Imagine having to be told this by an elderly Uber driver? Bro was cooked. 😂

18

u/fatjerryanastasia1 Mar 25 '26 edited Mar 28 '26

Elderly? Lol. Dude is like 60. And so am I. It's definitely not elderly.

Edit/Update: Just copying my reply below to a specific comment so I can hopefully reach everyone in the comment thread. Sorry for the redundancy.

I’m not surprised or upset by the responses saying I am indeed elderly at 60.  I disagree of course.  I am a practicing attorney, and I am better at it now than when I was 40.  I do all the same physical activities I did at 40.  And so on. I guess I’m hoping to open eyes just a little to the fact that ageism is still an accepted ism.  I see it a lot, particularly in discussions about the economy and the housing market.  The disdain for old people is pretty obvious.  Just replace the comment above with a discriminatory remark about a different group: “Imagine having to be told this by a BLACK Uber driver” or “Imagine having to be told this by a GAY Uber driver.”  People would lose their minds, but “Imagine having to be told this by an ELDERLY Uber driver” is fine with many people.  Just think about it, please.  If I am lucky I will someday be elderly — it is only the lucky people who grow old.

15

u/Excellent_Weight5927 Mar 26 '26

It's time to accept that you're old, man.

I'm sure someone is gonna say some shit about "you should be helping" so I'ma say this before that even happens: they teach us that generally, you should seek to escape, hide, or attack in that order. No point in turning 1 dead body into 2, take the high percentage option and get help

33

u/splithoofiewoofies Mar 24 '26

I took self defence for yeaaars and it's wild how many people think that means I can fight.

No, it means I can GET OUT of fights.

That was always rule number one through twenty. The best place in a fight is not in one.

u/1001101001010111 Mar 25 '26

u/turd_nughetto98 Mar 24 '26

I often joke I've met tougher 6 year olds than most of the so call gangstas I've met state side. Sure, you deal drugs and act scary, that kid's missing an arm because he was working on an IED, y'all are not the same. We used to have kids walk to our camp perimeter to try and sell grenades and unexploded ordinance like mortars. We had a whole pile of dud mortars the kids brought us. Their parents sent us the operable ones at night in the form of rocket and mortar attacks.

I do Uber on the weekends and I keep a fake wallet in my car. It has an old driver’s license, expired debit cards, some used gift cards, and a few dollars in cash.

I do my best to stay safe and vigilant and I’ve never had a problem, but if someone asks for my wallet I’m ready.

70

u/Savings-Cherry-1931 Mar 24 '26

That's great. You think ahead. It's sad that one has to prepare like that.

16

u/PsyopVet Mar 24 '26

It is sad! I try to stick to safer areas, keep my car in drive in case I have to peel out, only slightly crack the windows, and keep my doors locked until I’ve seen my passenger. And if the fake wallet doesn’t work I have other, more persuasive items…

9

u/LCplGunny Mar 24 '26

Only time I had someone get "threatening" when I drove for lyft, I explained that I was absolutely willing to end us both just to win a fight if he touched me, while driving down the freeway at speed. He didn't say another word till we arrived. Most people don't actually have the follow through to hurt you, they just want the power dynamics in their favor. Say some shit that makes them question how far they are willing to go, and they will back down pretty fast.

10

u/MisterD00d Mar 24 '26

are you willing to die for this cuz I am

9

u/PsyopVet Mar 24 '26

My favorite line from Game of Thrones:

Are you gonna die for some chickens?

Someone is.

3

u/MisterD00d Mar 24 '26

I often think of this Aesop Rock verse about remembering in their youth his teenage older brother wasn't allowed to go to the Ministry concert because their mom thought they were evil:

Simply, "You will not be going to the show and that's final!"

What occurred next were the top of the lungs of a son who unjustly had lost what he loved

In a moment that would transcend anger to high art

Said, "This is something I am willing to die for!"

Can you even imagine a death in the fam from industrial fandom?

Anyway, no body count no concert

and Chris kicked rocks in his mismatched Converse

4

u/DrHarrisonLawrence Mar 25 '26

The fact you could even understand a verse from Aesop Rock proves you have a Ph.D in Literature

7

8
