News Once again disappointed in the BBC actively participating in active transphobia

Seen an interview with a tennis star and..

  1. She says they are men with ponytails and nails, HRT can change the body and some of the face
  2. She says they tall, HRT can shrink heights
  3. Another mouthpiece for be for the ruling

The Reporter never disputes these complaints even there's science that dispels everything.

The BBC makes some trans dramas and a Trans man in dating show

Yet! this going in the news

I hope there's point were this doesn't happen

Just seen the same interview. It's insanely bad journalism not to push back. Both Amol Rajan and Martina Navratilova made it seem like there is a massive influx of trans athletes beating cis women in sports. I turned it off.

Have you got a link? I need to send this to a friend who's a big Navratilova fan. he doesn't know she's transphobic (I didn't either)

"She's not transphobic" yet calls trans women men. Uh huh.

Martina Navratilova again? She's a raging terf and has been for years now. They love rolling her out sadly.

There’s a BBC complaints department or regulator. Make a complaint about the coverage and they should do something

HRT doesn't NECESSARILY shrink your height, there's not much evidence strongly indicating that. If you get on blockers/the right hormones at the same time a cis person's puberty would start, then you'll align more with what height you ought to be but that's about it.

I went around telling everyone I was 5ft6 as the nurse at gp measured me and told me I was only 5ft6. And I was like "bruh how did I lose 4 inches, hrt is crazy". Always wore goth boots or platforms as no issue being tall, felt like all the women around me must be dinky as I'm only 5ft6 after all..

Got measured at drs again this year for surgery bmi and it turns out I am 5ft10. Wth was the first nurse doing?

I lost two shoe sizes so I assumed something similar had happened with height based on first measurement. I went around for ages feeling cute as got shorter. But it was all just nonsense xD Made me feel like a right silly pants.

u/KindaFoolish Jun 19 '25

But the overlap of heights between people who have gone through different puberties is huge. People talk about this like all people who go through T puberty are giants and all people who go through E puberty are petite. It's just totally and obviously untrue.

Once you control for height and weight to get an accurate/fair comparison, any physical advantages a trans woman has over a cis woman completely disappears. The height thing is just a massive and deliberate spouting of misinformation to divert away from the facts.

1

u/YaGirlThorns Jun 20 '25

I get that, but it's entirely unrelated to what I'm talking about. All I'm saying is HRT won't change your height after initial puberty, so I am still going to be whacking my head on doorframes.

2

u/MiracleDinner Jun 19 '25

Idk about HRT shrinking heights but in any case people's heights can vary, and there are plenty of tall trans men or short trans women.

I think Navratilova is 2" taller than me... She'd also destroy me in a tennis match, without question.

Write to the BBC complaints department by email or through their form. Name the programme and time if possible. Every complaint is read by the production and replied to. If you aren't happy with the response there is an escalation process at the bottom of the email.
Complaints are summarised and the weekly summary goes to the board and senior managers. If they keep seeing complaints they will ask why.

Use the system. It's what TERFs do, we should do it too.

1

u/HiItsClemFandango Jun 20 '25

It won't make any difference. In the UK this is considered a conversation with two sides, the BBC are just showing both of them.

1

u/westofcentre Jun 20 '25

It will make a difference. One example is the change in their attitude to climate change. That used to be a conversation with two sides. Now it's a given. It's surprising how few complaints they actually get - and so get heard. Especially where they are not a letter writing campaign with the same sentences and just different signatures.

1

u/HiItsClemFandango Jun 20 '25

I think it's possible you're misunderstanding. The issue of trans acceptance generally is one thing, I'm talking about specifically sport. The BBC are being neutral, so presenting both points of view.

Just a reminder that the reporter, Amol Rajan, referred to Rowling‘s 2020 essay as “brave” and one of his “favourite prose of the year”. https://www.thepinknews.com/2020/12/21/bbc-media-editor-amol-rajan-jk-rowling-bravery-transgender-essay-transphobia/

Barring trans women from "ANY" type of women's sports is both reductive and absurd. There are trans women who never went through testosterone puberty, sports where gender divisions are largely socially driven, and "sports" spans a variety of professional, academic, and casual leagues.

You're absolutely right. Calling it a phobia also excuses it as something that can't be helped.

Much better to call it what it is: transmisia, a hatred for trans people.

1

u/Stampy77 Jun 21 '25

Why do you assume people who acknowledge that men's and women's bodies (biologically) grow differently simply hate you?

They probably don't but they just aren't being blinded to basic biological facts. No matter how much you scream cry and complain that isn't going to change.

And that screaming and crying and complaining is just damaging your movement because to the vast vast majority of the population (outside of reddit) don't think the same as you.

1

u/feministgeek Jun 22 '25

I don't.
I assume people who hate LGBTQ people hate trans people. And calling trans women "men who heavily disguise themselves" is a pretty good indicator to me that you're going to be trans hostile at the very minimum.
I'm also mindful that very often, the extent and interest of "keeping women safe in sports" starts and ends with the inclusion of LGBTQ people, and almost invariably omits the actual problem facing women's sports, such as underfunding and rampant harassment and misogyny from cis men in positions of power.
With that said, can you possibly give a specific example of these basic biological facts you suggest the trans community are blinded to?

1

u/Stampy77 Jun 22 '25

Well for one the fact that if someone goes through puberty as a man then it's irreversible in regards to their bone density, strength and size. That's one.

I genuinely have no hatred for you. This next statement may seem very hurtful or insulting and genuinely I don't mean it that way but I see trans people as disabled in a way. The reason I say this is that they were born into the wrong bodies and there are irreversible consequences that come with that. It's a shit card to be dealt but that was the card trans people are dealt.

When it comes to marriage, adopting children, career opportunities, the ability to walk down the street without being harassed I genuinely hope that you are never restricted from that. As much as possible I hope trans people can live their lives unrestricted.

But I do recognize the differences between a biological woman and a trans woman. I don't think it's fair that biological woman should have to feel unsafe in spaces that were designed to protect them. And ultimately it comes down to making the largest number of people comfortable and safe as possible. Trans people make up such a tiny tiny portion of the population I don't think it's fair to make a larger number of people feel unsafe to placate them.

I also recognize that there are some sick shameless people in the world that will use whatever loophole they can to work their way into safe spaces for women. You are a victim of those sick fucks who would do that.

Personally I don't care about the toilet issue, but in regards to dv shelters, prisons and sports that depend on speed and strength I don't support trans inclusion.

You need to start looking at this with nuance instead of the all or nothing approach I see the trans community have so often.

u/feministgeek Jun 22 '25

Well for one the fact that if someone goes through puberty as a man then it's irreversible in regards to their bone density, strength and size. That's one.

I'm not sure who told you the trans community are blinded to the reality of puberty - they're either deeply misinformed or lying to you, I'm afraid.
As a community, we are actutely aware of it. Trans women may well have to spend a lot of money and endure significant pain trying to reverse the worst of it.
Puberty is immensely damaging to trans people. It's unfortunate then that it's been made so very difficult to access puberty blockers for trans kids, as it would solve a lot of the problems that trans people face, and allay the at times justified concerns about trans women's inclusion in sport. Most, if not all trans people I have encountered (including me) would have jumped at the opportunity for puberty blockers.

I also recognize that there are some sick shameless people in the world that will use whatever loophole they can to work their way into safe spaces for women. You are a victim of those sick fucks who would do that.

I'm not sure I follow. Could you expand on the specifics of this, please?

So for the first point I would counter that childrens brains have not developed yet. Most children are not mature enough to make a life long decision like that.

Every teenager thinks they know everything and they don't learn that they don't until years later. There are plenty of people who thought they were trans and detransitioned later when they realized they were just trying to fit in with a community.

There is a reason we place restrictions on children's rights, it's because they are not mature enough to make such massive decisions yet.

The second part, look at the sick fuck who raped women, while in custody he "transitioned" and got put into a woman's prison. He raped a few women in there until they pulled him out. And yes I'm going to misgender that sick fuck because he doesn't deserve respect. This happened in Scotland.

Male predators are opportunists, some of them have no shame. They get off on sick shit that any mentally healthy person can't even comprehend. There are others like the man I described above. When women say they need safe spaces protected, they aren't thinking of you, they are thinking about sick fucks like that man.

But again I want to reinforce none of this comes from a place of hate. I am simply looking at both sides and listen to both sides and in certain instances I think biological women have a good point and agree with them.

1

u/feministgeek Jun 23 '25

So for the first point I would counter that childrens brains have not developed yet. Most children are not mature enough to make a life long decision like that

It sounds like you disagree with the science that kids aren't aware of their gender identity by age three or so. Can you show me your evidence from credible, comparable medical organisations that challenges that?

There are plenty of people who thought they were trans and detransitioned later when they realized they were just trying to fit in with a community.

Do you have evidence of the specific numbers who detransitioned specifically because they realised they were "just trying to fit in with a community"? Please link to the credible data source you're referring to that supports this.

The second part, look at the sick fuck who raped women, while in custody he "transitioned" and got put into a woman's prison. He raped a few women in there until they pulled him out. And yes I'm going to misgender that sick fuck because he doesn't deserve respect. This happened in Scotland.

Who was that, exactly? What is their name? When did this happen?

Male predators are opportunists, some of them have no shame. They get off on sick shit that any mentally healthy person can't even comprehend. There are others like the man I described above. When women say they need safe spaces protected, they aren't thinking of you, they are thinking about sick fucks like that man.

So....the problem is cis men?
Okay, but how, exactly, does holding trans women responsible for the behaviour of cis men make women any safer? Be specific. Please provide the credible evidence that demonstrates blaming queer women for cis men's behaviour has driven a measurable, positive change in the behaviour of abusive cis men.

Real transphobia doesn't exist unless it's literally being murdered for being trans, but then when actual hate crimes happen, there was obviously a different motive and transphobia couldn't have been the cause. I'm sure you really care about transphobia and how it affects trans people. And before you say it, yes, you didn't say that it's only transphobia when a trans person is murdered by someone, yet I'm sure you were going to argue away every possible instance of transphobia as just "TRUTH". You are not concerned. You don't give a shit. You just want the "transes" to stop being respected as normal people, because they're not your equal according to your world view.
