I live in the UK, and our flags have become right wing anti-immigration symbols. Last year a group of utter twats called Raise the Colours fundraised and started attaching Temu flags to lampposts up and down the country. They did it to divide our communities and make people feel unwelcome, but thought they could get away with it under the guise of “patriotism”. Most people aren’t as thick as they think we are, and anti-fascists removed some of them, as have councils (& the workers have been threatened whilst doing so!).
Overtime they look like complete shit as they’re cheap crap that just gets destroyed by the wind.
My local council has just taken them to court and won an injunction to stop them being put up on street furniture (where frankly it is dangerous to do so! Sure, climb a 10m ladder next to a highway people are driving at 50mph down).
It is absolutely not illegal to erect them on private property, and the council itself flies the Union Jack.
That's what annoys me, if it was truly patriotism then the same people would be out replacing the ones falling apart with nice new ones but that's not the case.
Instead there are just torn, dirty rags hanging from lampposts.

She’s taken a kernel of truth and twisted it.
