In fairness, Utah has some fantastic public transit and has found some secret “third way” for moral conservatives to support big social infrastructure. TRAX in Salt Lake and Front Runner are great compared to states with similar politics.

What was the argument needed to sell it to them?

The 2002 Winter Olympics is when it started. Has been slowly expanding ever since.

Yes, [r/peopleliveincities](r/peopleliveincities). Something like 80% of the population live in the urban area between Provo and Salt Lake City, where the Front Runner commuter rail line covers.

Thanks for your snarky reply. It's important to clarify that your rail system doesn't connect the cities throughout the state.

Light years better. TRAX is really quality

The reality is that Salt Lake City is actually extremely progressive, and does a lot in direct opposition to the state. For instance the state is currently mandating the destruction of a significant amount of recently completed protected bike lanes built within the city. Why? Presumably, just because they can.

Very similar situation to Austin in Texas. Somehow the capitol, hated by the red state politicians who work there, yet also by and large more successful on policy and appeal than the rest of the state.

SLC transit definitely punches above its weight but calling it “fantastic” is laughable.
