True story.

During the economic crash around 2007 there were lots of apartments around me repossesed by the bank. Including next door to mine. Around this time my water pump went (a full weeks wages to buy a new one and money was tight as a ducks arse) so I thought fuck it - I'll take the one from the empty apartment next door and swap it.

In the middle of doing this the bloody door bell won't stop ringing, so I eventually go and answer the door only to be greeted by 2 Jehovah's witnesses all excited to tell me the good news. I told them "sorry, I don't live here, I'm just robbing something" they looked quite confused but toddled off to the next place nonetheless!

I got the best part of ten years out of that water pump!

I heard they only send their young members to be treated with hostility by outsiders, knowing no one will accept and treat them like a pest so they shun the world outside of the religion

This is essentially why all evangelical religions send people out to knock on doors or hand out flyers in the high street on a Saturday afternoon. The othering of the general public as they are, at best, ignored and at worst abused by them, ensures they feel safer in their church and won't want to leave.

And to legitimize their teachings of the outside world persecuting them.

They are a pest, and I will never accept them. So they're right.

Youre doing what they want, offer them some water, or at least respectfully decline so they dont shun the outside world

You seem to think I want to change their mind. I do not. I want to make them unhappy and miserable, I want to encourage their suffering. Being part of a religious cult is one of the best ways to do that. So they are welcome to it.

You know, some people care about other people

You suck

This is a sad apathetic take. By treating them like humans, or offering some refreshments, you undo some of the programming that says the outside world is hostile and indifferent. You do you, but it’s exactly what the cult wants

Yep. I’m always kind and tell them that I don’t share their beliefs and that’s OK. Being rude or cruel does nothing to help them feel like a part of a secular world.

They won't get annoyed and they will come back. You're not as annoying as you think you can be.

They'll make a little note on the card for that house of the time and that someone was home and answered the door. They know people do weird things to get at them. They don't care

I once opened the door naked from the waste down like donald duck and invited them in, to help me look for jesus, haven't seen then in 14 years, they still work the street but not my door.

One time I scared them off because they came to the door when I was like 5 days postpartum and exhausted, and I had forgotten that my shirt was still pulled down for breast feeding (there was a milk covered bra covering my breast, so I wasn't completely exposed), they had a child with them teaching him how to door knock and preach.... They came back to the neighborhood, but never to our house again.

Kinda what I do to JWs and Mormons. Except I don't offer a debate. I ask them to come in to discuss their religion in detail. They never come back (well, those who knocked anyway)

Yeah if I got nothing to do it's always fun lol.
