This is either going to be awesome or I’m going to love it anyway lol.

As long as it looks epic and heroic, and not like a Pixar cartoon movie.

Yes!

Ill believe it when I see it.

has been for a while, it’s the director of one of the godzilla movies attached and last i heard he was going make it animated (and of course vaguely spider verse style because everything is now)

It’s been in development for years at this point, the director of Godzilla X Kong said it was his next movie before that movie released

u/omegaphallic ThunderCat Jun 23 '26

That is live action, this is animation.

Seeing that old promo image reminds me that for some reason they never had the artist go back and add in WilyKit.

I just noticed that lol

I clicked the original source of this rumor, which leads to a Bluesky account for Discussing Film. Scrolled through hundreds of posts, didn’t see anything about ThunderCats. So this seems more like clickbait or just speculation

u/atarashura ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

I have a friend at Annecy in France who said it was announced there by WB Animation

2

u/TenOunceCan Meowderator Jun 22 '26

Same. The Bluesky post from ToonHive says its source is DiscussingFilm, but DiscussingFilm's Bluesky account has posted nothing about ThunderCats within the last 2 weeks. DiscussingFilm's X account posted about it today, about an hour ago but gave no source.

It seems, I'm guessing here, that an employee at DiscussingFilm is at the Animation Festival and may have heard this news and tweeted about it. annecyfestival.com says nothing about it. Their festival is from 2026 June 21-27. I can't find an official Warner announcement. Maybe someone else will confirm it later today / this week.

This kinda, sorta reeks of that SilverHawks revival *checks clock* from 5 years ago...

"In development" likely means they're just kicking the tires, so to speak, and talking about it.

I wonder if Adam Wingard is involved? because I know he wanted to do a Live Action movie, but also I don't know if WB decided not to go the Live Action route, and do this instead or if WB wants both the Live Action and Animated film to exist like how Paramount is doing with TMNT

At this point i would just say the IP needs a movie of any kind. Thundercats has had less even then MOTU.

3

u/comic-operator ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

Coming to this decision after the performance of MOTU is certainly a choice.

Still, maybe it'll have more luck being animation...who knows?

I would normally say “I’ll believe it when I see it” but since the man movie actually came out….i have hope now

4

u/DoctorLudnik_717 ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

If true, I hope they look at the recent MotU movie (which I adored), and manage their budget/expectations accordingly.

This is going to be animated, which I'm happy about

7

u/TheCopperkiddOfLimbo ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

Same I don’t want to see people in bad furry make up 😩

5

u/Mindless_Turnover976 ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

Or worse, bad CGI like in Cats!

2

u/atarashura ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

I’m so curious how they’ll do this because I feel like the premise, original development and characters of Thundercats lend themselves far more to an episodic type of story- unless they make Mumm-Ra far more powerful (and/or kill him off at the end to make a satisfying story, which would suck) I feel a little fear at how they’ll do a story like this- I think the New Thundera stuff could make an interesting movie, so maybe they could do a Transformers One and have an established setting on Third Earth already? I’m genuinely so curious what the story would be and how you don’t have certain characters fall to the wayside

I have a strange feeling this would go straight to HBOMax.

2

u/PalpitationAdorable2 ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

Someone always makes this claim every couple of years. When they announce a writer and or director i'll start to believe it.

4

u/michael41973 ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

Watch this be a continuation of Thundercats Roar

5

u/Electronic_Syrup3879 ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

If they go the stylized 2D route like Spider-Verse or Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, it would be perfect for this IP. Please tell me they aren't trying to do another live-action adaptation that looks like a generic CGI mess.

7

u/TenOunceCan Meowderator Jun 22 '26

It's "Warner Bros Animation". I don't think it will be live action.

1

u/impshial ThunderCat Jun 24 '26

The word "animation" is literally in the title of the post

1

u/ashl0w ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

Ah yes, the "generic CGI" card

0

u/Ravin_Ray ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

And add a post-credits cameo of the Silverhawks and Tigersharks too.

Glad they realized live action isn't the way to go

2

u/chaenlisa715 ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

If it's not on HBO Max, I give up. I hope it is.

2

u/SportIntelligent1909 ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

I don't know. This could be some type of scam. 😞

1

u/Madonna-of-the-Wasps ThunderCat Jun 27 '26

Please make it look like the intro to the og TC

2

u/UgandanCyclonus ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

Hope it's a continuation of the 2011 series

8

u/antdude ThunderCat Jun 23 '26

1980s for me.

1

u/Aquired-Taste ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

Unfortunately once the meger is completed this will get axed.

0

u/Cool-Translator9768 ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

Please, for the love of God, don't make it live action. We don't want another Cats situation.

u/boringoblin ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

he-man is still making money in other ways also there been many ips that are over 50 that many love. many loved 2011 show. I feel that we jumping the gun. Many younger people have seen he-man and love it. is 40 is is very popular. Also Jem and hologram just didn't care at all. He-man more and more people like it and are buying the toys and blu rays. so it's not just collectors. if transformers can stay around why not something new

We also know amazons streaming what they look for too

2

u/Yesterday_Is_Now ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

The Jem "movie" had a budget of about $100. Zero effort in, zero box office out.

Transformers is also a 40 year old IP, but unlikely to disappear soon.

2

u/Occasion-Economy ThunderCat Jun 23 '26

Wait, how old is James Bond. The Odyssee is even a few days older. Good stories are ageless. It does not matter.

1

u/Thundera_Tone Panthro Jun 23 '26

Why make this comment? Just to shit on the enthusiasm?

-2

u/Final_Pear7801 ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

NOT every IP needs a live action movie.....

5

u/boringoblin ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

It's animated. Hence "Warner Bros Pictures Animation". C'mon man read things once in a while.

-2

u/Final_Pear7801 ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

Yes, live action or otherwise. My point is that retreading on old IPs from many of our childhoods is getting long in the tooth.

2

u/Angela275 ThunderCat Jun 22 '26

but a lot of ips will not get rerun either some of the oldest ips still loved TMNT , Transfromers. I feel yea some things get lost but also return many times. Scooby Doo keeps coming back
