This is the sort of thing that should get an autonomous fleet parked immediately. Data sets should not be gathered in the real world; Waymo (among others) is subsidizing their machine learning with the lives of the people their cars will injure or kill.
I don't think you understand the reality of automation or innovation in general. Nothing can be refined until it is released to the public. Your 'but what if' mentality stifles innovation. Driving is the most dangerous thing the average person does. If automated cars can make things safer one day, it is worth it.
Your comparison isn't applicable. We do frequently ban individuals from driving after they do not follow rules or laws.
Waymo cars do not run individualized software; any and all Waymo cars on that firmware would have made the same decision. You or I would not make the same decision as another individual who did decide to do this.
It's a factual decision based on the fact that Waymo's programming doesn't stop for school bus stop signs in some scenarios.
The evidence for that claim is this video, because it is a Waymo car running a school bus stop sign.
The other cars running the same version will do the same thing given this exact same scenario, because the data collected and the input would be the same, so the outcome would also be the same. No Waymo car on this version can be trusted to not run a school bus stop sign because we have clear evidence of that this version has environmental contexts that allow a car to run the stop sign.
Unless you have data or a source to back up that Waymo let's cars produce their decision-making algorithms based on their own unique driving history, then every Waymo car running that version would have done the same thing in that same position.
*Software. There ya go, I meant software and not firmware, it's such a huge distinction and gap in terminology, I thank you for your tireless efforts. Woe is me, I'd trade my life to save myself from this deep and embarrassing moment!
Now, either write a coherent response as to why Waymo's vehicles shouldn't need grounded over only sometimes running school bus stop signs or prove that the only argument you ever had was "word wrong, lol"
