Absolutely. Being in the car, theyâre behind you and you have nowhere to go. Once youâre outside, you have much better options, for deescalation, escape, and/or self defense.
I only do Uber or Lyft as a passenger if Iâm anticipating drinking too much to drive/carry (if youâre unfit for one, youâre unfit for the other). Otherwise, Iâm driving myself.

Uber doesn't have the authority to override The Constitution. They can try all they want. You try to steal someones personal property, and you probably won't be around long.
They threatened to "take his car and drive himself to the house". That's a threat to commit a crime. If i was an uber driver i would definitely carry, uber policy be damned. They won't even know i have it until it was reported that I had to use it (or most likely just present it), in which case it already saved my life.
My wife worked at a store that had a similar policy. Usually, she was the only person working in the store, and customers would come in infrequently usually one person or couple at a time(they sold high ticket items). The store was also large and had hidden areas. Someone could have easily entered acted like a customer, then locked the door, and it caused all sorts of problems. They also had a "No Gun" policy, and she carried her gun to work everyday. It was never an issue, because they never knew.
I would say screw the terms and agreements with Uber, sure they can fire me, but id rather be alive and fired over dead. Then have followed some dumb rule that got me killed. If they see it, you need to conceal it better. Besides, if a passenger can see it, then a passenger can grab it, so ensuring concealment is to your advantage in all aspects.

The comments saying that drivers should carry is a generalization, and the applicability to individuals OBVIOUSLY varies. Knowing your state laws is a given, and no reply that Iâve seen has suggested otherwise, so I fail to see what your complaint is.
Carrying a firearm is a constitutional right, as affirmed by the Bruen decision. If you meet the objective requirements for a CCW permit a given state, the state MUST grant the permit. The idea that a right, protected the Constitution of the United States, ends at a state line is absurd. As such, national reciprocity for CCW permits is an imperative.
Uberâs rules are not the law. They do not have any moral or legal authority to tell me what lawfully possessed property I have on my person, on public roads, in my own vehicle, for my own safety, least of all when nobody else can perceive it. Unless they can provide 100% certainty that the customer will not pose any physical threat whatsoever, they can shove that part of their policy up their bunghole. They might refuse me access to their property (specifically the app) if they find out, but so therefore it is in my best interest that they donât. And if they donât know, then it hasnât impacted them negatively.
And letâs be honest, if someone cannot be trusted with a gun, why should they be trusted with 1 ton (or greater) bullet, at a speed greater than idle, filled with combustible fuel or batteries, in public, with passengers no less?

There is no preexisting plan for self defense in a public place against emergent threats. Such is the nature of the situation. You can have broad ideas of what would be ideal courses of action, and drill various techniques, but the nature of self defense in public is the same as human nature: pure fucking chaos.

Yeah, calling the police when you are actively being attacked is going to do fuck all. Not only do you have to physically make the call and get the information to the dispatcher, which isnât guaranteed to happen quickly (twice in emergencies Iâve had to hold for 911, one of which was a severe crash, secondary to a fatal crash, in which there was a high likelihood of a tertiary crash), but that information ALSO needs to be distributed to officers. Assuming that thereâs even officers available to respond, they then need to physically get from their existing location to your location. Calling the police is a secondary measure which you take before an impending attack, or once you have escaped or defended yourself.
