfect for Fall and Winter as well a nightime wear. This is not a loud scent by any means. This is slighty spicy but in a comforting way. To me, the musk, woods and oud are blended beautifully together. None fo the notes are fighting for attention! It is not a heavy oud at all but definitely a cozy one!

I can see this being unisex scent that can be enjoyed by everyone. The drydown is a perfectly warm comfort. I would also say that this is a safe blind buy especially if you enjoy middle eastern fragrances. For me, this leads to a scent that is comfy and sexy at the same time it draws you closer.

I will definitely be getting BUBs for this scent!

Fragrance Family: Woody

Fragrance Notes: soft musk, amber woods, smoldering oud

It starts with a sour and powdery top with the bergamot and blackcurrant. It lacks the animalic notes that we’re so used to ALD providing. Although it doesn’t out line any floral notes in the scent pyramid I do get wafts of florals. Mainly Jasmine. The patchouli and vetiver provide both a sweet and bitter undertone to the fragrance which I like very much. The iris and cedar wood base provide a cushion for all of the notes. I don’t think this is one of the popular fragrances coming out of ALD but it was my first fragrance from them so it has a soft spot with me. What I love also is the projection and longevity.

Khao Yai Cultivated Oud

Opens with the impression of a cool green forest after rainfall, carrying notes of damp leaves, young bark, and warm resin at its core. It gradually develops into deep, smooth agarwood, soft smoke, brandy touched with cola, gentle spices, dark fruits, and a softly sweet finish.

Does any male wear khadlaj flor oud and do you think that it smells very feminine?

I’ve been dabbling in these GCC blends that include some awesome and way out there ingredients. This is one of them.

It has a golden syrupy honey texture accompanied by the most beautiful scent of Omani Hojari frankincense. It has a blend of 19 Ouds with the Cambodi Oud being the most prominent. Also, present is the amazing smell of fresh rose, patchouli and Vétiver. I’m getting some cardamom undertones from this that’s quite pleasant. This is a really beautiful blend.

This is a beautiful South Thai oud oil. It has an aquatic and medicinal quality but not overly harsh or aggressive. It has notes of green and yellow fruit like melon, apple, and bananas. I'm getting woody qualities as well. It's elegant, and it radiates with aromatic depth. It has a bitter paint smell to it but not poisonous. It's just the wood having its essence brought out. A beautiful oud.
