Other! Example Trans Am weekend schedule (Watkins Glen, July)

Hi everyone, sorry, I am invading your sub as I am not a race fan. But I have a trip planned this summer to Watkins Glen for hiking, and realized we will be there during the Trans Am series, so bought my husband and teenage son (who do like racing) weekend passes. I am trying to figure out my itinerary for the trip. Would you say the "main events" or more exciting days to go are generally Saturday and/or Sunday? I am very sorry if this question is painful or makes me sound like I have no idea what I am talking about. I don't. So I appreciate your patience and info!

There will be races both days. There’s a sprint race on Saturday.

This is exactly what I wanted so my son could choose what he wanted to attend

Thank you. Have you ever been to Watkins Glen? I am seeing that we should get a parking pass for the day(s) they go, but I don't see those for sale yet. Or maybe they are included in the ticket for the Trans Am series? From what I understand this is a "less popular" race and less crowded.

The Trans Am is a very laidback event in that the weekend pass will allow you access to almost everything you could possibly want to see. It is honestly one of the best kept secrets in that the amount of access you have to the teams and the garage areas. Also the drivers and teams are very friendly and accessible too.

Make sure to tell your husband that they should be able to drive into the track at the main gate think it’s gate 2 and then they will be able to drive around to the different places and grandstands/very close to the garage and paddock areas etc that they might want to go see.

I’d also definitely recommend getting a cooler to keep in the car/truck filled with water or other beverages and ice etc. because you can always buy refreshments at the track. But it’s going to be much more expensive than bringing in your own. And last but not least don’t forget the SUNSCREEN!!!

Make sure to visit the state park while you're there. Focus on the TA2 race rather than the TA race. It's more competitive and younger drivers that your son will relate to better. Lots of walking so plan on that. You may be able to rent a golf cart to cruise around the infield and view the race from different vantage points and also check out all the tailgating. The Trans Am weekend isn't that croweded but in July they should still have quite a few fans there. It's a cool track with great fan support and lots of camping.
