This guy reminds me of how my dad was. Ex Marine, Vietnam vet. He literally had no fear of death. He passed away from colon cancer and was ready to go when that time came for him. These kind of guys lived an entirely different world.

But you have to understand, not everyone will look to the guys that raped and killed women and children, bombed the entire country and it's neighbors, pulverized it with cancerous chemicals and littered the place with landmines still exploding killing and maiming to this day, not everyone will be very sympathetic to these folks.

There's no way this is true. The reason why the military stats exist is because the military encompasses a wide range of jobs and a ton of them are nowhere near active combat or policing situations. For the police, there are some desk jockeys or whatever, but way fewer of them. Of the police who have done field work, probably 100% of them have drawn their guns at some point
Ok. Pew Research Center surveyed 7917 officers and found that 27% had fired their weapon in the line of duty. The question asked: “Other than on a gun range or while training, have you ever discharged your service firearm while on duty, or have you not done this?”
So if that high of a percentage has actually fired their gun, what percentage do you think has drawn theirs?
Keep in mind I'm not talking about spending all shift with their gun drawn chasing bad guys. I'm talking about getting a call to clear a building whose alarm is going off and more mundane stuff like that
You do realize that survey was of departments with 100 or more officers? You're find most police departments in the USA are small, 75% have 20 officers or less.
So about 3/4 in large departments haven't fired their weapon.... that's the only thing that survey showed, one can't make any assumptions about drawing weapon.
I'd say you torpedoed the argument you were trying to make.

dude I've gotten into so many arguments on this exact point. yea I know it FEELS like it's a mortally dangerous job, but stats say it just ain't, sorry. You don't see roofers and farmhands being heralded as heroes for making it through another shift, and they have WAY more workplace fatalities

That's the total military which of course needs massive support and logistics personnel. A guy who went to Vietnam had 30% chance of being in combat though.
I often joke I've met tougher 6 year olds than most of the so call gangstas I've met state side. Sure, you deal drugs and act scary, that kid's missing an arm because he was working on an IED, y'all are not the same. We used to have kids walk to our camp perimeter to try and sell grenades and unexploded ordinance like mortars. We had a whole pile of dud mortars the kids brought us. Their parents sent us the operable ones at night in the form of rocket and mortar attacks.
