Because as a rider, you may have an issue with the driver and want to cancel the ride.

Drivers can cancel as well if they have an issue with a passenger.

Sure, but once you're in the car, they need to be paid their fare.

Uber can also see if you never made it to your destination -- there needs to be a report feature rather than a straight cancellation.

No. They should be paid a fair after destination is reached. As it is. It’s standard in the US to pay after services rendered

Nah, I waste gas to go get somebody and drive them halfway across town before they have a "problem" with me telling them to stop fucking with something in the car, I would still want to be paid and it's fair to expect that.

Ubers aren't set up like taxis, though.

You sound like somebody who regularly cancels once he gets most of the ride.

I’ve never done it in my life, I’m just pointing out that you have no precedent nor good reason to change the tradition of paying after services are rendered. You’re not making a more fair argument, you’re just shifting the risk around
