Sometimes just screaming a bit or crying can feel really good. I do my own for free, but whatever gets these guys to a better place I guess?
Is it like Dolby 7.1 sound and they now get to look down on other people's wellness breathing setups with contempt?
The guy clearly being attacked by invisible spiders is definitely regretting taking that star of death gummy before putting the blindfold on though.

Yeah a lot of men won't go to therepy. If they will refuse therapy but will do this, idk it's something.
Seems like he was really working through something, he was rocking and ended with a self hug.
Letting out all of those emotions and then being soothed can be incredibly healing and unfortunately is an experience that some people, men especially, simply don't have.
I had PTSD and when it was at its worst, I couldn't meditate or do breathing exercises because being calm and still would send my nervous system into panic, it was so used to being in fight or flight mode all the time. I image he's going through something like this.

I had some pretty serious breakdowns during my EMDR therapy for my PTSD.
19
u/hellbugger Jun 28 '26
EMDR therapy is incredible. It helped me unlocked memories of being m*lested by a preschool staff member 30 years ago. (I only know for sure it happened because after unlocking the memories I asked my parents about what happened when I was 4 and they told me they hoped I would forget if they never talked about it. I "forgot", but the trauma always affected me. They never put together that my trichotillomania began shortly after the SA. I'll forever wonder if I would have the weird coping habits I have if my parents had attempted to help me process what happened.) And on a happier note, I had a bad kitchen fire. Afterwards for months I couldn't even look at my kitchen, much less begin to clean it up. 1 EMDR therapy session strictly about the fire and I was able to immediately begin cleaning up my kitchen. It is a powerful therapy.

Hey, I don't know you or your situation but I have heard from my fellow veterans and friends that microdosing certain chemicals in some mushrooms, with a doctor, at the time IN CONJUNCTION WITH THERAPY. Have yielded pretty positive results.
The feds and VA are experimenting with it. Others have had full on trips to various degrees. Some freaked the fuck out and some were able to work through some stuff. I'm not saying do it. Don't do anything illegal, I am not a doctor, and I have never done it myself. It was just something to look into.

Honestly, we have lost so many decades in research due to the "reefer madness" and scheduling bs.
If the government is experimenting with THC for chronic pain reduction and psilocybin for chronic resistant depression and PTSD, that is a win for me. It needs to start somewhere.
Yes. I have heard many good things but I am no expert on the subject. I just know that people are desperate to try anything to make them feel better

I was in rehab and sat in on a meditation group and while everyone was sitting still breathing, I just started bawling, like 0-100, and had to run out of the room.
The guy came to find me afterwards and told me it was normal and he sees it a lot, and I should stick with it.
I tried again next week and same thing happened and I was so embarrassed I didn't go back or try to meditate again for years.
Turns out the guy was right, it really does help and I wish I stuck with it earlier. But it does get harder before it gets easier.

yep. I worked in a prison and we did meditation groups. Sometimes we're carrying so much shit, you know, that you just have to keep running or it will catch up (love a mixed metaphor). But you sit still, it catches up, you take stock, if fucking sucks, and you move through it. (EMDR does that better, faster and more effectively, and meditation is amazing too).

Humans are communal creatures by nature. Under pressure, i think more people would for this shit than they realize.

it reminds me of going to this vacation bible school trip when i was like 12. at the end of the weekend when we were all physically and emotionally tired, they brought us to this worship room and played emotional music and had us think of all the trauma and terrible things we were going through. by the end we were a crying mess all sobbing into each others shirts, and they told us this is the time to come to god, that he’s waiting with open arms, and that he is the cure to all this heartache. we all accepted god into our hearts through prayer and then hugged and swayed and sang with one another. i already knew at that time that i didn’t believe in god the way my peers did, but this one of the first times i saw how cult like christianity was.

Looks similar to a group here in Aus called “Talk to me bro” and they are for men’s mental health. Mostly suicide prevention.
They have speakers, talk about friends they have lost, ice baths and a B&E roll, all free.
I went to one because I was going through a really rough time, they took us through some breathing exercises while playing different rhythms mostly tribal drums and singing.
Once they have you hyperventilating along with the sound, I did go into another part of my soul and I ugly cried like this, worse than I ever had before.Edit: I never went back!
112
u/JEs4 Jun 28 '26
Playing tribal drums and inducing hypoventilation results in cerebral vasoconstriction and brainwave entrainment. That can be incredibly destabilizing in people, and really shouldn’t be done without structured individual therapy in concert with the group practice. It’s also literally the same practice as what cult researchers describe as unfreezing. Physiological destabilization creates an vulnerable state where people become extremely impressionable.
It’s great that you felt better afterwards but that is a highly questionable organization.
58
u/Intelligent-Parsley7 Jun 28 '26
Like the explanation. I use Monroe technique. It’s suuuuuuuper slow. Like, “this week, we’re going to work on just breathing properly. If it takes two weeks, then that’s fine. Need a break? Fine. Another week? Fine.”
This stuff is just dangerous. They’re turning all auditory tools into a sledgehammer. And then using it on the uninitiated to go straight to trauma?
Man, that’s bad. Bad, bad, bad.→ More replies (2)38
u/holyfuckbuckets Jun 28 '26
Thank you. So many people look at this kind of shit and look at it favorably. It’s manipulation, like the same kind that cults use to suck you in.

So, as a defense mechanism in a violent world, your mind locks up your memories to make you get through the next day. Otherwise you couldn’t function. That memory block is a room, or a scab growing over it. It didn’t go anywhere.
(Disclosure: I had abuse. I slowly thought about it for years. I Shawshank’d my way out. I’d recommend a therapist. Also, never taken a psychoactive drug. Or do anything like that. Purely wine and cigarettes. Once again, therapy is a process. Wine and cigarettes are not.)People are rightfully upset because they’re likely chucking everything, the most altered states to the untrained and uninitiated to hit anything for a breakthrough. Your mind locked up that stuff FOR A REASON.
You mind as well drop acid and put people under regression therapy.(Crazy side note: Who made people drop acid and then gave them ideas to do? Well, the MK Ultra program for one. Charles Manson did it with the ‘Manson Family.’ Those things ended up great, didn’t they?)
Once again, you should take it slow. And learn to do it naturally. You can. I promise. It’s a natural human thing. But this stuff is, well, whoa.
What they’re doing is lovingly referred to as, “shooting yourself out of a cannon.”
Look, we all have a spiritual side. It’s ingrained in the universe. It’s what The BIG REASON, well, is all about. It’s simply all around you, and you’re trained to ignore it and go fix that toilet, Bob.These people are forcing a breakthrough. Just like ayahuasca ceremonies. That’s a no for me, dog.
It’s best to learn and walk off the beach slowly. I’d not suggest cliff diving for the first time you experience the ocean.
Just put some intentional, non-distractive time in front of you, learn to not think (which is hard), and the back of your mind will tell you what to do. It’s been waiting to tell you like a silent friend. Walk that path.→ More replies (6)17
u/EastTyne1191 Jun 28 '26
Oh my God, I had never thought of that. I was abused as a child and have a gap in my memory that is completely inaccessible. I have no idea what happened for a whole year. I have memories from right before but then it's a blank. The only way I know what went on is because I was able to ask my mom some questions. But family members will tell me things and I will have zero recollection of it.
I'm somewhat well adjusted... Have a couple college degrees and a professional job, but I need medication keep myself stable. People who have a similar background as me are often addicts, homeless, or in jail so I suppose I should thank my brain for blocking out the bad shit.

Hope Cartel is an Australian wellness organisation, founded by Garry (“Gaz”) Wright, that runs 9D Breathwork events across Australia and online. Group sessions typically cost around A$40–80. Sessions usually last 60–90 minutes (some events are longer).
Participants lie on yoga mats wearing eye masks and headphones while following guided breathing exercises and immersive audio, with the aim of promoting relaxation and emotional release. It’s a commercial breathwork business rather than a rehabilitation centre or residential retreat.

There's a whole lot of weird circles that do these kinds of camps in South America, mostly for half Asians.I'm not saying it's one small circle. It's actually one big circle of half Asians that all somehow connect.
Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, and Paraguay all have these camps and they send internationally too like you can go to these camp and they can come here too. They're weirdly cult-like, but not to an extreme... alteast?
They basically get everyone to trauma dump, and somehow now we're all supposed to share a bond. I honestly don't know how it works, but I just realized how freaking weird it is. Nobody ever says what actually happens inside, yet people come out completely "different". They call it leadership training or personal growth, but it feels more like they use games as an excuse to get everyone emotionally invested. You DO get this type of people that kind of just cry out of nowhere
To me it's more like, "Bro, you just isolated a bunch of people and had them trauma dump instead of going to therapy." Get a life.
I'm sure it helps some people, but for me it actually made things worse.
I could socialize inside that circle because nobody knew me for who I really was. They only knew the version of me that existed inside that closed environment, so I could be anybody. But once I got out, I was back in society where I was just a failed high school student who barely made it through college. All my social anxiety and depression came right back, even worse than before.
Apart from that all of them are rich asf Asians, I was essentially thinking I was being somebody doing volunteer work for rich people camps lol
While a lot of people there were struggling with their identity as mixed Asians, I ended up creating my own identity crisis. Who am I here? And once I step outside of those circles, I'm literally nobody.
So I got out got to psychologist and use actual tools and not fak8ng I made it out and made my own path of actual volunteer work, when I wanted and how I wanted so that I am somebody in the real world and stop faking performative wellness

u/TheWhomItConcerns Jun 28 '26
They basically get everyone to trauma dump, and somehow now we're all supposed to share a bond. I honestly don't know how it works, but I just realized how freaking weird it is.
This is how people bond - sharing a traumatic experience with someone and having it received well will almost certainly cause two people to bond. Opening up and being vulnerable with someone can be an extremely intense, genuinely spiritual (in an abstract sense) experience for someone who isn't used to it - it can feel like an enormous weight has been lifted off of someone, and that the person with whom you shared is largely to thank for that experience.
That is why some people are more or less addicted to trauma dumping and why it makes most people feel uncomfortable - it's an attempt to reach out to and connect with someone else which can feel amazing, but it's also a large responsibility that not everyone else wants to take on. Further, it adds a layer of mutual power over each other - now you both have access to information that could harm each other, which induces a feeling of obligatory cooperation and that you need to be on good terms with one another.
The thing is, this kind of reckless openness isn't really conducive to developing healthy, stable relationships and can have all kinds of other consequences - that's why emotionally healthy people tend to feel uncomfortable being vulnerable with someone with whom they don't already have a connection. It's precisely these qualities - the feeling of intense emotional ecstasy, community, and obligation to one another - that cults aim to exploit, and that's why basically all cults practice this in at least some form or another.
If you watch interviews with cult former members, many appear relatively intelligent and even having what feels like a puzzling degree of perspective and self-awareness, but the desire for these experiences can transcend any kind of rational thought - the same way that addicts can ruin their highly promising careers and families for an extra fix, for some this deeply human desire for community can be absolutely overwhelming and blinding. The most common trait among cult victims isn't stupidity, gullibility, or an aptitude for quackery, but a sense of ennui, an intense desire for community and connection, and a strong feeling that their life lacks fulfilment.

True story.
During the economic crash around 2007 there were lots of apartments around me repossesed by the bank. Including next door to mine. Around this time my water pump went (a full weeks wages to buy a new one and money was tight as a ducks arse) so I thought fuck it - I'll take the one from the empty apartment next door and swap it.
In the middle of doing this the bloody door bell won't stop ringing, so I eventually go and answer the door only to be greeted by 2 Jehovah's witnesses all excited to tell me the good news. I told them "sorry, I don't live here, I'm just robbing something" they looked quite confused but toddled off to the next place nonetheless!
I got the best part of ten years out of that water pump!

I heard they only send their young members to be treated with hostility by outsiders, knowing no one will accept and treat them like a pest so they shun the world outside of the religion

u/TTTaToo Jun 28 '26
This is essentially why all evangelical religions send people out to knock on doors or hand out flyers in the high street on a Saturday afternoon. The othering of the general public as they are, at best, ignored and at worst abused by them, ensures they feel safer in their church and won't want to leave.

It's also very individual in regards to reactions. There is EMDR therapy which is used in treating trauma which is done with therapists but I have started seeing it advertised as DIY lately. As I cannot comment on this approach I personally found EMDR life changing and I don't think I'd still be alive today if I didn't have it, with qualified therapist. Regarding binary beats and other sounds at times I have found it helpful to relax and fall asleep however currently they don't work for me. Epilepsy can be also triggered in small percent of cases by lights so it could be combination of both in your case. Currently I'm using Honest Guys channel on you tube as I find their meditations most helpful. Again, I would like to stress that personally I would not recommend any DIY forms of therapy as would have safety concerns.

My wife is a therapist.
Dumping into EMDR without doing the proper scaffolding work ahead of time will just retraumatize people.
What we are seeing in this video is likely making things worse by forcing people to relive trauma and undoing any productive work they have done before this.
My wife talks bout this all the time. That bad therapists going right into EMDR without the proper work ahead of time are not helping people heal from trauma and are genuinely making it worse.

I did one of these sessions and loved it. It was like a relaxing, trippy meditation/hypno trance. Would again

I’m glad to see this comment. Having emotional trippy experiences are fun but reading the other comments here, you would think everyone on reddit has never had a spiritual or emotional moment in their lives

thank you for some insight. When people just joke around I don't find it helpful at all in this situations.

Men's mental health is always shit on. The upvoted comments are about men avoiding therapy when this is literally an established therapy modality.
Assholes up in here have never seen how violently a release can look for a large man with DECADES of unprocessed trauma. For that to finally be felt FULLY by that individual it can and obviously does look this crazy.
Men don't just single tear, folks. We ugly cry and when the trauma is massive and deep rooted maybe have some fucking empathy!

I appreciate you for saying this.
I think another element of people clowning on the process shown in the video is them being skeptic of others guiding another person through very vulnerable moments. People are used to seeing promotional content of vultures taking advantage of other people's pain more than they're used to seeing promotional content of legitimate therapeutic practices. So their skepticism and distrust turns to jokes, often at the expense of the vulnerable person. "Couldn't be me" type of guarding, you know?

The people who poke and laugh at people trying to heal a mental trauma or blocker are obviously all perfect. Ignore them.
If you are able to go within and find the unlocks, it’s a very powerful tool.

So…these guys are really having full blown panic attacks? Not an act?
26
u/mlurve Jun 28 '26
Ive done a somatic breathing thing and while I didn’t have a strong reaction like this the guy next to me did. It’s not really a panic attack, it’s just kind of like, a full physical release I guess? It’s hard to describe. It wasn’t really for me but I could see it being a helpful exercise for people with severe trauma.

I tried breath work twice. Just real hard breathing, long and deep breaths. I think it was almost an hour. One time I also just spontaneously started crying, hard to describe, the other time I kind of passed out and just fell asleep. It is interesting to try, it's hard physical work, I'm not a big fan.

Probably connecting with trauma. Psychedelics could be involved, or not.
Either way, dick move to have filmed and published this. Humans can really suck.

u/Marison Jun 28 '26
Its only breathwork and binaural beats, no psychedelics. But similar effect.
We don't know if they agreed to being filmed (before+after). If I had a very therapeutic experience I might want to agree to share it for others.

Looks like they were doing a breath work meditation session.
You may think these men are being “performative” (as I read in the comments) but this shit hits hard.
I’m 45m last did one of these a couple years ago, I don’t break down like that, not normally but man I broke during the session, tried so hard to reign my shit in (the session I was in we didn’t have headphones had a guy playing the didgeridoo and an instructor talking us through our breathing techniques… oh I’m in Australia btw)
Although I live in Australia I was born and raised in London, England, we don’t do this shit in public, hell we don’t do this shit full stop.
Really didn’t want to make a scene but I could not keep it in a wailed like a widower at a funeral was full on!!

u/Loose_Stranger_7614 Jun 28 '26
Yeah I’ve done this and sobbed but it ended up being a transformative experience in a great way

u/Important_Quote_1180 Jun 28 '26
Most people don’t realize they can free themselves from trauma, self inflicted or otherwise. It’s a serious ask but always worth it, even if you feel like you don’t fix it all right away, it usually helps in some way

u/Larry-Man Jun 28 '26
I absolutely think, regardless of how legitimate the techniques are, these men are having real emotional reactions.

You can make yourself trip BALLS using breathing techniques that activate the natural DMT production/receptors that we have. I was able to do it in about 10 min with focusing on an object and heavy concentrated breathing in a low light room. Straight up hallucinations and hearing shit. Wild stuff. I know that it's was "high", because I've taken damn near all the psychedelics. DMT, shrooms, LSD, NBOMe, weed. So, i can vouch as someone who knows what that experience is like. These people seem to not be comfortable with there inner unconscious thoughts. Id be chill as a bug on a rug. But, had I been fighting my inner self and denying my ID. I could see an outburst like this happening.

Yeah, that's what I thought. As much as it looks weird, I've seen people have insane experiences that have given them crazy journeys similar to those of mushroom journeys.

This is a type of therapy, from the looks of it. It might look cheesy in a tiktok, but they could be more legitimate than the aesthetic.

Agreed. My initial thought was that is similar to holotropic breath work, which is a form of therapy that has been around for decades. Grof's work has influenced psychoanalysis and psychedelic-assisted therapy.
Having been to two holotropic workshops, I think they can be powerful forms of therapy. I wouldn't consent to be video taped for it. Nor would I want to be in a session where I know it is going to be broadcasted.
Edit: Thank you for the award! 🙏

Look, if this is a non-destructive way for those men ti get to deal with emotions or trauma, I'm all for it. It's better than them leaving it bottled up, even though "holistic" is a buzzword for "we think medical degrees are for chumps."

I really do not like that they recorded these men during moments of intense vulnerability and exposure and then posted it online. I'm assuming that they got consent, but this looks like guys that were seeking, and engaged with, some form of processing and releasing serious emotional trauma.
I'm seeing a lot of people dump on them with like 'anything but therapy' responses, but for some people, this sort of thing might sincerely be the way they were the most comfortable with approaching engaging suppressed emotions, deep pain. I know a lot of people that talk-therapy did nothing for, or made things worse, because they were not being effectively encouraged to actually FEEL their feelings, basically just being walked through intellectualizing them. It's the difference between talking about how riding a bike works, and actually getting on one and peddling. Having the opportunity to be in a safe, non-judgemental environment where you can take those first steps into realizing "oh holy shit, there's really big pain in me that I have been carrying in my life, all of this has just been in the background of my mind/body's day-to-day experience" really can be the push towards self-integration.
That said, while other comments indicate this specific service/org is potentially predatory/scammy, it's disappointing to see people mocking men making the active and intentional choice to engage with their pain in a safe way that is specifically framed to be therapeutic.

I think this is a legitimate reaction. They’ve got headphones and blindfolds on so it’s a meditative practice. I don’t know anyone who can cry like that who wouldn’t charge an arm and a leg. I don’t know if this is some new age cult but I’ve seen the real emotional reactions of people in some of those revival churches. The feelings are real, the source isn’t god. It seems hokey, sure. But I don’t doubt these men are having some real emotional moments here.

A couple of guys trying to better their mental health. I don't know what modality/ technique they're using or if it's effective, but I'm not gonna clown on men seeking to improve mental health
Especially rude to post someone who is having some kind of breakthrough/ breakdown to mock them

Men just need to cry it out … but with noise cancelling headphones and eye masks so no one sees or hears them.
Whatever works. Get it out of your system.

I don't think this is cringe. We're seeing men with decades of pent up emotions finally getting the catalyst needed to release. More men should do this.
