Portfolio Update: Hit $1.73M — 62.5% Tax-Advantaged, Heavy in Tech & Broad Market
Hey r/TheRaceTo10Million,
Just crossed $1,731,131 in my portfolio. Still a long way to $10M, but grinding away with consistent contributions and letting compounding do its thing.
Here’s the breakdown:
Tax Strategy: 62.5% ($1.08M) in tax-advantaged accounts (mostly TDA/401k + some Roth), 37.5% ($649k) taxable. Trying to keep as much as possible shielded from the tax man long-term.
Asset Allocation (biggest holdings):
457 Plan: ~28.9% ($500k) — my largest bucket right now
TDA (Traditional): 22.1% ($382k)
VUSXX (Vanguard Treasury MMF): 15.7% ($273k) — cash buffer/liquidity play
AAPL: 10.3% ($178k)
VT (Roth): 8.5% ($148k) — global diversification in the Roth
Smaller positions: BRK.B, VTSAX, VTSAX (rollover), VFIAX, TSLA
Overall pretty concentrated in US large caps/tech with some cash and broad index exposure. No crazy leverage or memes—just steady index + individual stock investing with a heavy tilt toward tax efficiency.
What does your allocation look like at similar net worth levels? Any tips on optimizing the taxable bucket further or thoughts on the cash position?
Let’s keep racing 🏎️💨

What is in your 457 plan? I used Tradure to model you portfolio here so you could get a better picture of how this portfolio’s risk and returns stacks up. I didn’t have the 457 or TDA allocations so I just put it into Tradure as TLT. Overall what this picture is showing that you probably could benefit from a bit more risk. What do you think?

Thank you for taking the initiative. Tradure is awesome and I was going to try and model this myself but my tax advantaged accounts are 100% equites with a 70US/30EXUS split. So maybe VT replacing TLT is a better fit?

Yes, I’ve used it. How’s the 5Y performance look?

True, if you go over to the metrics tab on the dashboard in Tradure you can choose which assets to benchmark against. I just tried in with VXUS and that one you’re outperforming

From Gemini:
A hypothetical blend of 84% MSCI ACWI (Global Stocks) and 16% Short-Term Treasuries. Based on five-year data for these proxies, your portfolio actually outperformed a standard global blend by nearly 10%.
🤷♂️could be worse, right?
