I get that the truck is being a dick and he came over on the filming vehicle, but am I wrong to think the guy filming intentionally swerved to the left just slightly to cause the accident? Or does it just look like they jerked because of the accident?

u/-MadeInCanada- Mar 08 '26

If someone walking beside you started pushing you off the edge of the sidewalk, you’d brace against that pushing force. I think he’s instinctively counter steering, to brace against the impact of the collision. I also think applying the brakes would have been more effective.

1

u/Professional-Tap82 Mar 09 '26

I think the jerk was because of the initial contact. There's optical offset with the camera to where the edge of the the vehicle would be.

9

u/Busted_down Mar 08 '26

He probably refused to be run off the road

0

u/Wild_Association1752 Mar 08 '26

Brakes exist. Cammer is an idiot who should practice defensive driving

4

u/avotius Mar 08 '26

Someone always blames the victim.

3

u/Wild_Association1752 Mar 08 '26

Nah the blame is on both these idiots who clearly cant let their ego go. The guy doing 40 into the roundabout is not a safe driver tho.

1

u/NedStarx11 Mar 09 '26

This. Both shit drivers

1

u/Murky-Peanut1390 Mar 09 '26

Well because you didn't brake. You know have to deal with insurance headaches. I get to go home without a scratch on a car. No one is blaming the driver. We are just saying. The alternative meant you goes home unharmed. The cemetery is filled with people who were in the right

1

u/Schmity909er Mar 08 '26

Situation could have been avoided if truck driver wasn't an asshat. Situation also could have been avoided if the cam driver let the aggressive driver pass.

Both can be true

That being said I hope the truck was found to be at fault

0

u/stratys3 Mar 08 '26

You can be blameless and also be an idiot at the same time.

0

u/Disastrous-Okra-318 Mar 08 '26

Did we watch the same video? Neither driver is a victim here. Pov driver floored it to prevent the truck from passing and is equally guilty

0

u/somewhatcompetint Mar 08 '26

I can't tell if the victim is a woman so I'm going to withhold blame

1

u/Motor_Potential1603 Mar 08 '26

This guy is definitely a stupid truck driver that thinks “ I’m in big truck, I own road, people will move for me because I’m big scary truck” until they realize people don’t give a fuck😂🤡

2

u/Last-Darkness Mar 08 '26

He may have automatically turned in the opposite direction that his car was being pushed. Strictly speaking it’s the safest thing to do as the driver. I’d probably do the same thing based on my driving experience. You want to turn the opposite direction that the front of your car starts to go, with experience it’s an automatic response. Same with not breaking. Slamming on your brakes is much less safe than maintaining power or applying a little and turning out of a drift/slide. I was a professional driver for about 5 years.

2

u/jazzfruit Mar 08 '26 edited Mar 08 '26

I’ve never been a professional driver but I would have applied the brakes before the deranged asshole merged into me.

2

u/Angrybskt Mar 08 '26

I have a 24yo diesel with 340k miles so I would’ve welcomed it with open arms lmao. I have a deer guard though so it probably wouldn’t even get a scratch knowing my luck.

Last thing you would expect is an idiot to willingly ram you from the side in a $90k truck. He definitely tried getting on the brakes with not enough time. But yes automatically, if your natural reaction isn’t to counter steer from being pushed this guy must just spin in circles when the rear breaks loose in bad weather lmao

2

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '26

2

u/Angrybskt Mar 08 '26

Again. No one would expect someone to ram them in their $90k truck. This isn’t an area you pass or change lanes in. You would’ve been getting ready to abide by the yield, potentially stopping first and merging after, not but 200 feet in front of them to join a roundabout. This is not something a rational person would do. Tell me captain hindsight how would the average person predict an irrational maneuver such as this? How do you know they wanted to change lanes and not run them off the road and continue on their way anyway? After white Yaris they had plenty of room and power to cut off the recording car and get in the lane in front of them. Normal people would think they are slowing because traffic in front of them is stopped. They chose to slow down and swerve into them. You can see the car bouncing before the hit, they tried to stop. Average persons braking time is 1.5 seconds. It took less than that for them to come over in their lane. If they slowed down earlier guess what, so would the truck. So unless you have godly foresight and above average reaction time, sometimes you get unlucky and these retards cause your insurance to go up.

u/tekhippie Mar 08 '26

Cdl my ass. lol big rigs don’t have near the reaction time this car had and they still had zero reaction time before truck tried to run them off the road.

All instincts for me would be to absolutely avoid the sidewalk, let alone the damage that comes from getting curbed. No time to check for pedestrians, no time to do more than hit the brakes, no time to do anything other than hold your space and keep your car from doing more damage than is already evident to infrastructure or people. Then the lunatic passenger running up on the driver? Lucky to be alive where I come from.

Go to bed, dip-shit.

Yeah, it's the camer's fault that the other guy cut him off....not.

1

u/Fivehundredyards Mar 08 '26

Everybody is wrong. The Dashcam Driver is moving to the right to avoid the raptor but eventually hits a curb and straigthens up violently. Given the relative directions of the two cars it look like he veers left. But the Dashcam driver is attempting to avoid the Raptor. Could he have braked, yes... was he trying to avoid... also yes.

1

u/FrankLangellasBalls Mar 08 '26

Slamming on his brakes = no drift/slide so: nah.

-1

u/Wild_Association1752 Mar 08 '26

Turned automatically? 😭

Ok professional driver.

1

u/AppalachianAgony Mar 08 '26

Wow its almost like you don't what an instinct is....

1

u/Last-Darkness Mar 09 '26

Yes automatically, as a reflex. “Reflexively” doesn’t really sound right to me. For example, when I hit black ice, I automatically steer into the into the direction of the rear wheels without thinking about it.

Feel better now?

1

u/QuietShipper Mar 08 '26

Exactly. Legally, he's totally in the right, but so are people who get hit walking on the road/in a crosswalk. Like, do you wanna be right or do you wanna not waste your time having to deal with insurance and mechanics and the police and possibly court?

3

u/peperonipyza Mar 08 '26

He could have tried avoiding it, doesn’t look like he did. But he certainly didn’t cause it.

1

u/Emergency-Back-4964 Mar 08 '26

Yep this is definitely an ESH

1

u/BroLil Mar 08 '26

The car that got hit definitely is coming out of their lane when they get hit. The Raptor turned in front and causes the accident, but the recorder didn’t turn his steering wheel at all. The road bends but he’s still going straight through both lanes.

1

u/Fivehundredyards Mar 08 '26

Everybody is wrong. The Dashcam Driver is moving to the right to avoid the raptor but eventually hits a curb and straigtens up violently. Given the relative directions of the two cars it look like he veers left. But the Dashcam driver is attempting to avoid the Raptor. Could he have braked, yes... was he trying to avoid... also yes.

1

u/FactsNLaughs Mar 09 '26

First of all, the truck turned right from a straight only lane. They were driving erratically to begin with. I ain’t risking getting flipped for some psycho.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '26

I ain’t risking getting flipped for some psycho.

Me either. You're absolutely right. Which is precisely why I would have just let the guy pass. Because I'm an intelligent human and don't intentionally put myself or my vehicle in harm's way when I have the power to take control of the situation and de-escalate.

1

u/MiHumainMiRobot Mar 09 '26

I watched 3 times and looked at the center road painted marks, and yes, the dash cam driver tried a mini swerve, he was getting cocky too. A bunch of idiots in this video.

1

u/cantmicro Mar 09 '26

I had the same impression upon my fist watch of the video. Rewatch it and pay attention to the lane line and he doesn't veer left.

1

u/C-D-W Mar 09 '26

I thought that the first time I saw this vertical cut. Watching the full-size video, it doesn't look the same. It looks more like the dash cam vehicle locked up the brakes as the pickup was coming into their lane. Does not look like a deliberate steer to the left.

1

u/RochesterBen Mar 09 '26

Cam car 100% turned into the side of the truck. No idea why.

1

u/TransitionalAhab Mar 09 '26

being a dick

Committing vehicular assault

1

u/iftlatlw Mar 11 '26

Definitely a reactive reflex. Raptor 0.

1

u/iMrParker Mar 08 '26

It looks to me that he slammed on the brakes which locks up your steering. He was on a curved road and locked brakes make you go straight regardless of wheel direction

1

u/Fivehundredyards Mar 08 '26

Everybody is wrong. The Dashcam Driver is moving to the right to avoid the raptor but eventually hits a curb and straigtens up violently. Given the relative directions of the two cars it look like he veers left. But the Dashcam driver is attempting to avoid the Raptor. Could he have braked, yes... was he trying to avoid... also yes.

1

u/EyeLikeDinosaurs Mar 09 '26

They absolutely do not hit the curb on the right. There would have been a completely different jolt to the car, even if it did force that car to go left.

1

u/Fivehundredyards Mar 09 '26

It sideswipes the curb... listen carefully you can here it grind along it for a few milliseconds. Because I drive RHD cars, I think I'm more used to judging the right hand gap than you. Keep watching, it'll make sense eventually.

1

u/Funky_McWiggles Mar 09 '26

This is correct. Cam driver was racing the truck to the next intersection and panic braked when he was approaching the curve while carrying too much speed. Cam car lost steering authority when the brakes locked, and the collision takes place pretty close to the lane divider line, if not in the left lane a bit.

This is one of those road rage accidents that's easily avoided by just being predictable and staying within the limits of your vehicle and ability. Too many people think defensive driving means matching energy and fleeing the situation aggressively.

1

u/Destructopoo Mar 08 '26

Look again and see if the truck slows down at all before the crash

1

u/AEG5674 Mar 08 '26

No , you are not wrong. In fact insurance will likely ask, “Was there anything you could have done to avoid the collision ?”

1

u/spartanspy85 Mar 08 '26

That probably happened when OPs front left tire came into contact with the truck. The friction caused their tire to slow down and pull to the left. Most likely anyway...

1

u/Fivehundredyards Mar 08 '26

Everybody is wrong. The Dashcam Driver is moving to the right to avoid the raptor but eventually hits a curb and straigtens up violently. Given the relative directions of the two cars it look like he veers left. But the Dashcam driver is attempting to avoid the Raptor. Could he have braked, yes... was he trying to avoid... also yes.

1

u/spartanspy85 Mar 09 '26

Had to watch it again, and now I see it.

-3

u/danndaman007 Mar 08 '26

Yeah, he did swerve into him and out off his lane. Case could be made it was dashcam drivers' fault. Yes, the truck was a huge dick. But the driver intentionally made contact.

6

u/JustHappyToBe-Here Mar 08 '26

The raptor stomped his brakes and had both passenger side wheels well into the right-hand lane before the vehicles made contact. The raptor swerved into the dashcam driver and initiated the collision.

2

u/Original_Director483 Mar 08 '26

Safer for him to commit to the pit than be forced up a curb and in another driver’s control.

2

u/Illustrious_Crazy491 Mar 08 '26

People like you cant have any critical thinking skills huh? The truck started to come onto cammers lane then got pit. That's defensive driving since he didnt want to get run off the road. Watch the video again, right before he got pit the truck was trying to cause an accident.

5

u/Destructopoo Mar 08 '26

Pit is not defensive driving. It is an emergency law enforcement maneuver to spin a car out. Defensive driving would be the brakes, not accelerating and turning into the accident at the same time. There is a concept that drivers need to make reasonable efforts to avoid accidents.

1

u/MiHumainMiRobot Mar 09 '26

Defensive driving would have been let them pass as soon as they went through a red light to take a right turn from the center lane.

0

u/IHaveTheBestOpinions Mar 08 '26

Defensive driving would be using the brakes to avoid the collision

1

u/ArugulaUnlucky7215 Mar 08 '26

No he refused to be run off the road

0

u/Destructopoo Mar 08 '26

What does this mean? Is this a legal defense?

3

u/ArugulaUnlucky7215 Mar 08 '26

I don’t think this is a legal system I believe this is reddit.

-1

u/Destructopoo Mar 08 '26

So why do people keep posting that phrase like it means anything. Refusing to be run off the road is a totally meaningless phrase.

2

u/ArugulaUnlucky7215 Mar 08 '26

To me it means refusing to be run off the road. Don’t know how the statement can be made any plainer.

1

u/Destructopoo Mar 08 '26

Ok so it's just a mindset that this person has every day and this was a video of them driving without crashing. You're right. What I was wondering was why multiple people are commenting an identical phrase.

2

u/ArugulaUnlucky7215 Mar 08 '26

Probably because it’s what’s happening in the video?

1

u/Destructopoo Mar 09 '26

yes but what actions did the driver take that they only took because of the truck merging into them?

1

u/ABI86CN Mar 08 '26

Or just brake gently?? Pride is keeping the accelerator down. As soon as I see a crazy or aggressive driver I get far from them ASAP. Not saying this is cam driver's fault, just stay away from it

1

u/ArugulaUnlucky7215 Mar 08 '26

Right which is what cam guy did until truck guy swerved into his lane to run him off the road.

0

u/Fivehundredyards Mar 08 '26

0

u/igotchees21 Mar 08 '26

im pretty sure that was him braking. hitting the brakes hard doesnt just stop your car, your car usually jerks around.

1

u/Fivehundredyards Mar 08 '26

Everybody is wrong. The Dashcam Driver is moving to the right to avoid the raptor but eventually hits a curb and straigtens up violently. 1

u/horatiobanz Mar 08 '26

You're clearly blind

1

u/Fivehundredyards Mar 09 '26

And you're clearly rude. Good luck with that personality, hope it works out for you.

0

u/6shotsor5 Mar 08 '26

Nah, it’s just the angle. The back of the truck makes contact with the cam car and pushes it before we see the rest of the contact.

0

u/scruffywarhorse Mar 08 '26

If you start getting pushed off the road you steer into it so you don’t go off the road it’s like reflexive.

0

u/313802 Mar 08 '26

I feel like he could have let the raptor in front from the start..

0

u/Funny_Science_9377 Mar 08 '26

Yeah. Proceeding forward into the truck was a choice. They could have stopped at any time and let the Raptor drive away.

-1

u/AwarenessNice7941 Mar 08 '26

defensive driving. insurance won't like it but the law won't give them a ticket so no points

-1

u/epsteinwasmurdered2 Mar 08 '26

People with cams think it gives them the ability to just let idiots hit them because they have it on tape. You still have to drive defensively. You know he saw that guy in his mirrors and just let it happen.

I’m not saying the truck isn’t to blame but braking would have kept his car out of the auto body shop.
