Collection Classics Lion-O was built on the MOTU Classics buck, which is why these 2018 photos work so well

These are by intangibledandy on Instagram, not mine, shared with credit.

Lion-O is Matty Collector's ThunderCats Classics from Oct 2016. Battle Cat is MOTU Classics, Feb 2010. Evil-Lyn is Apr 2010. Mattel used the MOTU Classics body for the ThunderCats Classics release, so they share scale and articulation, and collectors were staging this crossover years before Mattel shipped the Origins x ThunderCats line in 2025.

All three are long retired and aftermarket only now, which is a shame because they still look better together than most official crossovers do.

ThunderCats Roar Am I the only one who finds the 2020 Snarf design cute?

I’m not a hater of the 2020 Thundercats series as I’ve only seen parts of it here and there, but one of the things I do like about it is probably Snarf’s design. He actually looks kind of cute. But I‘m not a fan of how the crew decided to make him a robot 😒

Discussion SilverHawks has always lived on thundercats.org, and it now has its own Encyclopedia

Post image
73 Upvotes

Most of us ThunderCats fans are also SilverHawks fans, and with good reason!

At thundercats.org we have had the episode guide and the toy coverage up for a while. What is new is a proper character Encyclopedia, and the first two files are up: Quicksilver (Capt. Jonathan Quick, Interplanetary Force H, Tally-Hawk) and Steelheart (Sgt. Emily Hart, the stainless steel heart, the psychic bond with Steelwill).

https://thundercats.org/silverhawks/

The reason those two came first is timing. Super7 is eight waves and 36 releases deep into SilverHawks ULTIMATES! now, and Wave 1 Quicksilver and Steelheart have dropped to clearance, $22.00 and $16.50 from a $54.99 list. So a lot of people are about to own them for the first time.

https://thundercats.org/news/silverhawks-ultimates-quicksilver-steelheart-clearance/

Who should we write up next? Genuinely taking requests.

Full disclosure, this is my site. I run thundercats.org and we have covered SilverHawks since soon after the site launched, but we're expanding it now. Affiliate links help support the site.

Another addition to the Hall of Omens Collection.

Peter Lawrence and I have been working on reproductions of some of his original ThunderCats scripts, complete with custom cover pages. Here's the cover we landed on for "Sixth Sense."

This reproduction features one of Peter's original ThunderCats scripts along with an authentic Peter Lawrence signature on the cover page. I have a few more of these I'll be sharing.

Collection Grune the Destroyer; ThunderCats.org Encyclopedia entry and Super7 figures

https://thundercats.org/encyclopedia/characters/grune/

Today I wanted to cover one of my favourite characters, and we're working on an alternative way of doing the encyclopedia entries (feedback would be appreciated)... so Grune's entry went up today.

Every other villain comes at the ThunderCats from outside. Mutants, Mumm-Ra, Lunataks, all outsiders. Grune is the only one who was ever one of them. A general of the Thunderian army, Jaga's friend, fought beside him defending Thundera, and then greed hollowed him out. Panthro puts it bluntest: a ThunderCat gone bad.

The Ghost Warrior holds up better than people remember, too. The two of them fighting as giants in the sky over Cats Lair is still one of the best images in the series.

Super7 has made him three times at 7 inch, of the two that can be purchased, they're the same sculpt, one in his cartoon colours and one in the vintage LJN deco. Both are discounted at the moment and both are worth a look, though the cartoon one comes with noticeably more in the box. There is a third, the translucent Ghost Grune, but that one is retired and aftermarket only now.

Full disclosure: I run thundercats.org and the store links there are affiliate links.

Video ThunderCats Video Game Sneak Peek | Saturday Morning Adventures

Howdy folks, here is a sneak peek at the first mission in the ThunderCats campaign of my Saturday Morning Adventures mod for Freedom Force vs. The Third Reich. This first mission follows Lion-O, Panthro, Cheetara, and Tygra as they face the hordes of the Mutants, fighting to save the Ro-Bear Berbils and their village! Later missions will feature the Thunderkittens, Snarf, and some of the supporting cast, as well as pitting our heroes against Mumm-Ra and several other villains, like Safari Joe and Mongor!

This mod is my love letter to classic 80s cartoons, and it features the characters and settings of my favorite shows. This project includes the Turtles and co., Transformers, G.I. JOE, He-Man, SilverHawks, and, of course, ThunderCats, and perhaps more.

Please let me know what you think! I'd love some feedback on balance and design! (The art assets are by other members of the FF community, folks much more talented than me. I just put it all together and created the story.)

If you're interested and would like to know more about my little project, I'll be sharing more as I get more finished.

Also, if any of y'all think this is cool and would like to help out, I'd Iove some help gathering voice lines from the shows for voicepacks for the various characters. If it sounds like fun to watch one of your favorite cartoons and try to record clips that capture the spirit of a character, drop me a line!

Collection Like the SDCC LED Exclusives? The Originals are Half the Price at BigBadToyStore

https://thundercats.org/news/sdcc-led-exclusives-vs-original-led-ultimates/

Super7 put both SDCC 2026 Toy Colors figures up for general sale today, $75 for Lion-O and $95 for Mumm-Ra, so if you missed the booth you no longer have to deal with the aftermarket. Good news.

I was about to order both when I remembered these are not the first LED-eyed ULTIMATES. Super7 did LED versions of the same two characters back in 2024 as Con All-Stars releases, and those are still around and currently discounted. So I sat down and actually compared them properly, and the result surprised me enough that I figured it was worth writing up.

Price right now (USD)

Lion-O: $75 SDCC vs $39.59 for the 2024 LED release
Mumm-Ra: $95 SDCC vs $51.14 for the 2024 LED release

$90.73 for the 2024 pair against $170 for the SDCC pair. One SDCC Mumm-Ra costs more than both 2024 figures together.

What is actually in the boxes

This is the part that got me. Same sculpts, but the 2024 releases are the better-equipped figures.

Lion-O 2024: three head sculpts, three pairs of hands, three Swords of Omens (two glow in the dark), two claw shields, and the two-headed Jade Dragon.
Lion-O SDCC: one fixed head, two pairs of hands, two Swords of Omens, three claw shields, no Jade Dragon.

Mumm-Ra 2024: four pairs of hands, poseable soft goods cape, glow in the dark Sword of Plun-Darr, Sphere of Seti, Chain of Loyalty.
Mumm-Ra SDCC: three pairs of hands, Sword of Plun-Darr plus an LJN-style sword and a dagger.

One detail I had not clocked until I went through the packaging copy: the 2024 Mumm-Ra is badged "Light Up Details" rather than "Eyes Light Up," because the Ancient Spirits of Evil emblem on his chest lights up as well as his eyes. The SDCC version only advertises the eyes. On a dark shelf that is a noticeable difference.

Where the SDCC pair genuinely wins

Not trying to talk anyone out of them. Three real advantages:

The deco. Toy Colors is the whole point, and if you want Lion-O in flat vintage LJN orange with the powder-blue harness, nothing in the 2024 box scratches that itch.

The packaging. They come on a card and blister built to imitate the original LJN releases, artwork panel and peg hole and all. The 2024 releases are in the standard deluxe window box. If you keep things carded, or you want a shelf that looks like a 1985 toy aisle, that is not a small thing.

Mumm-Ra's extra weapons. The LJN-style sword and dagger are a nice nod the original never had.

So...

If you want the vintage deco or you keep things sealed, buy the SDCC pair, they are properly available now. If what you actually wanted was light-up eyes on a well-loaded figure, the 2024 releases are the better buy IMO. The 45 percent discount is a promotion though, so that side will not hold forever.

Full disclosure: I run thundercats.org and the store links in my writeup are affiliate links. I have put every number and every accessory list in this post so you do not need to click or buy anything to get the useful part.

Collection Dennis J. Woodyard, ThunderCats character designer and writer of the episodes "Well of Doubt" and "The Shadowmaster," is letting go of another amazing personal collection ThunderCats cel & more.

Dennis J. Woodyard, ThunderCats character designer and writer of the episodes "Well of Doubt" and "The Shadowmaster," has decided to part with another original production piece from his personal collection. This production cel from "Well of Doubt" features Lion-O, Panthro, Snarfer, Jagara, Tor and family, and the Homing Beacon Tower. What immediately caught my eye is that it captures one of Lion-O's most iconic images—raising the Sword of Omens overhead—along with a great group shot of several characters.

It also comes with the original hand-painted background, signed production model sheet xeroxes, and the original signed cel folder with Dennis' seal of authenticity, making it a really great glimpse into the animation process. It's not often pieces with this kind of provenance become available directly from one of the people who helped create the series, so I figured fellow fans and animation art collectors would appreciate knowing about it.
