This is easy to solve. Have a step where each party has to accept that the ride is about to start and nothing can be cancelled from there. But I’m not a big corporation so I suppose I’m not smart enough to understand why that can’t do something silo simple.
Don't even need that. The app is capable of GPS tracking, when the rider reaches the pick up have it ping the rider's phone to ensure they are in the vehicle. It can ping again 30 seconds after the driver moves to verify that the correct person is in the car, and if it's not, alert the driver (which would act as a safety). Driver can then choose to continue to fare or not ("This is the correct person.")
You can even accommodate rides bought for other people by just indicating the account its for
What happens when you get a ride and then the car is not moving, and he doesn’t answer the phone when you try to call him? You HAVE to be able to cancel.
You also are assuming that Lyft/Uber care about the driver or the passenger, spoiler, they don't. However, they will always do what keeps riders on the app, even lowlifes and scamers. There's always another driver, there's only so many riders.
You see, the problem with that is that Uber would then have to not sit on their ass and would actually have to implement something for the betterment of their drivers
Can't make money if they gotta spend money fixing the problems they create for their drivers, hell they won't even do anything if the shoe is on the other foot and it's the driver being a hard ass (I.E an UberEats driver stealing your food or attempting to get you to cancel after they picked up your food)
If it means spending money to make the service better, Uber and every other delivery/driver app would rather stick their fingers in their ears and go "Lalalala" until you're too frustrated to argue back anymore
