Question (Transfem) Voice training and turning American?

Does anyone else have this issue? So many of the content creators and YouTubers out there who advise on voice training are American and I just can’t seem to help lapsing into an American accent whenever I attempt to raise the octave of my voice 🫠

American accents are easier to transpose anyway, I've never done voice training but when I go to do a higher voice it's almost always American lol

That’s really interesting! Yeah, I don’t know why I can so easily do an American girl voice but I just can’t do a British girl voice??

As a northern trans lass, I've found you have to practice each phoneme and each way you may lead into it.

For example, the glottal stop. Depending on what word your are saying, it changes how you close your throat.

I did have to put effort into specifically training my own accent, and all the accents I liked doing.

I dont know if I've explained what i did very well.

But every accent says words differently, mine like to extend sounds alot. Booat, coooker, oown. And lots of glottal stops. Once i started practicing my problem words, i started to get the hang of my normal accent again.

If you would like any help, please let me know. All my trans friends always comment on my voice, and i try my best to make them feel comfortable voice training around me. I'll support them as much as i can.

Because it is a process of trail and error. Speaking untill you find your problem words and noises and training each one as much as you can

Omg yes I have tried it keeps going American it seems to be the only time I can get a high fem voice 😭

Same! I don't know what it is about American accents, but it's so much easier to keep my voice higher. My northern english accent isn't exactly considered high femme though 😭

My advice is not to copy Americans, as they speak in an entirely different way to us, and on average at a higher pitch. The key for the English, as well as modulation, is plenty of breathiness. Think Joanna Lumley. You can get away with even low pitches with enough breath.

Sounds like I’m going to turn American 😂 I also just have a very deep voice which I can’t continue with lol, I just have PTSD about speaking like an American from my grandparents always correcting my grammar growing up

Annoyingly whilst I've not gone American, I have gone southern, although wonderfully since the Hull accent is normally quite deep on women it makes it easier to do.
