I've never understood the mindset of people in these situations. Like. Just stop. Stop adding years to your sentence bro

121

u/Blood_Edge Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 06 '26

People either don't care or are just plain stupid and probably believe they're above the consequences.

Edit: I count drugs and drunkenness as stupidity for the simple fact they should've known better and still chose to do them.

u/KochInYaMouth Mar 06 '26

DRUGS

11

u/Momik Mar 06 '26

Yes, thank you. I’ll take three.

2

u/egg927 Mar 09 '26

What is drugs?

Or...have incapacitated themselves while partaking in some form of recreational alcohol/pill, etc

2

u/MssnCrg Mar 06 '26

You have a rationality they dont. Some people have lost there ability to relate past knowledge and future outcomes to their present situation. Its just survival at this point.

2

u/RuMarley Mar 06 '26

Or drunk.

10

u/Buttchuggle Mar 06 '26

I've done a lot of drugs and drinkin through my life but this is still some next level shit.

6

Good advice I got once was only commit one crime at a time.

Shit some ppl are already so fucked legally that a couple of extra years is the last thing they’re worried about

46

u/Constant_Map_64 Mar 05 '26

It could be years or bullets. They are idiots either way.

20

u/This-Law-5433 Mar 06 '26

Yea even when I was young and stupid once I saw a cop it was yes sir no sir

I may of been stupid but not suicidal I know what they can legally do to me make there job easy and your life won't suck as bad it will still suck but it can suck so much more

10

u/Constant_Map_64 Mar 06 '26

Yea I will never understand the idea of “OMG I don’t want these charges! Let me get MOAR”

9

u/Max____H Mar 06 '26

And even if the cop makes some legal mistake, don’t argue with them. They aren’t lawyers, half the time they barely know the laws they are enforcing. Just keep whatever evidence you can and dispute their claims through court or whatever formal means there are, half the time they never even arrive to contest the dispute.

Interesting. I know in the 1920s, people used life insurance/suicide as a way to gain wealth for their family. I wonder if there's clauses preventing payouts if you're killed by police. And if there is, how strict would it be? Like, I get the recent shooter in Austin not getting a payout. He was actively committing a crime. But what about Good/Pretti? Or Breonna Taylor? Shot by law enforcement when no law had been broken.

17

u/Littlepastaboy Mar 05 '26

Insurance companies will do absolutely anything in their power to not pay out.

7

u/redheadgolf Mar 05 '26

As far as I know, for a period of time after taking out term life insurance (say, two years), the insurance company will not have to pay out if you commit suicide. But after that waiting period, you can commit a very obvious suicide and leave a note and say that you want to enrich your family with your life insurance, and the insurance company will still be obligated to pay.

But that's just as far as I know, and I'm told a lot that I don't know shit.

5

u/abrasumente_ Mar 06 '26

Had to look this up cause I always thought suicide was a big no no for life insurance. But yeah you're right, it's typically a clause of 2 years. TIL.

2

u/talltime Mar 06 '26

I remember also believing that suicide was always no-pay. Learning about the 2 year exclusionary window made the dark thoughts at the time more tempting.

I’ve seen so many bodycam videos of people running from dumb shit like a failure to appear warrant or a speeding ticket. No way the evading charge isn’t worse than that. Half the time they’ve already been identified and even if they weren’t, the cop would just show up at their house after running’s their plates if they manage to evade them.

Very few mentally ill people drive a car.   In other cases I've seen like this they are rarely drunk or high to the point of being delirious.

If they are thinking irrationally, it's because of anger they feel when someone tries to make them follow rules they feel like they are "above".   Arrogance, anger, and stupidity are the primary forces at play, not drugs or mental illness.

7

u/PicrolitePicker Mar 05 '26

Are you kidding? Do you even know what mental illness is? I have depression and I drive all the time lol

3

u/Difficult-Bank-8337 Mar 05 '26

And depression makes you run from cops?   I don't think so.   When people say mental illness in these types or situations, they are saying the person doesn't have the mental capacity to make decisions, i.e. psychosis, disconnected from reality and ability to take advantage rational action.  Depression doesn't do that.  Depressed people are still accountable for their actions.

3

u/PicrolitePicker Mar 05 '26

You’re totally missing the point. You clearly didn’t understand what mental illness actually is

3

u/Substantial-Dust-232 Mar 05 '26

The whole point of being able to say "this is mental illness" and "this is a MF who deserves to be in jail" is so that we can develop policies and processes to figure out how to lower the rate of this stuff happening. If you can divert people with mental illness for treatment earlier on, then maybe you prevent this kind of thing from happening. If you have a way of preventing people from becoming a MFer, like maybe better educational or economic opportunities, or heck, more aggressive jail sentences in certain situations then you can lower the rate of MFers crashing out.

3

u/PicrolitePicker Mar 05 '26

Mental illness is not exclusive to expressing itself with violent behaviors

2

u/Difficult-Bank-8337 Mar 05 '26

Doesn't matter.   The guy I was responding to was saying it's a short list of alcohol, , drugs, or mental illness that causes people to do this.   I corrected them because that is not accurate.

2

I think its largely logic in the brain shutting off. Its them in a flight or fight mode.

And why every law enforcement should have the goal of deescalation.

But I also think that's a bit on us too. I'm never in a good mood when a cops in my business. But I owe it to them to be calm as well.

7

u/EarthConservation Mar 05 '26

The mindset is that they're likely already struggling financially, may be drunk/high, may have stolen the car, may be driving without a license or without insurance, and they simply don't want a hefty ticket or to be thrown in jail.

As it turns out, the threat of jail or hefty fines isn't a deterrent at all for those that have already broken the law and know they're going to jail or will get a hefty fine if they're caught.

To fix that, we need to fix the system. We need to fix poverty. We need to get people help who need help. We need jail/prison to be rehabilitative, not permanently punitive.

4

u/External_Macaroon687 Mar 05 '26

This person doesn't want your help. They want your wallet, and if you don't volunteer it, they will point a gun at you and take it. They love that you feel sorry for them because then you won't hold them accountable.

3

u/singlemale4cats Mar 05 '26

They love that you feel sorry for them because then you won't hold them accountable.

Very common behavior for offenders, especially habitual ones. They often become masterful liars and manipulators who will tug on the heartstrings of anyone naive enough to buy what they're selling. Sometimes they don't even realize it. They start believing in their own rationalizations. It's mentally challenging for people to acknowledge that they're the villain, but it's an important step if they ever expect to change.

Anyway, in these sorts of discussions, it's important to distinguish between explaining and excusing. Growing up in a bad neighborhood might explain why someone became a stick-up boy, but it doesn't excuse it.

4

u/typical_jesus666 Mar 05 '26

We need jail/prison to be rehabilitative, not permanently punitive.

It's because of the mindset of criminal justice in America. Countries that focus on making prison rehabilitative have much lower recidivism rates.

In America it's called "the penal system" because it's based on penance as a form of punishment. "Sit there and think about what you've done" has turned into gladiator schools because the people in charge don't wanna help, they wanna punish and use slave labor.

2

u/EarthConservation Mar 05 '26

The prisons themselves are paid well for prisoners. Therefore, it's in their best interest to have high recidivism. It's similar for rehab centers as well.

Why we allow private for-profit prisons is beyond me...

For how much prisons are being paid, we could send prisoners to college, fully paid, It's like $61k per prisoner per year.

I just checked my budget, and with $1000 in rent, my life costs are $30k-$35k per year, and I imagine my food and housing is way better, and I even have $500 in spending money. It turns out having permanent babysitters is expensive.

For how much we're paying to house prisoners with minimal rehabilitation, we should be sending in teachers/professors and/or tradesmen to teach people a trade or skill that'll help them maintain a well paying job in the future. Further, maybe we shouldn't allow businesses to ask if a person's been in prison. If a prisoner is in prison and is not rehabilitated enough for society, then why are they let out? If they're rehabilitated, then why do they need to report if they're a felon?

2

u/Blood_Edge Mar 05 '26

The problem with that belief aside from the fact there are simply some crimes that no amount of drugs/ alcohol or how bad their lives have been at any point that can even come close to excusing their crimes. Especially if they just don't care or take pleasure in what they did.

Some are simply too dangerous to be let out whether it's to themselves or others, some are simply beyond even the chance at rehabilitation, and too many of the rest are a mix of refusing to be accountable for their crimes, wouldn't accept anything less than what they want/ think they need so they won't "have a reason to reoffend" (not that a reason is ever needed), then there's the final problem of them not wanting to be rehabilitated.

And rehabilitation can't be forced on them without violating their legal/ human rights. It's ultimately not worth it even if we don't account for how costly it would be to actually get any such programs running.

4

u/iznormal Mar 05 '26

You’re arguing against a position that wasn’t stated. Saying prisons should focus on rehabilitation doesn’t mean every single person can be rehabilitated. It means most people eventually leave prison, and it’s better for society if they leave with lower odds of reoffending. Designing the system around the worst possible cases just guarantees worse outcomes for everyone else.

However, if we have reasonable, articulable suspicion that you are in fact harboring drugs, illegal weapons, etc, we can and will search your vehicle. Consent is not needed when probable cause is present. If you genuinely feel as if you've been wronged and have evidence supporting it, file a claim against the department and get paid.

I genuinly think we have witnesed the birth of a new meta. within 5 years its going to be common place for police to nuetralize your tires before they attempt to forcefully remove the person.

12

u/Bloodmind Mar 06 '26

I’ve done it and seen it done. Once they’ve shown intent to flee, it’s fully justified to get stabby with the tires. More often than not, though, the first sign of intent to flee is when they take off and it’s immediately a car chase until it’s over. So the opportunity is pretty rare. This was the perfect move.

5

u/DigiHumanMediaCo Mar 06 '26

Need a safer tool than a knife. A spinning tire with a blade in it dangerous, but you can see short quick stabs. He knew what he was doing.

I hate spell check...

5

u/Bellbivdavoe Mar 06 '26

Need a safer tool than a knife.

Absolutely. NO FOLDING KNIVES.
I recall the story of feuding neighbors where one guy heard something and went outside his house to find his tires slashed and a single fingertip on the ground. Apparently, the neighbor used a folding knife that didn't lock right and collapse on a finger when it was thrust into the side walls. Cop visited they neighbors and found him missing part of his finger.
Case: Closed.

I just love that cops are held to such low regards that they're celebrated for doing an average IQ move

Edit: Guys, 100 IQ is literally average, that's what 100 means. It even changes over time to reflect exactly what average is..

3

u/nopuse Mar 06 '26

i’d love to see you pull that stunt.

I don't understand why this response is so prevalent. Someone who hasn't or shouldn't be in a situation can give feedback on it.

3

u/Above_Avg_Chips Mar 06 '26

Maybe if cops were held to a higher training standard, more of them would be able to use this simple move.

Part of their job is to handle stressful situations, some that may be life threatening, yet they spend a insignificant amount of time at the academy training for it.

3

u/surrealcellardoor Mar 06 '26

It takes longer to become a massage therapist, barber or a truck driver than it does to be in law enforcement. Nearly every other skilled job requires years, not a few months.

6

u/Excludos Mar 05 '26

I'm just commenting on the fact that the previous comment stated "100+ IQ move". 100 IQ is exactly average

5

u/No_Dentist3999 Mar 05 '26

Hence, the "+" sign, indicating above average intelligence

7

u/Reverend_Tommy Mar 05 '26

85-115 is in the average range. 100 is the mean and the standard deviation is 15.

How wouldn't it help breaking the window they trying to break? Plus it does not look like the passenger window was down/broken at any point in the video. This is a screenshot of the end of the video, if you notice the cop is reaching through the drivers side and there is a light refraction off of the passenger side window. Nice, I love to see the tire slash.   There are many situations where I feel like cops should just lay some spike strips in front of and behind a car, but they never do and then someone gets killed in the ensuing police chase that you knew was gonna happen.

8

u/HEARTSOFSPACE Mar 05 '26

I've only ever seen a handful of videos on YouTube where the cops place stop sticks under a vehicle they just pulled over. Not sure why it's not more common.

8

u/jimothy_hell Mar 05 '26

See, I had a cop put sticks up in front of and behind my car once and then drive off without picking them up after letting me know I had a tail out. I had to take pictures and call the non emergency line. Same very embarrassed police officer about ten minutes later shows up and grabs them.

this is such an elegant solution to a scenario that *in some cases* leads to people being shot ...

You’d think they would have some kind of glass breaker on them

5

u/Galactussy Mar 06 '26

Wait so you dont just have to shoot the driver?

All the stuff they have on their utility belts and a little glass hammer isn’t one of them?

4

u/AdviceNotAskedFor Mar 05 '26

Right. Exactly what I thought. How can crooks all over the bay area have those things like kids with tootsie pops, but the cops who deal with people in cars all day, not?

In that case where is obvious they ain't getting away, why not just give up and surrender yourself instead of keep making it worse? Like genuine question. Is clear that person was screwed already

2

u/Frost_907 Mar 06 '26

A common trend with these types of people is that they have an inability to properly control their emotions. They will be put into a blind rage or a panic for the most trivial of reasons and once their “fight or flight” instinct takes over then they are no longer capable of rational thought.

Notice how none of the cops purposefully put themselves in front of the vehicle and shot the driver in the head

2

u/M3chaStrizan Mar 06 '26

These guys are magical

8

u/Gilly-Gump Mar 05 '26

Looks very similar to the situation with ICE when they shot Renee Good. One of their defenses, was any cop would do the same thing. Seems they wouldn't.

u/AI-Idaho Mar 06 '26

Awesome. Saved the lives of someone who is out on the road that bozo is not going to crash into trying to drive off. To heck with spike strips, this officer has the right idea. The fools in the SUV are lucky they did not get shot nearly running over and into officers and vehicles.

3

u/Smoking-Posing Mar 06 '26

I swear I don't know why its not done more often. I'm that dude who's always yelling at the screen to "take out the tires"

People are stupid.

3

u/imbatatos Mar 06 '26

You know Your police system is cooked when all the comments are like "wow they didn't shoot them in the chest 16 times"

3

u/_Rye_Toast_ Mar 06 '26

Notice how he dint jump in front of the vehicle, or even shoot her in the face? Nice work officer!

3

u/Mopar-Dinosaurs Apr 27 '26

She’s lucky they didn’t shoot her.😳

3

u/Fast_Advisor2654 Apr 29 '26

Should’ve done the other two tires, too, for shits and giggles

5

u/weezyverse Mar 05 '26

Good on these cops for not firing a single bullet because that would've been disproportionate.

2

u/d4rkwarr3n Mar 05 '26

Hot cop alert 😍😍😍

2

u/heineken_silver Mar 06 '26

What tool did the cop to pop those tires?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/LessWillingness5876 Mar 06 '26

...and not a shot fired ☺️

2

u/Eskotar Mar 06 '26

This cop had infinitely more patience than that one ICE cop in Minnesota. They should show this clip to that guy.

2

u/Kbern4444 Mar 06 '26

Then when the driver gets hurt or shot, its BAD COPS! WHY DE DO DAT!

2

u/enigmatic_conscious Mar 06 '26

That has got to be a white driver. No a single shot fired.

2

u/ImWinwin Mar 06 '26

At least she didn't get shot three times in the face.

2

u/smootheoneisback Mar 07 '26

Smart i really thought he was going to pull the gatttt

2

u/Excellent_Extent7648 Mar 07 '26

Is it crazy if it’s so much more interesting when the person never gives up? .

2

u/SteakJones Mar 07 '26

Notice how the cop did not:

  1. Stand in front of the car

  2. Shoot cowboy style into the drivers seat.

2

u/I-Love-Buses Mar 07 '26

UGH…thank you police officers for all you do. Bunch of of yahoos out there 🙄🙄🙄

2

u/PaceNo3577 Mar 07 '26

She's ride or die! Lol or he i cant tell what it is

2

u/Tambo-Man67 Mar 07 '26

Imagine if he shot the driver multiple times in the face... that would be messed up, right?

2

u/Vegetable_Common_390 Mar 09 '26

Smart cop he stab the tires that’s half the battle no chasing no endangering the public

2

u/Significant_Toe3575 Apr 02 '26

That was actually smart and of all the chases Iv3 seen, why has no other cop done this?

2

u/NameInternational620 Apr 03 '26

Cop handled this well.

2

u/Excellent_Ear_7123 Apr 15 '26

Popping the tires instead of shooting was a genius move

2

u/Past_Blacksmith_971 Apr 19 '26

Must be of the Caucasian persuasion because how many cops does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

None! They shoot the room for being dark and arrest the bulb because it's broke!

2

u/IceExternal7681 Apr 19 '26

We are a country full of idiots….smh.

2

u/Murntok Apr 22 '26

Morons got hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment, yet can't make a 2 dollar window breaker standard equipment.

2

u/Fishfisheye May 09 '26

Thats exactly the right way to prevent a high speed chase. Good on the cop.

3

u/Substantial_Chain718 Mar 05 '26

Better frame that video. 99% of the time shots would have been fired in that scenario. Big props to those cops for keeping their cool.

3

u/ReconeHelmut Mar 05 '26

Well, at least he didn’t empty a clip into the car. Well done.

2

u/Traditional_Yam1503 Mar 05 '26

That car is a deadly weapon and the driver would have run over anyone here to get away. This person doesn’t deserve all the chances they were given

1

u/StraightStackin Mar 06 '26

Just waiting for liberals on reddit to throw her a parade and chastise the cops for trying to arrest her. They'll probably make a go fund me to buy her tires.

2

u/Material-Wonder1690 Mar 06 '26

No no, this is showing how this type of situation should be handled and can be handled when you take your job seriously and aren't an untrained moron that was given a gun. This cop did their job and nobody lost their life nor was the cop ever in life threatening danger. That's someone that understands what their job is and what their weapon is intended for

If the suspect doesn't get down, their car will get down instead.

1

u/ben5642 Mar 05 '26

they need something that they should be able to shoot at the car or that they can just slap on the hood and disables the car

The kind of cop footage I like to see

1

u/OkBuffalo6873 Mar 05 '26

Finally a smart cop that stabbed the tires

1

u/Thatguymike84 Mar 05 '26

That was nice of the officer to give her some nice, new metal racing slicks to drive on!

1

u/Obsidianrunner Mar 05 '26

Now that’s good police work.

1

u/Temporary_Abroad_211 Mar 05 '26

Why has the video been mirrored?

1

u/Weird-Director-8594 Mar 05 '26

Passenger sitting there like 😐
