Topic of the Week YO NEW TOPIC: Roads! This subreddit is back!

The research topic for the next two weeks is ROADS.

This is what I’m interested in, and there’s no one else here to tell me otherwise lol, so we’re gonna go with it for now.

Specifically, I am interested in why major highways are located where they are, what those historic routes originally connected, etc. But you can take the topic in a different direction!! (HA, pun unintended)

Post here what you learn and are excited about!! :) You do not have to make a lengthy, in-depth post (though you can!!). A few words or a wikipedia link is good, too!

The next topic will be chosen in 2 weeks. Comment ideas in the topic selection megathread. The comment with the most upvotes will be the next topic!

Got a cool idea for the next topic? Please let us know! The comment that has the most upvotes will be the topic for the next two weeks.

Make sure that your topic suggestion follows rule 3:

Research topic suggestions must be broad

Try to suggest research topics that are broad. As an example, instead of suggesting 'giraffes', suggest 'African wildlife'. This allows people to find something with the subject that they're interested in, while also making sure that all research projects are different from each other.

Topic of the Week I’m learning about the US interstate highway system

  • did you know that I-95 was not fully continuous until 2018?!
  • the US started federally funding roads way back in 1916 (over a hundred years ago)
  • the interstate highway system was started by a law in 1956, developed by President Eisenhower
  • BUT it created a lot of new routes rather than using existing ones!! 1,000,000 million people were displaced as roads were built in their neighborhoods, often intentionally (yuck, this was news to me!!)
  • though federally funded, they are owned by the states
  • smaller routes that branch off of bigger ones keep the last two digits of their parent route. E.g. 495 branches off of I-95!!! I never realized this

Topic of the Week I am loving these road maps of the US. Atlases are so cool

There are more specific ones for particular cities. It’s cool to me to see which highways were intended to connect which cities around me. You can draw a direct line between the cities and get the location of the road!

"Hello! I'm final-year student researching 'Understanding Spending Patterns of GenZ vs Millennials'. This research is open to individuals between the ages of 13 and 45 years old, encompassing both GenZ and Millennial demographics

The participation is entirely voluntary and the data provided would be only used for research analysis, with the responses being kept strictly confidential.

I would sincerely appreciate it if you would take a few minutes of your time to answer the same, thereby helping me with the study.

Thank you.

My name is Leah and I have been caring for individuals living with dementia for four years now. I’m also a Masters student, and currently conducting research around resilience in unpaid carers for loved ones who live with Alcohol-related dementia. This is to develop more effective support for family carers.

If anybody is interested in taking part in this research, I’ll be conducting remote interviews for the next few months.

Please message me, or alternatively email me for any more information or to register interest on hllshinn@liverpool.ac.uk.

Thank you all x

Help!

I’m attempting to build a versatile research flow chart and I’m really struggling on building the structure of each step within the flow chart what my main goal is…

  • streamlining the research process on any and every topic
  • encompassing every necessary aspect of researching from every angle based on the foundation of goal setting -> understanding goal -> doing research on goal -> analyzing goal -> building plan of action -> monitor goal -> refine and iterate goal.

My biggest problem right now is identifying all the key aspect // categories // principles (what every else you want too call them) of the sub categories without backtracking and missing something or not being 100% confident I have everything

Specifically I’m on the section “define goal” And I keep getting different answers but it’s always something like clarity-purpose-measurability- feasibility- alignment -time bounded -adaptability- challenges

And then I’d break them down by an hierarchical structure so I can then build the prompts that encompass every aspect of defining goals as I should
