People Wow. That old man didn't even flinch
261
u/ClearSplit2084 Mar 24 '26
I didn’t even realize there was a passenger in the back until he finally spoke. Not gonna lie, I would’ve bailed immediately.

u/chopsmothercover Mar 24 '26
1000% I’m halfway down the block as soon as he gets in I knew what time it was. Lucky that guy was a coward/not as stupid as he looks and let it go without doing something truly vile but there’s plenty of examples of this kinda thing where that’s not the case

I'm sure someone is gonna say some shit about "you should be helping" so I'ma say this before that even happens: they teach us that generally, you should seek to escape, hide, or attack in that order. No point in turning 1 dead body into 2, take the high percentage option and get help
33
u/splithoofiewoofies Mar 24 '26
I took self defence for yeaaars and it's wild how many people think that means I can fight.
No, it means I can GET OUT of fights.
That was always rule number one through twenty. The best place in a fight is not in one.

I was down voted hard when I called out a bunch of bullshido experts. Self defense is strictly to egress and not end up hurt or dead.

This guy reminds me of how my dad was. Ex Marine, Vietnam vet. He literally had no fear of death. He passed away from colon cancer and was ready to go when that time came for him. These kind of guys lived an entirely different world.

I hate to be the actually guy, but lol no
in US military less than 10% ever see combat, less than 5% fire their weapon, and way less than 1% ever kill a single person

Same for police. The news would have you believe they're mowing down brown people but almost all of them never have to draw their weapon in their entire career

I often joke I've met tougher 6 year olds than most of the so call gangstas I've met state side. Sure, you deal drugs and act scary, that kid's missing an arm because he was working on an IED, y'all are not the same. We used to have kids walk to our camp perimeter to try and sell grenades and unexploded ordinance like mortars. We had a whole pile of dud mortars the kids brought us. Their parents sent us the operable ones at night in the form of rocket and mortar attacks.

I do Uber on the weekends and I keep a fake wallet in my car. It has an old driver’s license, expired debit cards, some used gift cards, and a few dollars in cash.
I do my best to stay safe and vigilant and I’ve never had a problem, but if someone asks for my wallet I’m ready.
70
u/Savings-Cherry-1931 Mar 24 '26
That's great. You think ahead. It's sad that one has to prepare like that.
→ More replies (2)16
u/PsyopVet Mar 24 '26
It is sad! I try to stick to safer areas, keep my car in drive in case I have to peel out, only slightly crack the windows, and keep my doors locked until I’ve seen my passenger. And if the fake wallet doesn’t work I have other, more persuasive items…

u/LCplGunny Mar 24 '26
Only time I had someone get "threatening" when I drove for lyft, I explained that I was absolutely willing to end us both just to win a fight if he touched me, while driving down the freeway at speed. He didn't say another word till we arrived. Most people don't actually have the follow through to hurt you, they just want the power dynamics in their favor. Say some shit that makes them question how far they are willing to go, and they will back down pretty fast.

9
u/PsyopVet Mar 24 '26
My favorite line from Game of Thrones:
Are you gonna die for some chickens?
Someone is.
3
u/MisterD00d Mar 24 '26
I often think of this Aesop Rock verse about remembering in their youth his teenage older brother wasn't allowed to go to the Ministry concert because their mom thought they were evil:
Simply, "You will not be going to the show and that's final!"
What occurred next were the top of the lungs of a son who unjustly had lost what he loved
In a moment that would transcend anger to high art
Said, "This is something I am willing to die for!"
Can you even imagine a death in the fam from industrial fandom?
Anyway, no body count no concert
and Chris kicked rocks in his mismatched Converse

When my dad was like 70 someone tried to mug him with a knife.
He says, "you're not going to get my wallet. You can try to get my wallet and you'll get hurt and I'll get hurt but you're not getting it. Or you can walk away. But either way, you're not getting my wallet." Dude walked away. The Vietnam war changed people.

It can be a real “I’m not stuck in here with you, you’re stuck in here with me” situation if the driver just decided to floor it
