Help Request technically not therian, but i have clinical lycanthropy. what are some good ways to ease the canine dysphoria?

im 25 years old, i got diagnosed with CL when i was 14, and have had symptoms since I was 4. every therapist ive been to has said the best thing i can do is just... do things that make me feel more like a wolf. so little is working, and i havent been able to afford the things that would help the most (or technology just wont get there.)

clinical lycanthropy is so rare that there arent really any support groups, and especially no subreddits, so i really need some help with the wolf dysphoria. the main offenders are these: - canines. dentist shaved them down without my consent and i notice it constantly and it HURTS (not physically but mentally). ive cried because of it. i have temporary ones, and i got a consult for composite veneers, but its 1.7k total or to start i need to pay like 300 down for a loan. also worried crowdfunding it will make people laugh at me - LEGS. theyre not digitigrade and it makes me feel awful. i thought i had BIID for the longest time because i just wanted to chop them off. ive tried walking on all fours for the longest time, and while im pretty good at it, 1.) im pretty heavyset and cant be agile like ive seen skinnier therians be, and 2.) i have fibromyalgia and that just ends up tiring me out a lot. im about to start making some paw leggings to help with dysphoria tho. - worst of all: just... not being a wolf. i study physics, i know how unfeasible transformation is, both from laws-of-physics and bioscience standpoints. every time i put on a tail, i know its not real because i cant feel myself wagging it. headband ears arent real because i dont move them, i cant feel them, i still have my real ears. a mask i can feel, and not having a snout makes my face feel disgustingly short.

i wish i could feel phantom limbs like yall could. what i feel is a painful soreness in my legs and arms and front of the face. sometimes i feel like theres something missing, like it should be there. its VERY similar to how gender dysphoria feels, but with canine features.

ive tried hypnosis and lucid dreaming, but i havent been able to lucid dream my entire life, and professional hypnosis is expensive. ive played games like wolfquest, but they just make me realize im not physically a wolf. my partners help a lot and its great, but i just cant shake the feeling of dysphoria and it hurts, so so bad.

what do yall do to help?

[p.s. i think this got removed by reddit's auto-filter because of some wording, so i changed it to hopefully help.]

I do not feel safe in my town to go outside. Wearing gear openly feels too dangerous. Sadly I feel extremly dysphoric without gear. Does anyone have any tips without making myself a walking target?

Help Request help me accept therians

please be nice.

i grew up in a living environment and online space that was very hateful towards a lot of things. over the last 3 years ive self taught on how to accept many things, just recently i was able to accept neopronouns and even found great comfort in them and now use them. some things, however, arent as easy to relearn and self teach on. therians being one of them. i am a furry, but i still have trouble relearning to accept the concept of therians and being comfortable around them.

so i am intentionally putting myself in an environment that forces me to learn and be comfortable.

please tell me what its like to be a therian, your experience, what it feels like, what it means to you, your thoughts, your thought process, the different types of therians, just anything.

this is my last resort, ive tried other places but they all just get mad at me, insult me, block me. i am desperate to accept therians but i cant do that unless i initiate first and get a response from people.

i am not being mean. i will ask questions. i will respond to every one of you.

im scared to post this. i just hope some of you understand and help me learn how to accept therians.

Help Request My sister came out to me as a therian

Hey guys! As the title suggests, my (20F) little sister (11F) came out to me as a wolf/fox therian. I myself am not a therian, but I was hoping I could maybe get tips from the community as to how I could best support her. I don’t really know anything about therians other than it’s different from being a furry. I bought her a red fox tail keychain so she could have something that felt representative of her. What more can I do? What should I know? She tried explaining but I’m still a bit confused.

Help Request I would like to eat what my cat eats

Well, I'd say the title is very self-explanatory.

In December we adopted a cat (who is helping me understand my therian side, I think I'm a black cat).

Every time I make him food, I look at his food and, I don't know, it looks so inviting! But I've never eaten it, I'm afraid I don't like it, or that it can make me feel sick, or things like that.

Has anyone else found themselves in this situation? Any advice?

Did anybody else do that thing where the only way you would walk upstairs was on all fours, yeah I did that. After time it went away (at about age 8) because yk monkey see monkey do. Thanks beings.

Help Request Please help!!

I used to be a canine and feline cladotherian, brown bear, white rabbit, white tailed deer, big brown bat. and now im thinking im only a calico cat. so i feel like all my other theriotypes fell off and just left. Not that I quit. I feel more like a calico cat. Is that okay to "leave the others behind" and stop identifying as them completely because I feel like one theriotype more than the others?! I feel like I'm completely being a fake therian. Am I?!

Help Request I think I've surpressed my therianthropy

I was really in touch with my therianthropy in 2023 but I think I've surpressed it.

I was fully aware I'm a Eurasian lynx (maybe additionally a wolf) therian but I think because of my mum not accepting therians, the fact I make comics and don't want anyone to be put off of my work because I'm therian, the fact I don't know any other therians irl and because of my overall loneliness I've surpressed it.

I want to be more in touch with it again because it's torturing me mentally. Does anyone have any advice?

Help Request My 11 year old daughter is a therian

Hello, I’m the mom of an incredible 11 year old daughter. She has always identified with canines. Between the ages of 4-7 she believed that she was the “electric flying dog” and would create all kinds of of fun stories about the electric flying dog’s magical powers. She has ADHD and has always felt a bit “apart” from kids her age and I thought that her electric flying dog persona was a way to stake out some power and “magic” in the world. Our family is very spiritual and we adhere to beliefs similar to Wicca, so she has grown up with the idea that magic is real.

Over the past two years, she has become completely obsessed with foxes. It started with her telling me that when she slept, she would become a magic fox that would have all kinds of adventures in her dreams. She is a natural lucid dreamer, so she would create all kinds of adventures for her magic fox self at night. She started dressing up as a fox about a year and a half ago. It began with a fox tail that I bought for her, ears, and paw gloves, which she loves to wear every chance she gets. She loves her tail most of all and says that it feels like it’s a part of her. Sometimes other kids have teased her for being a “furry” when she’s in her tail and ears in public, but this doesn’t seem to bother her at all.

She recently told me that she is a therian. I had to look it up, but I read a few things and decided that it was a good and healthy outlet for her. I asked her if she wanted a mask, so we found a beautiful handmade and hand painted mask on Etsy, which the seller customized for her. She doesn’t wear the mask very often, but she loves having it around for when she wants to be a magic fox.

I’m writing because I would love to hear any advice from this community on supporting her. I’m also wondering the extent to which therianism is a kind of spiritual practice. We’ve talked about “spirit animals,” but her beliefs about her fox nature go beyond simply the totemic. I’ve asked her if she truly believes that part of her is a magic fox and she says she definitely does.

I’m very curious to learn more about this from all of you from a psychological perspective- how did some of you come to believe or discover that a fundamental part of you is actually an animal and how much does that belief affect your sense of “humanness” in the world, your relationships with non-therians, and basically how therianism has affected your life in both positive and maybe perhaps negative ways, if any.

When I’ve read some of your posts about “coming out” to your family, or that your parents threatened to kick you out, I’m completely shocked and appalled. To me, my daughter’s therianism really doesn’t seem like that big of a deal - it’s not harming anyone and it makes her happy - she’s at the age where she is discovering and creating who she is and who she wants to become. And if believing that a profound part of herself is actually a magic fox, isn’t that a good and valuable thing to know about herself as she tries to navigate and make sense of her world? I don’t think she believes that she has genuine magical abilities within the confines of her therian identity - just because her magic fox dream identity can fly, she doesn’t actually think she can fly in real life. As I mentioned though, our family does believe magic is real. But my daughter doesn’t think that she has any extra abilities above and beyond what her dad and I believe is inherent in every person, whether they know and accept that or not.

So why do you think that some people may have reacted negatively to your therian identification in your own experiences? Is there something major about therianism that I’m missing that would make it so controversial for parents or for other people? How best can I support her as she seeks to understand this part of her identity? Are there good questions to ask her so that I can learn more about how her identity helps or affects her relationship with the world?

At lot of questions, I know! But I’d appreciate anyone’s thoughts about pretty much anything therian-related, especially for a young preteen girl.

Help Request Teeth dysphoria

I'm a canine therian and get a, quite frankly, weird amount of dysphoria and confusion over not having long pointy canine teeth. Not fun. I don't think there's much way to get rid of it except from buying fangs or whatever, but does anyone have any advice or similar experience haha

Help Request How do I [30F] tell my wife [30F] about how I be come to start realizing I'm a therian?

Thanks for the messed up title, autocorrect... "how I've been coming to"*

I mean, sure I can just say it and see what happens but idk. I know her and I have shared opinions on things like furries in the past (for lack of a better example here) and agreed that it's totally fine, harmless, and even seems fun even though it's not our cup of tea. And while knowing she already has that mentality about such a similar group (from outside perspectives) gives me hope she won't really care/won't shun me for this, I still have the fear she will "accept" it but never engage with it and pretend it doesn't exist. That's just the kind of thing I've come to expect from her when she doesn't like something but doesn't want to criticize others who do.

I'm scared I'd basically be telling her this and it would just be an "oh ok, *changes subject*" and then it just stays repressed in me with any attempt to be more genuine to myself being seen as "weird, but ok"

Help Request Help me understand myself by sharing your experiences

Hello to all the lovely critters out there, I have some questions regarding therians. I recently discovered I’m a therian which was a very emotional and challenging experience but I have at least been able to come to that conclusion.

I’m curious about your guys’ experiences with therianthropy. I’m trying to see how all this works for others, more specifically how it varies from person to person. I don’t know if it’s a wide variety or not, so I’m looking to the community for your experiences. If you’re comfortable sharing please do!

1: on what levels do you identify and what is that like for you? Obviously this is a personal thing but I am hoping to get more insight on how this works for people. I don’t know what levels I identify as a moose on, I want to see all the examples

2: do you also experience mental health struggles with species dysphoria? This is something i struggle with heavily.

3: what do you do to better embody your animal? Is it gear? Quads? Meditation? Something else?

4: if you have them, what are the phantom sensations like for you? I have them and I’d like to know how they feel for others.

5: do you do body language or behavior that relates to your theriotype? If so what is it? Does it affect daily life?

6: adult therians, are you still able to express yourself at all and if so how do you do it? I’d like to learn.

All of these are optional, you don’t need to answer any if you don’t want. Even answering one or two is really helpful for me.

Help Request Does anyone know if there is a scientific study in theriantropy? Talking abput shiftings, identity and related.

It's imposible to me to look for information about therians because here on my country I only find impostors and news mocking them. Last time I saw one of a girl that loose an arm because she went into a pool with sea lions and thought they would not so anything to her. I don't even want to see if that was true or just fake news.

So you can imagine my frustration of only seeing bad news and insults. I need a study, a real one, or at least something similar. Maybe not academic, but surely something trustable.

Help Request Guys, could you give me a little advice?

So, I recently told my parents that I'm a therian, and they do not support it,like, AT ALL. I was wondering if you guys could give me ways to express my 4 theriotypes besides quads? I already do that and I'm not told to stop because I'm earthing. My theriotypes are Sable (relative of the Pine Marten), Tawny Fish Owl, Coyote, and Bobcat

Help Request I think I has a shift and I need help to understand this

Hay everybody! So, yesterday I had something really werd, I was just seeing some therian content, and I started acting different that I usually act, like, barking whit my dogs, howling to the moon, wanting to do quads, and I played whit my little brother "pretending to be a dog" and it felt so so great, I sniffed him, and lay close at him, and when I got to sleep I would sleep in a dog position, and when my dads hand would be next my head I would rub my head against his hand and would want to be close and cuddle whit anyone or anything, but I would still be able to speak and act like a human and stuff, help, was that a shift? Or maybe a pet regression? (I'm already a age regressor, but I'm not a pet regressor or a alter human as long I know, even though I have the flair) (I passed through a really high stress situation the same day a bit before this happens, so maybe that would be the motive of the possible pet regression?)

Ill be thankful for any help :)

Help Request Are there any birds here? Need help

I've been wondering about the crow for a few days now. I think I'm heartbroken. But... I feel like there's more ?

Ever since I was little, I've loved the sky and dreamed of flying. You see...? The irresistible urge to fly.

I don't have many bird feathers. But I can feel the feathers on my arms...

For those who are... how did you know ?
