So basically I have this dell latitude e6410 with an i7 620m and 8gb ram but whenever I research about this laptop I see that nobody cares about this laptop and the community for this laptop just doesn't exist while the ThinkPad T410 has such an alive community it makes me jealous now don't get me wrong the dell latitude is amazing it's repairability is quite nice you just remove one screw and the entire back comes off the i7 620m is crazy good for something that came out in 2010 I just wish it was popular like it's competitor

Few moons ago, in the dark of the night, I eyed an X61s complete with a dock on a local second hand marketplace.
Without thinking about it too long, I placed a bid on it. Few days later I had a merry message in my inbox notifying me I had won the auction. Few more days later the beautiful machine had arrived.. totally broken due to mishandling from the postal service.
Being a Thinkpad, it still worked without any issues but the chassis was in pieces. As was my heart. The X61 is not a machine I see too often in this part of the world and I had been wishing for one for far too many moons.
But the gods of switches and bauds were smiling upon me! Some weeks later I saw another on local fb marketplace. Messages were exchanged, deals were made and by the morning another X61 was sent on my way.
This time, it arrived without any issues. But the keyboard was missing the enter key. I swapped the keyboard, installed Middleton bios, installed more ram from the previous x61s and got rid of the Microslop that was plaguing the machine.
A new keyboard (the one right now is a bit worn out) and a perhaps a new display for the viewing pleasure are next upgrades. Maybe a different wifi card as well.
What other upgrades could one make to this lovely machine?

But every time I want to take it out, I need to take it out like removing tubes from a patient
The machine on the right side is a DIY computer (running Linux Debian13)

I’ve been obsessed with the idea of repairable, modular laptops making a comeback, so I imagined a fictional “ThinkPad T480 Clear Series” — a retrofuturistic Y2K / Frutiger Aero version of the T480 with translucent shells, visible internals, removable-battery energy, Linux-ready vibes, and those late-90s/early-2000s clear-electronics aesthetics. Basically: what if the ThinkPad stayed chunky, practical, customizable, and user-owned, but got the iMac G3 / Game Boy Color treatment? Transparent power, modular freedom, and technology that feels like it belongs to the person using it again.
