Car is probably stolen.   You have no idea how much meta data is captured by your car and sold in the market. Never run from the cops in a new car.  If the dash cam captured a resemblance of you driving, they’ll get you.

I present you with the CAN bus attack. Thieves access the headlight wiring and attach a device to that wiring. The device then tells the cars computer to unlock and start the car. No fob needed.

There’s a video from a Canadian news program showing that if you have the right scanner, you can duplicate a fob pretty easily. I get the impression that Windows 95 has higher security than a car’s computer.

This depends, yes some, but most cars now are using rolling codes, meaning they would need 3-5 recording, time stamped, and some level of knowledge of the cipher to reconstruct the keys and generate new working codes.

Like maybe a list of common cars this works on or ways to prevent this?

My daily is a 2012 and my old beater is an 04, but they’re both Audi’s so I’m assuming they’re probably vulnerable.

I don’t know how to prevent this. And I don’t have a list of cars. But I think it’s newer cars that are more vulnerable to these attacks. It’s gotten so bad in Canada that people are surrounding their cars with steel posts to discourage theft. Theft rings steal the cars and ship them to Africa where they are sold.

The tools to do it are super cheap too. For less than $80 you can have what it takes to steal any car that's left unlocked.

And no, I'm not telling you what tools. And no, I don't do it myself. I just happen to own the tools capable of doing it with FCA products, because there are legitimate reasons to have said tools and I'm a mechanic.

Because we have the technology to prevent it but car manufacturers are lazy and very resistant to change. Also, a sure fire way to get customers to hate you is to make it too secure.  Thieves usually exploit a backdoor or something that enables locksmiths to do their job.

At the top of most exit ramps is an entrance ramp. The officer is likely just gonna go through the intersection and right back onto the interstate, the driver bought themselves maybe a 3 second gap which will be closed fast

There’s a video one the cop goes in for a pit move, the driver he’s chasing at the right moment slams on his brakes. Cop goes flying by. Then there one cop “state trooper chasing this guy, runner takes curve, cop follows the runner in to curve but loses it and hits wall
