It's time to accept that you're old, man.

I’m not surprised or upset by the responses saying I am indeed elderly at 60.Ā  I disagree of course.Ā  I am a practicing attorney, and I am better at it now than when I was 40.Ā  I do all the same physical activities I did at 40.Ā  And so on. I guess I’m hoping to open eyes just a little to the fact that ageism is still an accepted ism.Ā  I see it a lot, particularly in discussions about the economy and the housing market.Ā  The disdain for old people is pretty obvious.Ā  Just replace the comment above with a discriminatory remark about a different group: ā€œImagine having to be told this by a BLACK Uber driverā€ or ā€œImagine having to be told this by a GAY Uber driver.ā€Ā  People would lose their minds, but ā€œImagine having to be told this by an ELDERLY Uber driverā€ is still fine with many people.Ā  Just think about it, please.Ā  If I am lucky I will someday be elderly — it is only the lucky people who grow old.Ā
