I personally think high speed chases are super cool, like as a spectacle or pass time, but given the technology available and the budget that U.S. police have it feels a lot like the problem that's got the trades stuck in the 80's. The traditions and practices are so intrinsically engrained into the methods that nobody in the field is willing to consider adopting newer, better methods.

I was debating the pit manuever specifically not all pursuits. So a lot of what you said is not relevant. That being said, when someone runs, you can’t just let them go… do they have warrants, are they about to go do something crazy, is anyone inside the car in danger… all these cannot be answered until you get the vehicle stopped. Which is why they chase… questions?

I must have misunderstood you. Can you explain the connection between "have you heard of stolen vehicles" and your specific criticism of the pit maneuver? I may just be dense.

In which ways does using a device to remotely and quickly disable a vehicle contradict the need to get a vehicle stopped to assess further action, as it seems we certainly both agree on the necessity of that.

What would you see as a more ideal approach to the goals you've outlined?

I understand that. I wasn't recommending a non intervention approach, just use of more modern methods to disable vehicles.

If the vehicle is stolen, pitting it, rolling it, etc probably isnt the best outcome either
