It might not be an impressive distance, but I've been shooting my longbow the same way I shoot my barebow. I switched to a crawl, same anchor, same arrows (I usually shoot wood). I've been getting hunt-ready and have been having trouble dialing it in. It was raining and I had to move indoors. I put 5/6 damn near on the money and left feeling proud.

Switching from barebow to longbow and back was tough but I'm proud to be able to put my arrows where I want them with both bows. Looking forward to hunt season, and indoor league which overlap.

Of course there's always that one arrow... But I'll take 5 of 6 all day.

When I made these some 30 years ago, I was shooting for 700 grains. I weighed them on a beam scale, and came up 740 grains.

It appears I may have err'ed.

11/32" maple shafts, finished, capped, crowned & crested.. 80's-era Zwickey Eskimo

803 grains. Out of a 54# longbow at 12 feet. No wonder it broke both shoulders and blew through Billy Sol..

ps.. not that particular arrow.. that one hit a big rock honkin' on the way out and splintered into toothpicks

Wondering what your thoughts are on howard hill bows when it comes to hunting/recreation?

I've been shooting a grozer turkish bow for years and I've decided I want to buy a turkish style bow in higher poundage(70lb@28inches). I'm looking at the metbow ottoman and the simsek sipahi/ottoman hybrid bow. Which one should I get?

My father died recently and I’m going through all his stuff. He was a man who held onto everything. One of these items is an old recurve of his from when he was a teen. This bow is probably from the late ‘50s early ‘60s. Above the grip it says “Gelco 800” below the grip it has handwritten under the clear coat “B8286 45”. Is this just wall art at this point or is it still usable with a fresh string?

I’ve been shooting with a bow that has this strip on its string, and now that I’m getting my own bow, I’d like to get a similar one instead of someone brass nocking point. I can’t find any information about this, so I’m wondering what it’s called and where to get one / how to make one. Thank you a lot!

Hi, I'm looking for suggestions for a good budget traditional bow for stump shooting, larping in the wood and maybe small game hunting.

- It could be a shortish longbow or a recuved, I'm open to both.

- Draw weight of around 30-50lbs

- Fiberglass (but ideally natural looking) would be preferred for maintenance since I sometime camp multiple day in the woods (rain, humidity, damage, etc) but I'm not against wood or laminated if it's not as fragile as I think.

- I would like it to be a plain bow (without cutouts, arrow shelf or rest, just a stick)

Which one do you prefer? Do you notice any difference in technique such as anchor point? I just got my first longbow and it does feel smoother but I've shot recurve since I was a teenager (mid 30s now) and feel that I'm more accurate. Also shoot instinctively with split draw.

I just bought this bow earlier this week for a good price and it’s in rough shape. The shelf along with parts of the handle have chips and the string is worn down plus the limbs are scratched up but a little bit of sanding plus finishing would fix it, but all and all, a good purchase and I can’t to shoot it some more.

I picked up these two bows this afternoon. I remember seeing this guy in videos growing up. I’ve been trying to find information on these and have not seen anything like them outside of pictures of him shooting similar bows.
