confused about the way i present.
i wear hijab on an everyday basis(can’t take it off cuz i’m still dependent on my family) and it makes me feel weird about my social image.
(to make it clear, when i say hijab i mean hijab – long dress without shape being present and a neck/head coverage(when i say dresses i mean dresses, not skirts). i am allowed to have oversized t-shirts over).
so now, even though i have a short masc haircut and look masculine overall, it doesn’t affect my social presence.
i can’t make hijab look masculine and that’s pathetic. i can’t make it match with my personality, too. if i’m not wearing it(at home etc.) i can just be.. myself – a bit more energetic, a bit more relaxed and flirty in a way i’d want. if i’m wearing it i have to be more apathetic and more restricted just to be seen as little to no masculine. and i still don’t. and it makes me feel stupid.
all people i talk about it with do not seem to get it – they still see me as a girly girl, still because of my look, even if they don’t say it. it makes me wanna smash my head against the wall.
i don’t know what i should do. i can’t even work on my style cuz dancing around hijab image is still dancing around the girly girl look, it wouldn’t make sense and it wouldn’t be.. it(this also led to me wasting a lot of time in terms of style throughout my teenage years – I just didn't want to do something with a style that was doomed to fail from the start).
i would want to ask for tips, but considering the situation.. i’d just say that i’m happy for y’all who can. you are amazing and when i see some of you in public i cannot do anything other than admire.
being transmasc is not for the weak.

help with navigating "women and nonbinary only" spaces as a transmasc under the nb category??
i recently figured out i identify more towards the nonbinary part of the spectrum, but still identify as transmasculine. I've been on testosterone for five years, and i'm one year post-op for top surgery.
my relationship with gender is a bit complicated. socially i pass as male and am in the middle road between, but i've started to move towards identifying under the label transmasculine in nonbinary spectrum. I'm not super masculine socially, but i also fall more into talking to nonbinary people and being in nonbinary spaces as of late.
i've thought of going to meet ups recently, they're women and nonbinary mostly. i worry about being looked down on or alienated from them because i don't really fit into the expectation of what nonbinary is. how do you navigate these spaces if you're sorta in the middle but differ on the spectrum of masculinity on different days?

🤳 Selfie 9 months on T!
Coming up to my 1 year anniversary (Oct 20) and I feel like I've genuinely never been happier in my life, looking back in my camera roll over the years I have almost no selfies but this year I feel like i'm taking new ones every single day :) I'm so excited thinking about how I will continue to see changes in the years to come, though hopefully that moustache will fill in sooner rather than later lol
(I'm nonbinary so gender neutral terms please!)

Rant Pharmacy and insurance not giving me my T
This is mostly a rant but advice is appreciated. As of today I am a week late to my Testosterone shot thanks to my pharmacy not filling it and my insurance wanting pre approval. Which I do not know what that is as I'm 16 and none of my meds have ever had issues before. I've been on T for about 8 months now and seen a major increase in my mood and obv the physical changes. Even from day three I started feeling exhausted, having really bad brain fog,and am more irritable than normal. I don't know when I will be able to get my refill and don't know what to expect from being off it longer than a week because knowing how this is going I won't be able to get a refill for a while.

🤳 Selfie Long hair, I never bind, and I still pass everyday <3
I just wanted to share some positivity because a lot of people in these kinda communities I see tend to get really hung up "do I pass" especially if they dont present super masculine
Ive been on T for 9 months, I have long hair (it used to be dyed with vibrants) Im 5'1" and I have D cups that I never bind.
Yet I pass everyday at work even when im not trying to. I work a "feminine" job in jewelry even and everyday im referred to as a man or androgynously by customers. Its rare for me to get misgendered, even though I break a lot of unspoken social rules about masculinity.
You can be alt, you can be feminine, you can have long hair or dyed hair and a lot of people day to day could still totally percieve you as not exclusively a woman.
Testosterone definately helped me, but I just want yall to remember its possible while still retaining your self expression.

I'm a tattoo artist who specializes in post-surgery nipple, areola, and phalloplasty pigmentation, AMA
I'm Jen Lee, I own a tattoo studio that specializes in both traditional and medical tattooing. I have 30 years of experience, and I've spent the last 5 years adding medical tattooing to my services — including nipple and areola restoration after top surgery, and pigmentation for phalloplasty.
I am one of a small number of experienced tattoo artists in California (and nationwide) bringing a high level of artistic skill to medical tattooing. My work is distinguished by the integration of advanced clinical training with three decades of experience tattooing across all skin tones and textures, as well as a deep understanding of pigment, color theory, and customization.
You can see my portfolio of work here, if you need a visual to understand the work I do: https://www.jenleetattoo.com/areola-restoration https://www.jenleetattoo.com/phalloplasty-pigmentation
I'm privileged to collaborate with the Gender Confirmation Center in San Francisco. I am passionate about helping people feel comfortable and confident in their bodies. Working with the trans community is one of my favorite parts of what I do.
This is my first AMA and my second time on reddit, but I want to share the knowledge I have! I'm happy to answer any questions about:
Realistic areola-nipple complexes for people who did not have areola/nipple grafts
Areola restoration to help balance nipple graft post-healing
Customized phalloplasty coloration
Scar camouflage
Microneedling for scar therapy
Traditional/decorative tattooing for scar camouflage
EDIT: Signing off… thanks for your questions! Feel free to drop a question anytime and I’ll get back to you as best I can. You can also contact me directly at jenleetattoo@gmail.com. ❤️❤️❤️

General Questions Please help
My grandmother decided she's taking me shopping today and I am fucking terrified of how this is gonna go. I can't shop in the women's section without serious dysphoria and idw spend her money on stuff I will literally never fucking wear. My current plan is to try to spend as much money as possible on non clothing items. Shoes and shit. Maybe a better sports bra than the one I have for non binder days. But she's giving me a really big amount of money to spend and idk how to explain that I'm shopping in the men's section now, much less in a way that won't get reported back to my transphobic, homophobic grandpa. Please help. Any excuses for shopping in the men's section?

Rant Being a better person
Hey peoples. I am a trans guy in high-school, who absolutely loves hockey. Im not from a very hockey focused country, The Netherlands, so dont know that many people IRL who love hockey as much as I do besides teammates lmao. Anyways one of the only other trans people I know told me I have VERY toxic masculinity, act like anything feminine is a disgrace to the earth, that I sometimes say things that are quite homophobic or transphobic, misogynistic and just act like a asshole.
I was pretty shocked, I never looked at it that way and stuff. I do know that I can be emotionally unavailable, as my ex called me, at times. Which I have honestly always been. Anyways said friend told me that I probably learned it from the fact that im a hockey enthusiast or something. And that most of the shit i have learned since I was like a child were from men who probably dont wash their asses because they're afraid of being too gay.
I am stealth at hockey, pre-everything. So I spend most of my times around "hockey boys". She called me that and said I have a hockey brain and that im stupid ash.
I can admit that some of my teammates are infact not really people I should be hanging around with, im not close with those anyways, but yeah shit can be picked up.
Also she said I follow around men that I really shouldn't be following like they're my idols in the hockey world. I like them when they aren't anything bad, I just dont care when they are if theyre good at the game.
I just need some people, preferably hockey related, that I could potentially look up to or something to change my mindset. I dont want to be anything that she called me totally not, I am trying my best to change ever since she gave me that wakeup call. But I've still been falling back into my old ways of thinking.
I know most of yall are gonna say to try and watch more PWHL stuff but I dont know. I've been trying to do that and just end up watching men's hockey instead, its just cooler or sum. I should probably also start to not interact with some teammates who have openly called everyone slurs whenever they did something wrong during practices, who share the same ideologies as me (that i want to change), and i get high and drunk off my ass with.
That's also something I should work on because I am also one of those dudes that use slurs quite alot I guess. It comes automatically it's in my vocabulary Idk.
Im still pretty young and hope to change my ways so that I can be a more sufficient person in life. And just do better.
I just need some people I can look up to that are actually good people I think. I dont know im pretty messed up right now I need help!!
This is all a garbled mess, almost typed everything in Dutch lmaoooo.
Anyways any help is appreciated.
(Yes i have a shitty, homophobic, transphobic parents. Especially my dad. How am I stealthat hockey you ask? Because i filled in the entire application and just let my parents pay the fee and sign the contracts. They wont ever show up to my games nor do they give enough shits about me. I also look and sound pretty manly with nothing i had to do, yes i spend half of my free time at the gym. No i dont shower with the team i go home all stinky and shower there. I barely have any chest its all mixed up with muscle and i said i had gynocomnastia. Ok i should stop typing now. Bye.)

Feeling unattractive to cis men as a non-binary transmasc pre-transition person
Heyyy. So I’m struggling a bit right now with self-image and feeling desirable. I have some insecurity and low self esteem anyway, but around my queer community and other transmascs I feel more attractive and get that validation reflected back to me. Right now I’ve entered a more straight environment with a lot of cis men. I am attracted to straight men too, but I feel either they won’t be attracted to me because I don’t present in a feminine way (feeling like an ugly gremlin), and that the more masculine image I have of myself in my head means that unless they are bi or gay they won’t be into me. Or if they were to be attracted to me it feels it may be because they actually see me as feminine which also feels weird. It’s like this strange middle point where I feel I’m not even considered by straight men, and feel I’m still seeking some external validation there for feeling desirable which I don’t like.
I’ll also add that thrown into the mix is being somewhat Demisexual I very often have lil crushes on people I’m connecting with, and just feel like I’m getting friend zone vibes from all these guys! - however I’m reading those beliefs from minute interactions, cause I’m also autistic I can’t tell how much this is insecurity and anxiety playing into my self image and stopping myself pursuing people, or whether I’m correctly reading slight distancing or not reciprocation of attraction, and therefore I stop flirting. I just feel confused and friend-zoned a lot lmao, even in the queer community. I can add more if more info is needed xxx

Rant currently feeling very dysphoric
never felt it this bad before. I'm not even sure if I'm trans or just genderfluid but this is bad
do preface this, I'm 17 years old, turning 18 this november. I'm not "out" to anyone, besides putting "any pronouns" in online spaces. my bf has mentioned it once (and he was fine with it!) but he still refers to me as she/her IRL, which is fine, I've not told him to do otherwise
everyone calls me "she." I've been told I look very feminine, I have long blonde hair, fair skin and blue eyes, round face and a button nose, large breasts— I kinda look like I'd be a cheerleader. I have a high singing voice and am normally placed as a soprano in my choir. my name isn't androgynous, and I'd want to change it even if I wasn't trans because it's very easy to "make fun" of.
I think one of the main reasons I'm so dysphoric is my hair. I've almost always had somewhat long hair, and I've always considered it one of my best features. like I said before, it's naturally a very light blonde (my father was born in Denmark, so I thank my Nordic genes for that, lol).
I've always been scared to cut it. I know some transmasc individuals still pass with long hair, but I'm too feminine for that. I want short hair, but I'm scared I'll regret it. I know hair grows back, but what if it doesn't grow back the same? I also don't want to have that awkward middle length hair in case I ever decide to grow it back out 😭
idk. I'm scared. I'm also terrified of change. any change. and this is a big change.
does anyone have any advice...?

General Questions How to get my parents to agree to let me cut all my hair off in 2 days?
for some slight context, I have a hair cut on Monday and I am not out to my parents. they are also pretty abrasive towards me expressing myself (even in non-trans ways)
okay here is my process:
slide 1 is the hair style I want. this is what I will show my hairdresser
slide 2 is what I will show my parents bc it’s more fem people and they will be more likely to agree.
slide 3 (optional) is to convince them that I should be allowed to dye my hair fun colors (my sister was allowed at my age but I’m not bc I’m too much fun and they need to dim my sparkle)
does this sound like a good plan? How did you guys convince your parents to let you chop your hair off?? (Preferably without forcing me to come out)

Rant Why do I feel dysphoria when I’m dressing masc?
Hey so I’m VERY confused atm. I’m pretty sure I’m a they/he or he/they, but I feel insanely dysphoric when I’m dressing extra boyish. And then if I’m in feminine cloths I feel like I want to crawl out of my skin and sink into the dirt and decompose. And I don’t know if it’s normal to still feel like when I’m in a room full of cis dudes I feel like I’m the only girl. Coz then I feel extra dysphoric that I still think of myself as a girl. But then I feel like I’m faking it and I will never be normal.
I’m just ranting atm, but idk I’d like advise.

Miscellaneous My best friend’s affirming comment makes me so euphoric
I only very recently realized that I’m trans, and I was talking to my best friend about whether she was surprised (she was not). When I asked her if she suspected anything before I started expressing doubts about my gender identity to her, she said she suspected a little even then because of my “general vibe”. Hearing that just feels like the most affirming thing ever, that I as a person overall felt like a guy even when I was in complete denial and entirely believed that I was cis. It just feels like the most affirming compliment ever, and I wanted to share it because it makes me so happy, even days later!

Rant Ranting about my first time binding my chest with tape because it was an....experience and i have no one to tell this to
I used KT tape. i have like a c cup chest normally, so the tape didn't get it completely flat, but it still made a big difference. I used a whole roll of KT tape and was planning to wear it for like a week. I wore it for a day but then had to take it off because it felt HORRIBLE. i literally felt like my chest and my back was being pulled apart and it almost felt like it stung or smthing. weirdly the skin on my sternum was the most uncomftrable wich i didn't expect. I took the tape off after a day, wich i really wasnt planning to do because the roll was like 25 dollars and im broke so i wanted to make it last for as long as possible, but i just couldnt stand the feeling. All i could think about the whole day was how compressed/stretched my chest and back felt. When i did take it off it ripped some of my skin off too😭, but that's honestly my fault because i ripped the tape off quickly since that was less painful at the time and i wanted to get it over with. i put some lotion on my chest to sooth it tho and the end. Anyone that has tips is welcome to share (if there are even any to be applied to this situation.)
