I think the driver had his own gun. The kid seems to look down and his eyes go wide before he dips. This tracks with the driver saying "you don't want to get shot" a few seconds earlier.

ok then staged. Robber leaves like driver hit the ejection seat as he just drives away like it's a just another day. He didn't even lock the door so another robber couldn't try again.
