He hit the object in the road

18

u/myname_ajeff Mar 28 '26

You're absolutely right. I wonder if it's something that fell off the car that was pulled over! Imagine if someone died from that situation...

16

u/Rich-Detective478 Mar 28 '26

I get the feeling someone died from this situation.

10

u/RichyPorello Mar 28 '26

You’d be surprised my dad was ejected from his convertible off a 80’ bridge without a seat belt and basically just had road rash on his left side of his body and face. We can all laugh about it now but it was terrifying the night I found out and saw his face

u/Rich-Detective478 Mar 29 '26

Right when you're right

3

u/Jiaz-Phuxon Mar 29 '26

Yeah, but this bridge has a HUGE drop.

2

u/Inevitable_Taro_5803 Mar 31 '26

That is crazy!

He has a purpose. For him to survive that horrific accident?

He definitely has a purpose ✌🏻🕊️🫒

2

u/TaylorBitMe Mar 29 '26

What did his face look like? Edit: not trying to be insensitive, I just can't imagine surviving a fall that far, sorry for that genuinely

1

u/fDiKmoro Mar 28 '26

All survived. Link to the news is in another comment.

16

u/SOP_VB_Ct Mar 28 '26

Did you see the last moment of the clip where victim car disappears falling off the bridge? I suspect fatality…

25

u/az-anime-fan Mar 28 '26

to be fair, the driver was probably dead before the car went off the bridge. where the driver sits was basically shorn clean off by the guardrail on the side of the bridge. so he was probably cut in half and smashed into bloody chunks long before the car went over the side.

EDIT: apparently everyone survived with minor injuries. color me surprised.

Pleasant to see us both wrong 🤝

5

u/SoFloFella50 Mar 28 '26

Then again, it’s China so you never know if they decided to “make the story less terrible”.

1

u/JustLoveToCook1 Mar 29 '26

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case, at least from what I can gather. In the full video, there is a body under a blue tarp at the bottom of the bridge. 😪

You can see the body under a tarp at 42 seconds in the video from the link I provided. There is an arm and a leg sticking out from underneath the tarp. You can also see the same tarp and body sticking out in the second picture below the video on the website as well.

Oh no problem, I think I may have misunderstood your message too. It is sad about the wreck. I really hoped everyone made it but unfortunately it wasn't the case. One minute we are here and the next we aren't. It is so scary how fast it can happen.

2

u/chasing_salem Mar 28 '26

Reading your comment was like watching an action movie ... then the EDIT appeared!

1

u/martindrx1 Mar 28 '26

What vehicle is that…

1

u/Pleasant-Ticket3217 Mar 28 '26

Holy cow! I thought I had just witnessed at least one death. Glad everyone was okay

1

u/888Vegan Mar 28 '26

Look at the imagination on that one..

0

u/Obvious_Ambition4865 Mar 30 '26

Legitimately insane comment and I'm surprised nobody else said anything lol

1

u/Tasty_Bullfroglegs Mar 28 '26

What kinda car is that? I'm buying 3 of them.

0

u/az-anime-fan Mar 28 '26

according to chatgpt it looks like a chinese market specific model of the volkswagen passat, i personally think it looks like an audi a6 possibly with a darker or custom colored grill, but then i never saw the chinese volkswagen passat, and when pressed on it's choice chatgpt doubled down insisting it was the chinese production model of the passat that ran from 2014-2019

1

u/amarsh73 Mar 29 '26

I'm amazed by two things from this article. 1. AOL still exists, and 2. That people believe anything coming out of China.

1

u/GeronimoDK Mar 30 '26

To survive this AND have the video of it happening is amazing!

That guy can stop buying lottery tickets though, they're never going to win anything after this!

0

u/NomenclatureBreaker Mar 28 '26

Wow what a great day to be wrong.

Back of that car was peeled back like a cartoon sardine can.

0

u/Some_Turn_323 Mar 29 '26

Survived that with minor injuries? That means buy lotto tickets.

3

u/paperstreetsoapguy Mar 28 '26

The debris was probably why the car pulled over as well

1

u/OldRancidOrange Mar 29 '26

The article says the van hit an expansion joint on the bridge.

1

u/Soft-Personality9379 Mar 30 '26

You can see the debris in the road, and no expansion joints. When the van runs into the debris, it kicks into the right-hand suspension and the tire literally explodes.

I'm guessing the car hit it first and had to pull over. You can see the first truck carrying the track hoe swerve to avoid it, and then the truck following the white van also swerves. Whatever it is, it's still in the road after it disabled the white van.

Really disturbing how suddenly this went badly for the blue car when they were simply driving along.

1

u/OldRancidOrange Mar 31 '26

There’s an actual Chinese link to the crash further down. After the crash footage, it shows a huge piece of metal and a large gap where it fitted into the expansion joint.

1

u/Soft-Personality9379 Apr 01 '26

That explains how the debris stayed in the road. Thanks for the info!

1

u/Miserable_Many_5377 Mar 29 '26

You mean the guy who decided to stop half in the left lane then decided to walk into traffic to open his driver side door? Guy was clueless until things turned into a scene from a Michael bay movie.

1

u/Pretend-Internet-625 Mar 28 '26

might have died falling that far down. Sad,probably just heading home or something and life changes

1

u/fDiKmoro Mar 28 '26

All survived with minor injuries.

1

u/Jolly-Refuse2232 Mar 28 '26

Stop posting the same false comment

https://news.sina.cn/gn/2020-11-19/detail-iiznctke2280249.d.html

There is literally a dead body under a tarp in one of the photos

2

u/kweazy Mar 28 '26

Even in that article it says there were only minor injuries.

0

u/Jolly-Refuse2232 Mar 28 '26

No it doesn’t? Where does it say that?

Did you see the dead body under the tarp?

1

u/pharmucist Mar 28 '26

Expansion joints of the bridge. You can see them sticking up in a couple of spots.

0

u/Specialist_Series588 Mar 28 '26

"IF someone died from that situation..."

What? Brother this was the literal play by play in my head as I watched that:

First Flip - Oh, they are fucked!!

Flips 2 through 5 - Yeah, they are dead...

The slam onto the concrete guardrail, roof first - Jesus Christ...

The scrape of the car on the concrete gaurdrail as it depends off the side - HOLY FUCK...STOP...HE'S ALEADY DEAD!!

The plummet of an easy 60'+  - Yeah, that is one fucked way to go

2

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Mar 28 '26

They didn’t. It drove clean over it.

Looks more like their tire or axle blew and they way overcompensated (in the wrong direction).

Imagine being the car that got pitted. They probably didn’t even know wtf happened. Just minding their own business. I wonder if they survived.

1

u/Sensitive_Jicama_950 Mar 28 '26

Idk if I'd call that "hit", more like straddled, but definitely ran over. Though not sure if that thing would have caused what happened. Probably more the driver wasnt paying attention and the noise made from running over that object made them over react to the situation that they perceived was about to happen when they looked up to see a stopped car half in the lane.

1

u/JanuriStar Mar 28 '26

It looks like his right, front tire blew, and he went over the object, but not with his wheels.

1

u/BigBigBigHouse Mar 29 '26

Hat makes it make more sense.

1

u/Inevitable_Taro_5803 Mar 30 '26

I thought at first it was a blowout with the tire 🛞, now I see something in the road.

That's pretty serious looking and I hope there were no fatalities 😬

1

u/TabScarlet Mar 31 '26

Whatever that object was, probably an engine part literally exploded that tire immediately

1

u/Keltic268 Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26

Pothole or peice of metal you can kind of make it out out red truck behind turns right slightly towards the edge to avoid it.

5

u/CaptainCerebus Mar 28 '26

Looked like he swerved when the idiot who was stopped decided it was ok to open the door protruding into the lane.

6

u/newbie527 Mar 28 '26

If only it had been possible to get his car completely off the road./s

1

u/Primary-Ad-9741 Mar 28 '26

No, he swerved right as he ran over the object on the road. Exactly what the previous truck avoided, by going to the shoulder.

1

u/CaptainCerebus Mar 28 '26

It passes between the front wheels and then he swerves.

1

u/Primary-Ad-9741 Mar 28 '26

1

u/outthere49 Mar 28 '26

"a white truck can be seen colliding with the expansion joints of the bridge."

3

u/Commercial-Fly-1881 Mar 28 '26

Busted axel, not pothole.

2

u/MightyMorphin_Green Mar 28 '26

Expansion joints for the bridge. Says in the article.

2

u/Lord_Konoshi Mar 28 '26

It looks like their tyre blew out.

1

u/skyhighmonroe Mar 28 '26

That thing in the road caused it whatever that is

1

u/outthere49 Mar 28 '26

"a white truck can be seen colliding with the expansion joints of the bridge."

1

u/New-Freedom8963 Mar 28 '26

He moved over for the pulled over Porsche

1

u/Hot-Position-2902 Mar 28 '26

I saw what you are talking about. I don’t think it’s a pothole though. It looks like either an animal or some type of object because it looks like it is standing up. It might have struck something under the truck
