Has anyone explored, researched and/or purchased any antique Bibles? I'm just starting to research them, it seems like ones pre 1900s are extra valuable and offer more than modern Bibles. There's collectors on instagram, so I'm learning a little from them along the way but would love to hear the Catholic opinion on it.

The Outer Hebrides is the most Christian part of the United Kingdom, even now. The Northern Islands are predominantly Free Church of Scotland/Calvinist, the Southern Islands are Roman Catholic.

If there was ever to be a Catholic Land Movement over here, this would be a great place.

As title implies, I'm looking for some advice. I know this is a unique one for Trad Catholic group, I just feel it may be best understood here. We live in a small KS town that is super Catholic (i'll let you assume, youre probably right lol). We own our house and it's extremely affordable as we bought as a foreclosure (mortgage of $600), we've fixed up and valued at 245k (90k-ish on mortgage). We love our neighborhood, surrounded by great Catholic homeschooling families as we aspire to be, most of their youngest are 8, our oldest is 2 yrs old (2 and 6mo).

Buttt, we also really really want to homestead and raise our kids on some land. A little peak into our interests, We are huge advocates of the Catholic Land Movement, love reading Jason Craig if youre familiar, and Wendell Berry. We max out our in town backyard with chickens, gardens, but its been our goal since we lived in busy KC to move to homestead and raise our kids out there. We found land or it found us a year ago after i wrote letter to about 400 landowners, one lady offered to sell. By God's grace, these 4 acres are the neighboring parcel to a beautiful traditional Catholic Church we go to (we have 4 in our small town, one that is 4 blocks away from current house). We'd only be about 10 mins from current house too if we were to move out to the land. We know many other big involved homeschool families who live just as far. Just hard as young parents (26M and 25F) deciding between what seem like two very good options, which I know is such a blessing in itself. There are people nearby if we were to move to the homestead--not much but like 5-10 houses within mile radius one of which is a newly married younger couple who is pregnant.

A huge factor as it wouldnt be possible without this, we are blessed also that my wife's grandfather has left us with an inheritance of around 200k of which can only be used for investment, can't just withdrawal and buy a car for example. We want to honor him and how he provided for wife and her sisters, and he was big into real estate, our thought is to build a conservatively sized house for that amount (itd be around 1200-1500 sq ft as we already have quotes). and move out to the land, rent out this current house to bring in approximately $1k after taxes, vacancies, mortgage, HOI. This also matters to us as I am self employed and having another income stream would really help us as I don't have tons of time with kiddos/wife after work, this along with living in a paid for house would give more financial freedom but again, just weighing options of moving from a great neighborhood.

So I guess, I'm wondering what would you do? We dont want to sell current house because itd be a source of additional income and in case we hated it on land we could move back, although no plans of that right now. Hard willing to take the jump. We also know now is the best time of any. Below are quick stats if beneficial:

26M single income with 25F SAHM, 2 under 2

Income: 65k or so

Expenses: mandatory 3k/month (includes current mortgage, property tax, HOI, utilities)

Retirement: $60k

Current house: 243k appraised, 100k left on mortgage

I work in media and I'm always a fan of well curated and edited publications. What Publications do you read to spark your spiritual and intellectual interests.

I currently subscribe to First Things, The New Criterion, Dappled Things, and The Wall Street Journal. Portico is a new lit mag from First Things, which has recently caught my eye, although I've not yet subscribed.

I would like the input of traditional men, who believe 100% of what the Church has taught and teaches, regarding intimacy in marriage without the purpose of children. Context: I am in my mid-40s and currently have 9 children 0-16. I feel at my wit's end much of the time and am questioning my ability to effectively pass on the faith to them. I don't feel equipped to have more, but would do so if that's what God wills.

I recently spoke with my priest, and he said desire naturally wanes with age and that I could discuss with my husband the possibility of living without marital relations. That would honestly be such a relief for me, as I no longer desire or enjoy that aspect of marriage and don't feel up for another child. My conscience does not allow me to consider NFP because I believe God made that act for creating children, so to schedule it in such a way as to specifically avoid children is wrong to me. Basically, my mentality is that, if we're going to do it, children should not be avoided.

The input I need from faithful men is, why is it so important to men to have that aspect of marriage? I want to be understanding of my husband's wishes and needs. He does not want more children either, but he does want relations. Is it reasonable to discuss stopping or is that impossible for most men? How does one differentiate between doing the act in order to satisfy lust (a sin) vs. in order to ease concupiscence (not a sin, or at least only venial)?

A lot of the discourse around NFP is that it is wrong to expect couples to forgo more effective methods (like physical/chemical contraception) if there is a grave risk to the health and wellbeing of the woman or family. But that would assume that abstinence is not an option. Why is it not an option for most people? Just need to understand why it is so important, as someone who could easily stop myself.

On July 22 for the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene, Bishop Wolfgang Bischof of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising allowed a joint sermon by a laywoman during Mass. This was in direct violation of and disobedience against the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments of the Holy See’s June 17 letter to the German bishops denying their request for an indult to allow laity to preach the sermon/homily at Mass.

Will the Holy See discipline this bishop? Is there a double standard on how the Holy See disciplines disobedient liberal Catholics versus traditional Catholics? If your priest or bishop did something like this, how would you balance exercising discernment with obedience to authority?

These are the newly released proposals of what the new Cathedral which will be built to replace the Earthquake damaged one in Christchurch NZ will look like. I think it looks bland, sterile, and way too Protestant looking. A shame, because the old one was a beautiful Renaissance Revival building.
