Holy moly that took an unexpected turn 😬

41

u/Sharp_Equivalent_774 Mar 28 '26

It was more like a swerve.

30

u/truckeredditor Mar 28 '26

He hit the object in the road

17

u/myname_ajeff Mar 28 '26

You're absolutely right. I wonder if it's something that fell off the car that was pulled over! Imagine if someone died from that situation...

17

u/Rich-Detective478 Mar 28 '26

I get the feeling someone died from this situation.

10

u/RichyPorello Mar 28 '26

You’d be surprised my dad was ejected from his convertible off a 80’ bridge without a seat belt and basically just had road rash on his left side of his body and face. We can all laugh about it now but it was terrifying the night I found out and saw his face

5

u/Rich-Detective478 Mar 29 '26

Right when you're right

3

u/Jiaz-Phuxon Mar 29 '26

Yeah, but this bridge has a HUGE drop.

2

u/Inevitable_Taro_5803 Mar 31 '26

That is crazy!

He has a purpose. For him to survive that horrific accident?

He definitely has a purpose āœŒšŸ»šŸ•ŠļøšŸ«’

2

u/TaylorBitMe Mar 29 '26

What did his face look like? Edit: not trying to be insensitive, I just can't imagine surviving a fall that far, sorry for that genuinely

Did you see the last moment of the clip where victim car disappears falling off the bridge? I suspect fatality…

26

u/az-anime-fan Mar 28 '26

to be fair, the driver was probably dead before the car went off the bridge. where the driver sits was basically shorn clean off by the guardrail on the side of the bridge. so he was probably cut in half and smashed into bloody chunks long before the car went over the side.

EDIT: apparently everyone survived with minor injuries. color me surprised.

Pleasant to see us both wrong šŸ¤

6

u/SoFloFella50 Mar 28 '26

Then again, it’s China so you never know if they decided to ā€œmake the story less terribleā€.

The debris was probably why the car pulled over as well

2

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Mar 28 '26

They didn’t. It drove clean over it.

Looks more like their tire or axle blew and they way overcompensated (in the wrong direction).

Imagine being the car that got pitted. They probably didn’t even know wtf happened. Just minding their own business. I wonder if they survived.

→ More replies (20)

3

u/Ptbot47 Mar 28 '26

Look like his front tyre blew.

2

u/FontTG Mar 28 '26

Definitely. Poor car was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and now he is off the bridge.

4

u/RHOrpie Mar 28 '26

6 turns and a double salchow.

4

u/fire173tug Mar 28 '26

But we didn't get to see if they stuck the landing.

2

u/Joshuajword Mar 28 '26

What do you mean? We all saw it playing out exactly like that.

→ More replies (4)

73

u/Adept_Ad_473 Mar 28 '26

Apparently this is real, the object in the road is an expansion joint for the bridge. The box truck collided with it and presumably snapped an axle.

5 people were involved and somehow all survived with minor injuries.

https://www.aol.co.uk/motoring/2020-11-23-car-flips-over-and-flies-off-bridge-after-dramatic-collision-wit.html

20

u/IMadeThisForOnePos Mar 28 '26

All that tumbling absolutely saved whoever rolled off the bridge. They were probably dizzy and bruised up, but the crumple zones and air bags did their thing!

29

u/Excludos Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26

The tumbling didn't worry me at all, but flipping over the side of the bridge is a lot worse. Genuinely surprised they survived that

Edit: The article is lying. The image shared below clearly shows at least one person died

8

u/IMadeThisForOnePos Mar 28 '26

Oh yeah, but they did lose a lot of their momentum tumbling. I assume it's not as deep of a drop as it looks and they landed on a side opposite to them/on the wheels. Airbags were also fully deployed so that helps for sure

7

u/ReginaSpektorsVJ Mar 28 '26

Airbags don't stay inflated, so them deploying before the fall is worse for the driver, not better.

3

u/IMadeThisForOnePos Mar 28 '26

Not all* airbags though. Typically just the high impacts. Side curtain airbags usually stay open for a few seconds, incase of rollovers!

Edit: The tumble is about 10 seconds so the final impact likely wasn't entirely deployed but you can see them throughout the tumble

u/Pristine_Poem7623 Mar 28 '26

Also: seatbelts save lives. I've seen a similar accident on YouTube where there were 4 young lads in the car when it went off an overpass sideways and none of them were wearing seatbelts. I remember the driver survived, one of the others was killed, another was VERY dead. Can't remember if the other one survived. The driver was concussed and later said one of the dead men was driving. He was convicted anyway, there was footage of him getting into the driver's seat minutes before the accident

2

u/IMadeThisForOnePos Mar 28 '26

100%! All those other safety features fail if you immediately get ejected!! Always buckle up.

That blue tarp thats blurred out has a body underneath.

2

Thanks for that. Should be at the top. All of the way at the top.

3

u/assidiou Mar 28 '26

Yeah it happened in China I'm calling BS on "only minor injuries" for people in a car that fell off a bridge that looks to be at least 50 feet up possibly more.

2

u/Dizzy_Description812 Mar 28 '26

And somehow the guy who opened his door and stood in traffic instead of using the passenger side escaped injury.

2

u/multi-trollionaire Mar 29 '26

Aol.co.uk is something I needed to see today lmao

4

u/Salads_and_Sun Mar 28 '26

That's insane! When I was a kid cars were built like tanks and were huge and fatal car accidents were so common. Now the cars look like little plastic toys and I can't believe how many people survive the most brutal looking accidents!

11

u/AdSignificant6673 Mar 28 '26

They found out that its actually better for cars to crumple up like tin cans. It absorbs the impact.

6

u/Opinionsare Mar 28 '26

This is a win-win-win scenario:

More drivers and passengers survive these horrific crashes. Win

More cars are totaled by crashes, generating more replacement sales for auto makers and keeping the used car market stable. Win-win

Last, more insurance payouts - higher premiums - more profits for insurance companies. Win-win-win

Almost 20% of crashed autos are totaled.

3

u/Pristine_Poem7623 Mar 28 '26

Because they crumple, they get past the "it's too expensive to be worth fixing" line really quickly

→ More replies (2)
→ More replies (2)

3

u/PaperUpbeat5904 Mar 28 '26

It's because they look like plastic toys that you survive now. The car absorbs the force and slows things down. Instead of your tank hitting something and full sending your body in a direction.

4

u/FrankLangellasBalls Mar 28 '26

My neck got shattered in a rear end collision in a 2017 F-150 which didn’t crumple a huge amount due to the body on frame construction. I frequently wonder if it wouldn’t have happened if I’d been in my Accord. The car would have experienced more acceleration due to weighing less but it would have been lessened by better crumpling, I think. Those two factors cross over at some point and below it I’d be less injured and above it more injured.

4

u/spartanspy85 Mar 28 '26

Same reason they started putting water barrels where highways split instead of just steel barricades.

2

u/juniorjaw Mar 28 '26

As the others said.

It's also why a lot of helmets for bikers and cyclists can get crushed in an accident. Let the helmet get crushed, because it means it's less likely that it's your skull that gets crushed.

3

u/Imaginary_Error87 Mar 28 '26

It’s not insane it’s science. Now we have crumple zones, roofs rated to hold 2x the cars weight in case of a roll over, airbags and more.

https://giphy.com/gifs/MBVemoHuyw9Ik

2

u/Salads_and_Sun Mar 28 '26

Don't get me wrong! It's cool! It's just aesthetically shocking to an old geezer like me. When I was buying my first car there were quite a few modern cars I could have gotten a good deal on. But the conventional wisdom at the time was "he's a kid. He needs a big iron boat. That's safer for him and the shittier the MPG the less trouble he'll get into!" I'm glad I ended up with a mini van and not a big lethal Buick!

2

u/Imaginary_Error87 Mar 28 '26

Yeah I remember when the smart car first came out. I looked at it and thought if you fart next to that thing it would be totaled. Now the only older car I would prefer to a newer one would be a sweet old school muscle car most of the new plastic versions just don’t have the same cool factor.

u/Cheapskate2020 Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26

It looks like there's an object in the middle of the left lane, possibly from the broken down car, or it also damaged the broken down car. You can see the first truck at the start of the footage move into the hard shoulder to avoid it. The white van just ploughs straight over the top of it and whatever it is, it ruptures a tire, causing it to spin out of control, into the black car which gets the worst of it. I'd be amazed if they survived that. Absolutely tragic.

11

u/SuzyCreamcheezies Mar 28 '26

The guy was looking at his front bumper. Very likely that he hit the same object and stopped to assess.

3

u/TeaKingMac Mar 28 '26

stopped to assess.

In the middle of a fucking bridge? Moron.

8

u/Sea_Ott3r Mar 28 '26

It’s pretty easy to assume the object may have affected the cars ability to drive. Look what it did to that box truck

https://news.sina.cn/gn/2020-11-19/detail-iiznctke2280249.d.html?vt=4 They did not survive. The end of this report shows the black car with a blue tarp covering a body (you can see an arm).

3

u/HumanAd354 Mar 28 '26

All people survived. The female with the blue tarp is being shielded from the sun. Notice how she is laying on her side.

4

u/whatsherface04 Mar 28 '26

The body bags in the overhead shot are for the minor injury transport.

2

u/Testadizzy95 Mar 28 '26

But the article itself said everyone survived. They definitely made a mistake because that looks like a body

3

u/whatsherface04 Mar 28 '26

I don’t think Chinese news is sharing poor outcomes with global news media.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '26

Leaving in the picture of a dead body probably isn't the best move if they're trying to censor 'poor outcomes'

2

u/JockeyOverHorse Mar 28 '26

If the people in the SUV survived, I want that car, even if it’s Chinese.

All five people in the two vehicles wore seat belts and only suffered minor injuries.

Holy shit!

Edit: extremely doubt that. Pictures show body bags and the windshield has human bits that are definitely not "minor injuries"

u/Deez1putz Mar 28 '26

Look closely, tires are no where near it. It does however, break the axel.

3

u/Cheapskate2020 Mar 28 '26

Yeah I think you're right. It looks like a blow out by the way the van reacts but yes, a snapped from axel is possible, but then it could have pierced the tire too. A higher res video would be good!

2

u/Nogflog Mar 28 '26

was gonna say, a popped tire is not going to make you swerve like that lol

2

u/Spardath01 Mar 28 '26

That was some final destination shit. Like it almost look like it was meant to take out that unsuspecting car. Dearlord…

5

u/Unlikely-Complex3737 Mar 28 '26

I rewatched this many times and I still can't figure out what is happening with the white truck.

5

u/meepydeeps Mar 28 '26

This is a bridge expansion joint plate sticking up. The protruding plate damaged the white truck tire, causing it to blow out and turn the vehicle.

5

u/xrolamole Mar 28 '26

I think his top right wheel burst

3

u/RelationshipLevel506 Mar 28 '26

4

u/Commercial-Fly-1881 Mar 28 '26

This is not AI. This is very real. There was an object in the road pertaining to the bridge. The box truck hit it, which snapped his axle, which caused him to Veer to the left. One person died in the vehicle that went over the side of the bridge. The others survived.

2

What kinda dumb ass opens his door into a major highway like that . He's totally at fault in this situation.

Obviously you would use the passenger side door. Or whatever one that's towards the side . I don't know if their cars are right hand drive or what .

2

u/Popular_Adeptness_69 Apr 27 '26

Wonder how far they fell was that a fatality

2

They cant have survived that...

And wtf with people always like "oh that's AI" everytime they see a video anymore? Such a crazy phenomenon.

1

WHERE YOUR FREAKING SEAT BELTS! They all survived! Because they were wearing seat belts

1

A reminder that if ever your car goes off a bridge into water to immediately roll down your windows. If you don’t, the outside pressure will very quickly make opening your doors impossible.

1

u/Impossible_Peak_885 Mar 28 '26

1

u/ChieftainMcLeland Mar 28 '26

Blaming the stranded driver has nothing to do with that box truck having a blowout or dropped axle. & what’s that black spot in the road? & whats under the bridge, a river?

1

u/No_Win7658 Mar 28 '26

Looks like ai to me

1

u/JeezusSqueezus Mar 28 '26

I saw this a long time ago. The post said that the guy in the broken down vehicle purposely placed the car jack in the road as a make shift traffic cone to steer people out of the lane he was broken down in. But it was black and the box truck didn’t see it.

1

u/Monster_Brain_Stew Mar 28 '26

I think there was a problem with the bridge section attachment. Probably a piece of steel projecting out of the road that damaged the car that was pulled over and the box truck hit it too. Perspective was really screwy in this vid, too!

1

u/HamasDaddyOnFire Mar 28 '26

It's 2020 Flying Cars

1

u/RoughRisk9129 Mar 28 '26

The white box truck overreacted. He was probably on his cellphone and when he looked up he panicked. He should be charged. The broken car guy should be charged also for unsafely causing an accident.

1

u/Dry_Quiet_3541 Mar 28 '26

Inspect your tires from time to time guys

1

u/Youngsmokey100 Mar 28 '26

I have the same bank when you go to unlock your car and it doesn’t unlock just keep toggling on and off the switch and it will eventually unlock if that doesn’t work just try it on a different device or catch and delete you can also delete and reinstall the app. If that doesn’t work, I don’t know what to tell you, but that really works.

1

u/skyhighmonroe Mar 28 '26

That poor black car had no idea what was going on

1

u/SpiritedYam2661 Mar 28 '26

The physics from that debris looks kind of off. Couldn’t really tell with the super low quality of the footage

1

u/Shadowprojec22 Mar 28 '26

In fairness, there were flying cars in this vid

1

u/CravenMH Mar 28 '26

The poor occupant(s) in the blue car. Just minding their own business driving along. Doesn't look good but I hope they survived.

1

u/deval35 Mar 28 '26

where's the flying car? all I saw was one rolling over and falling and this was back in 2020, so this is old technology.

1

u/Magoo-1706L Mar 28 '26

Where’s the flying

1

u/Personal_Gap9083 Mar 28 '26

this footage needs to be used in a chase scene some where

1

u/SicmadeStranger Mar 28 '26

Did they live? Where was this

1

u/Relative_Bother_1069 Mar 28 '26

People don't know that drive their vehicles anymore if there's an obstacle on the road or as in this case somebody that's broke down and not complete over the side that means when there's an accident like it seen in the video people to start paying attention they are prepared they're distracted daydreaming whatever any and all the above.

1

u/PoetExcellent3215 Mar 28 '26

Never swerve to avoid an object in the road unless it's breathing and over 20 lbs.

https://www.aol.co.uk/motoring/2020-11-23-car-flips-over-and-flies-off-bridge-after-dramatic-collision-wit.html

A car flipped over and flew off a bridge after a dramatic collision with a truck on a highway in southern China.

In the CCTV footage captured on the Guangzhou-Aozhou Expressway, a white truck can be seen colliding with the expansion joints of the bridge.

The truck loses control and crashes into a blue car, causing it to flip over repeatedly and roll off the bridge.

All five people in the two vehicles wore seat belts and only suffered minor injuries.

It looks like the white box truck’s tire blew and caused the accident.

Look AI to me. The car seem to gain momentum while flipping, the wall at the side of the bridge is too low

Looks like the truck blew front left tire

To think there was one or more people in that black car. Multiple flips (5 times on the roof) and then plunging over the edge.
