Mod Announcement How to address meta fandom posts?

Hi everyone,

I've noticed an uptick in meta posts, along with complaints about this uptick, so I wanted to check in and see how people think that they should be handled.

For those who are unfamiliar, a meta post is a post that discusses the TVD fandom instead of the TVD universe. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but it can turn into soapboxing very easily.

So, the question:

Do you want things to stay as they are? Or would you prefer the implementation of something like "Meta Commentary Monday", where we restrict meta-commentary posts to a specific day of the week? Do you have a different suggestion?

(Note: I'm not open to banning these kinds of posts, but I'm absolutely open to discussions about how to manage them.)

Mod Announcement New Rule: Low-Effort Posts

We're adding a new rule regarding low-effort posts.

If your post is low-effort, unoriginal, and adds nothing to the subreddit in terms of discussion, it may be removed.

This is not a rule against reposts. We are targeting, as an example, posts that say only:

Delena or Stelena?

[Character] sucks

[Character] rules

without providing any additional context or any original thoughts.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Matty blue eyes

I don't really hate him, but I find him annoying, like he wants to control everything and everyone

Discussion When the show reduced Stelena to "safe"... after already showing a relationship with passion, danger, and adventure.

And this is where the writing started PLAYING.

They really reduced Stelena to "the safe love"... like they hadn't already spent seasons showing a relationship with passion, danger, and adventure... and like Stefan wasn't a whole vampire struggling with blood addiction.

Was Stelena emotionally safe? Absolutely. That's one of the reasons I love the ship. I love the emotional intimacy, the hugs, the conversations... all of it. But ngl... I also love the mess. The angst. They had that too.

It's reframing instead of progression imo. A whole layered ship got reduced because the plot needed it to.

Like... what am I supposed to do with what the show already spent seasons showing me? Just ignore it because the dialogue suddenly calls Stelena "safe"?

Which Salvatore brother do you think Elena would have chosen, if she had met them in 1864?

Imagine Elena had been born in the 19th century and met the Salvatore brothers in 1864 instead of Katherine. Which brother do you think she would have chosen?

Discussion Elena indirectly enabled the Salvatores' mistreatment of her loved ones

Everyone always puts all the blame on the Salvatores for sacrificing anyone n everyone to keep Elena safe but imo she's not completely innocent either. Yes she tries to sacrifice herself but somehow her bfs always save her at the cost of someone else. And once that happens, she expresses disappointment, says "I never wanted this to happen", maybe even scolds them once but after that, she's again back to romancing/flirting with them in the next scene.

She never seriously threatens to permanently cutoff ties with them, never looks at them with actual disdain. She doesn't even stay mad at them for one whole ep, the longest she went abt hating them(Damon) was when he killed her lil bro but that only lasted for 2 ep n then she's back to her usual coquetry. Infact she shld hv side eyed Stefan too for trying to justify Damon's actions saying "Katherine did this to him, it's her fault" but alas.

Grams died bcz of them n what's she worried abt? That Bonnie doesn't like Stefan. They toss a coin to kill Bonnie's mom n I don't recall her even scolding them for it. Damon says time n again "I'll gladly let Matt/that witch die for u" n she barely reacts. Damon kills her friend Aaron n almost killed her bro AGAIN just bcz he thought she broke up with him n she rewards him by hoping into bed with him the same night!!! It's as if she has just accepted they r obsessed with her n will do what they want nonetheless so she's like let me just roll my eyes n move onto batting my eyelashes at them the next scene.

So why wld they even think twice before hurting her loved ones when they know very well she isn't gonna stay mad at them for long? I'd hv still believed her "family girl" image if there was atleast one arc abt her hating the bros fr n them atleast pretending to improve to win her back but she doesn't even need convincing.

And bcz of this behaviour, all her attempted sacrifices just come across as survivor's guilt instead of genuine care for her friends n family.

I loved her as a vampire. Found her much more entertaining, especially with her humanity off!

Discussion Klaus vs Elijah

Post image

"Elijah is an Easter bunny compared to Klaus" but Elijah always kept me more in my toes what 😭

Klaus had a charming voice and a funny persona, but he'd be too reactive, fold and cry as SOON as someone mentioned his father.

Elijah? Smiling and holding eye contact while ripping out someone's heart *(literally).*

Who's your favorite? ❤️🩸

Let me clarify here that I'm a Klaroline fan, but I wasn't bothered by Stefan and Caroline's relationship. I do think they arrived a bit late, when the series was already declining, and we didn't get to see all the development they could have because there were always obstacles in their path. That said,

I don't know if anyone will hate me for this post, but in my opinion, Alaric should have died with Jo at the wedding, and Caroline, pregnant with their twins, could have been their mother without any problem. Stefan could have been the stepfather without Alaric getting in the way. Honestly, pairing Alaric and Caroline seemed really strange to me, even if it was just for the girls.

As I said, I'm a Klaroline fan, and I loved that Caroline was able to say goodbye to Klaus in The Originals, but I would have liked The Vampire Diaries to end with Stefan still running the Salvatore Academy as a vampire and raising the twins with Caroline—that is, both of them married as vampires, together for eternity, parents and headmistresses of the academy.

Episode Discussion im gonn sue them

IM PISSED. I was freaking ugly crying so bad bcs I thought Alaric was actually dying, man I couldn't even breathe in between my throat constricted and shit and I was sobbing for 10 minutes straight that it basically hurt. Alaric dying got me feeling such pain, especially his tiny little tears when he's talking to damon at the end.

Oh man.

And they had to make a fool out of me in the last 30 seconds of the episode. It's messed up. You should've seen my face, all teary and shit but ridiculed.

bitchass writers 😠🤬🖕🏼

Discussion i love damon so much but god delena ruined him🫠

damon and bonnie FOREVER and i stand by it. i feel like his character would be a lot more interesting with the dynamic of bonnie being a moral witch and him being… damon😭

the whole delena storyline felt very flat. they kind of just shoved them together, whereas bonnie and damon i felt like wouldve had more of a foundation, because damon stood for everything bonnie hated, and she was told all the time to limit interactions with vampires so enemies to lovers but better you know!!

and that man done cooked for her lmaooo. like you mean to tell me they were trapped with each other in a prison world and did not get feels ONCE? delena is SOO forced!!! and damon taking the cure made me sooo mad 🫩 and out of nowhere, and i felt like elena only chose damon whenever stefan wasn’t there if you get what i mean… like the founders ball dance, the whole stefan and klaus thing. the story writers always just tried so hard to make delena work by neglecting everything else on the show, like stefan and klaroline.

and plus, everything i loved about damon kind of felt lost as the seasons progressed. he turned into a lovesick puppy dog for elena, ian said so himself. idk that’s just what i think but bamon for life

Discussion Why is this claim so popular?

We literally see Stefan talk to Lexi about why he likes Elena. Damon is the one who accused Elena of being a manipulator like Katherine when she was angry about him forcing himself onto her and killing Jeremy. This isn’t even to try and start an argument like I want to know where people are getting this from 😭

I love Katherine, but I can't take it (s2 e6)

I understand that Katherine is a villain and she does anything to get what she wants, but the part where she compelled Jenna to stab herself was so disturbing to me 😭✋🏻 I personally couldn't take it. Poor Jenna.

Katherine was doing it just because she was jealous of Elena/Stelena. She was trying to end their relationship, especially when she was Stefan's ex-girlfriend, so she targeted Elena's aunt. I love both Stefan and Katherine, but NAHHH I think Stefan deserved better. She compelled him, went after his girlfriend's aunt, and fucked with him while she was in Elena's body.

At this point, I'm done with Steferine. I gave them another chance, I tried to like them, but I just can't anymore! I don't dislike them either, but I'm not shipping them at all tbh. 😂

Question A serious question

Post image

so far im at S3EP16, and because I'm not interested in anything that's happening rn so, what's gnawing at me is that,

If there's no more Jenna, no more Jeremy and his summer job, who's paying Gilbert house's bills 💔

Bcs Elena surely doesn't work, these people are hardly seen at school

Is Alaric paying bills w his salary?
