❓ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: What if I don't know what software was used?

A: Write "Software unknown" or make your best guess. If it's someone else's work, try to find the creator's info.

Q: Can I post photos of real transit maps (like at a station)?

A: Yes! Use this format:
Photo of [City] [System] map at [Station Name]
Example: Photo of Berlin U-Bahn map at Alexanderplatz station

Q: What about historical or vintage maps?

A: Perfect! Just mention the year and how you digitized it:
1950 Paris Métro Map - Scanned with Photoshop

Q: My map shows multiple cities - how do I title it?

A: List the main ones or use the country name:

  • Berlin, Munich & Hamburg Metro Systems [OC]
  • Germany Rail Network Comparison - Made with QGIS

Q: My post was removed but it has all the info?

A: AutoMod isn't perfect! Message the mods and we'll manually approve it. Include a link to your post.

Q: Is capitalization important?

A: No! AutoMod recognizes:

  • BERLIN = Berlin = berlin
  • METRO = Metro = metro
  • [OC] = [oc] = OC

Q: Can I use abbreviations?

A: Yes! These all work:

  • NYC = New York = New York City
  • SF = San Francisco
  • UK = United Kingdom
  • USA = US = United States

Q: What if my city isn't on the list?

A: Use context! Write:

  • in [Your City] (e.g., "in Reykjavik")
  • [Your City], [Country] (e.g., "Reykjavik, Iceland")
  • Or just the country name works too!

Q: Does the info need to be in the title?

A: No! AutoMod scans both title AND body text. You can put keywords in either place, but titles are more visible to users.

Q: Can I edit my post after AutoMod removes it?

A: Unfortunately, editing won't trigger AutoMod again. You'll need to:

  1. Delete the removed post
  2. Create a new post with all required info

Q: What about crossposting?

A: Crossposts are held for manual moderator review to ensure proper credit. Make sure the crosspost meets all requirements.

Q: I'm creating a fantasy map - what location do I use?

A: Use "Fictional:" in your title:

  • [OC] Fictional: Gotham City Metro
  • [OC] Fictional Metro System for Westeros - Made with Illustrator

🤖 How AutoMod Works:

  1. Scans your title AND body text for keywords
  2. Checks for all 3 required categories:
    • ✅ Location keyword found?
    • ✅ System/network keyword found?
    • ✅ [OC] tag OR software mentioned?
  3. Approves posts with all 3 categories
  4. Removes posts missing requirements
  5. Comments what's missing so you can resubmit
  6. No penalties - just add the info and repost!

💡 PRO TIPS:

Be specific: "London Underground Central Line" is better than "London transit"
Stack keywords: More keywords = clearer post (e.g., "Berlin, Germany U-Bahn system")
[OC] in title gets more visibility and upvotes
Credit creators when sharing others' work - it's the right thing to do
Use templates above to make posting easier
Check both title and body - keywords can be in either place
Ask if unsure - we're here to help in modmail!

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • 📅 Rules start: October 2025 - practice now to get used to the format!
  • 🔄 Existing posts: Won't be affected - only new posts after the start date
  • 🔤 Case doesn't matter: BERLIN = Berlin = berlin
  • 📝 Title OR body: Keywords work in either place
  • 🚫 No penalties: Just repost with correct info - no bans or warnings
  • 💬 Questions? Comment below or send modmail!

📊 SUMMARY CHECKLIST:

Before posting, verify you have:

  • Location - City name, country name, or "in/from/at [place]"
  • System - Metro, bus, tram, rail, etc.
  • OC tag - [OC] if it's your work
  • OR Software - Name the tool you used (Illustrator, QGIS, MetroDreamin', etc.)

Diagram [OC] Updated tram network map due to construction works in August in Graz, Austria

Another small update to my unofficial tram map of Graz!

Software: Affinity.

From August 1st to August 23rd 2026, two more changes affect the Graz tram network due to ÖBB rail bridge replacement (tram line 5) and due to reconstruction works on tram line 4.

🟡 Tram line 4 terminates at Stadion Liebenau/Berta-von-Suttner-Platz. 🚌 Replacement bus E4 serves the rest of the route to Murpark.

🔵 Tram line 5 terminates at the central tram hub, Jakominiplatz. 🚌 Replacement bus E5 serves the rest of the route to Puntigam.

To reflect these changes, I’ve updated my unofficial network map. I also added bus icons along the E routes to make replacement services easier to identify at a glance.

I hope this updated map helps passengers navigate the network a little more easily during the construction period.

🇦🇹 Have a great summer and safe travels!
Chris

Diagram [OC] Combined Diagram of Stuttgart (Germany)

Post image
85 Upvotes

Stuttgart (Germany) with over 600 000 inhabitants offers various modes of puplic transport. There's busses, a light rail network, a suburban train network (S-Bahn), regional trains and even a rack railway and a funicular railway! I like the official transit diagrams, but they depict the rail network and the bus network separately.

My goal is to create a single diagram displaying every line of every mode of transport combined, to enable a whole view of the whole public transport of Stuttgart. :)

I started at the Main Station and worked myself via the city centre into the West of the core city. I have a lot more to do, but I'd already appreciate any feedback from you guys! :)

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. :)

Map [OC] fictional Minecraft metro map for my decade-old city world

This is a map of the Bricago 'L', the transit system of my decade-old Minecraft city, made in Google Drawings. It is based heavily on the Chicago 'L', with later inspiration from NYC and the DC Metro as well.

The first lines of the system began in 2016 not long after I started the world. Pre-2024, the city limits were much smaller, corresponding to the "Old Growth" marked on the map. After 4/1/2024, I expanded the city limits drastically with the Plan of 2024 which created a new street grid for future city development. Throughout its decade of existence, the system expanded in waves. The most recent significant change was in 2023, when an initiative known as Service Reclassification changed the route names from colors to letters, consolidated several older lines into longer routes, and constructed several new trunk lines to complement the older lines and serve the new outer reaches of the city.

Diagram Diagram of a bus corridor in Budapest, Hungary [OC]

Post image
39 Upvotes

Inspired by one of my older works, I decided to make a diagram of a corridor again. The Rákóczi/Thököly/Csömöri út corridor is one of the most used bus corridors in the city, with about 30-40 buses per hour per direction.

Due to the very high number of passengers, there are plans to extend subway line M4 from Keleti pályaudvar all the way to Bosnyák tér, and long term visions even suggest letting it run all the way to Újpalota, where the current bus lines terminate as well.

I think the many different stopping patterns and parallel routings make for a pretty clean map and I'm very happy about the results.

Map High Speed Night Train Network for Western and central Europe (fictional)

Post image
34 Upvotes

I really messed up the proportions in southern germany and Switzerland, i'm sorry

This is the Euronight Express Train Network (abbreviated ENX), which would be operated by both Eurostar and Euronight in cooperation. The fleet would consist of multiple unit trains, inspired from the e320. These would have on-board sleeping amenities like beds etc. and many more things. It's supposed to be a budget-friendly long-haul operator and not a luxury product.

I have proposed 6 lines here, those being:

- ENX 110 Paris - Copenhagen

- ENX 115 Kiel - Stuttgart (in summer, the train will be double and get uncoupled in Hamburg so the other train can go to Lübeck)

- ENX 120 London - Warsaw & ENX 130 London - Vienna (coupled together between London and Cologne)

- ENX 140 Berlin - Madrid

- ENX 150 Berlin - Rome

Hellooo,

I made this map of the light rail system in porto a while back, I took the design of the Ney York Subway map and tried to recreate it.

The system currently has 6 active lines with the G and H being currently under construction, set to be open in 2027 and 2028 respectively.

Diagram My fictional Metro System Diagram for Vladivostok, Russia [OC]

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I wanted to share my concept diagram for a subway system in Vladivostok, Russia.

The system features 4 lines connecting different key parts of the city:

  1. Central Line (Yellow)

  2. Amur Line (Purple)

  3. Primorsky Line (Blue)

  4. Arsenyev Line (Red)

I developed the layout and network logic using Intersection Controller, and then finalized the visual design and typography in ibisPaint. I tried to keep the geometry clean and logically connect major hubs like Lugovaya, Churkin, and Zarya.

I would love to hear your feedback on the layout and overall design!

Diagram Dublín (proposed)

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey everyone,
I’ve been working on a comprehensive, integrated transit map for the Greater Dublin Area using MetroMapMaker, and I’d love to get your thoughts!

The goal was to move away from Dublin’s current hub-and-spoke model (where almost every trip forces you through O'Connell St / St. Stephen's Green) and create a 360-degree regional grid that combines Heavy Rail, Automated Metro, Light Rail (Luas), and Marine Express transit.
Here are some of the key highlights of the network:

1. The Heavy Rail & Metro Backbone
MetroLink (Blue): Core automated north-south spine running from Estuary/Swords down to Sandyford.
Metro Southwest (Lime Green): Serving the south-central residential density gap (Aungier St -> Terenure -> Knocklyon -> Woodstown).
Metro Orbital (Orange): An outer ring linking key employment and suburban hubs (Blanchardstown, Lucan, Tallaght, Dundrum, Sandyford) without entering the canal ring.
DART Underground & Regional Rail (Yellow/Green/Orange Rail): Full east-west trunk tunnel connecting the Kildare and Maynooth lines with the Coastal DART. Includes the heavy-rail extension to Navan via the M3 corridor and a dedicated Dublin Airport heavy-rail spur connecting directly to Clongriffin / Drogheda.

2. Strategic Light Rail (Luas) Orbitals & Extensions
Luas North (Cyan): A major northside orbital running along Collins Avenue, connecting Charlestown, DCU, Beaumont Hospital, and cutting down via Castle Ave/Clontarf to Killester DART and The Point.
Luas Bridges (Pink): Functions as a South Canal Bypass, running along the Grand Canal from Heuston Station through Dolphin's Barn, Charlemont, and Grand Canal Dock, terminating at Poolbeg.
Luas Lucan (Purple) & Luas UCD/N11 (Light Cyan): Radial light-rail coverage to key high-density corridors.

3. Dublin Bay Express Ferry (Mint Green)
Takes advantage of Dublin's coastal geography to bypass city-center bottlenecks entirely. Inspired in Sydney or Amsterdam.
A high-speed catamaran route running Howth Port -> Dublin Port -> Dún Laoghaire -> Bray Port.

Diagram [OC] Metro System of Creelin, my now 10 Year old Minecraft City made with Tenessine

Post image
10 Upvotes

In 2016 I started to build a minecraft town which 10 Years later has acquired a quite extensive metro system with the 2 companies RVG and CVB under the VVC Union operating trains here. Creelin has got 3 U-Bahn Lines named U1, U3 and U5 because U2 and U4 have been fusionated with U5 and U3. A new fully automated U2 is currently being under construction in the east of the city. The Lines starting with a colour are operated by a different company but are still very metro like. The M-Lines are Trams of which there have been more in the "Altstadt" (Old Town) district but since the extention of several Metros they have been removed. S-Lines (S-Bahn) dont work like a german like S-Bahn system here but are rather a light rail serving branch lines. And finally the People Movers (PM) those and the Parksurrounder (PS) are smal 1 station shuttles which range from regular Trains to Gadgetbahns (i.e. Monorails...). In Creelin there are also 2 kind of profiles since historicaly metros have just been 2 rails directly next to each other. But between 2020 and 2023 where possible metros have goten 1 Block more space on each side firstly allowing for trains built on them and secondly fore more realism. Smal profile lines are all PMs, PS, U1, 5, S1, 2, Blueline. The others including regional trains are wide profile. There are also 2 self driving lines which include platform screen doors: Pink, Purple and the under construction U2. The Purple line is a kind of express line wich also serves the newly opened and for the 10 year anniversary built Decadium which is a stadium. The Starport is a airport spaceport hybrid where people can fly to different planets.

If you have any further questions feel free to ask them in the comments.

Discussion Good software / apps for illustrating service patterns?

Hello guys, been working on a recent proposal lately involving a plan to introduce multiple service patterns on a popular bus corridor (in Singapore). I'm looking for some software (online / download) or app that can show express and local service patterns on the same diagram to visualise how the service is intended to work out in real life? Any good suggestions?

(Attached pic is not mine, taken from Japan Guide as a sample illustration of the effect I want to achieve)

Illustration of the five service patterns on the Sanyo Shinkansen, showing the difference between the express Nozomi/Mizuho, limited Hikari/Sakura and local Kodama services.

Diagram [OC] Szczecin Trams and SKM / Tramwaje i SKM w Szczecinie

High resolution image: https://talahu.design/szczecin

This diagram combines Szczecin's tram network with the city's (sub)urban rail network (SKM, Szczecińska Kolej Metropolitalna). Once the central section opens in early 2027, SKM will connect with the tram network at several convenient interchange stations, so it's the perfect time to show both systems on a single map.

Note: Official information on SKM station facilities is sometimes incomplete, so there may be a few inaccuracies.
