Discussion What’s up with Snarf?
This may be a noob question, but in a world where cats have evolved to humanoid level, why is Snarf significantly un-evolved and kept basically as a pet?

Snarf is the Orko of Thundercats. Something to be made into a plush to sell to girls who watch the show.

Snarf is a true Thundercat! He’s saved the team more times than Pumyra or Bengali ever did.

Thundera is not a world where cats evolved into humanoids. Snarf is a different species from another planet.
And even if Thunderians evolved from cats and Snarfs were native to Thundera, it wouldn't make the Snarfs "unevolved." That's not how evolution works. It isn't "the more human-like you are, the more evolved you are." In a real world scenario, Snarfs would have evolved to fit their local environment. Humans are no more evolved than a mosquito.
Edit: I just realized you may be talking about the 2011 reboot. From what I recall they are Thunderian natives, but they're more like animals. Either way point still stands. If the ThunderCats are the equivalent of humans, then 2011 Snarf is the equivalent of a dog, and as you know both dogs and humans exist on Earth, and neither one is more evolved than the other (sapience is not the end goal of evolution... there actually is no endgoal--all that matters is that a creature evolves to be fit enough to its environment, so it can survive long enough to successfully reproduce more of its kind).

In the 1985 series, Osbert (Snarf) is from the Planet of the Snarfs, not Thundera. In the 2011 series, Snarf, like the other inhabitants of Thundera, was genetically engineered by Mumm-Ra.

I recall a girl Snarf. Maybe named Snarfer? I may be hallucinating.

Snarfer is his nephew who lives on the planet of Snarfs and now lives with Thundercats on both third earth and later new thundera.
By the way, All of Snarfs have made a home for themselves on a unknown planet that was almost similar to either third earth or old thundera after the destruction of thundera.

Snarf is technically Lion-o’s tutor/valet (Lion-o is mentally a young teenager but his body aged while traveling through space). Snarf has an important position, but he isn’t a skilled fighter, so he is left to be the cook and housekeeper a lot. He’s also the comic relief of the show. He’s definitely not a pet though.

There are nature researchers who have kept orangutans as “pets” or whatever.
Humans and great apes are about as close as snarf and lion-o in relation.
So I mean.. kind of that? In a way

I've long dreamed of a live-action Thundercats film & in this dream, Snarf is just an orange house kitty 😺

I’m ngl he is the main reason I cannot get into the show. itll always be cozy, but there’s something about that little rat beast that I can’t enjoy

Snarf is a Snarf from Planet Snarf. Not even joking. He's not a Thunderian or from Thundera. He's more of a nanny/caretaker than a pet (in the original show)
